Great place if you want Americana
The staff of the hotel were very welcoming and accomodating - couldnt ask for anything more. Restaurant was good and the breakfast was great. I like the onsite pub and occasional singer. The football (soccer) game on the tv was often too loud and heard while in the restaurant. The hallway seemed to have a hospital smell from the cleaners but it was not that bad. I like the fact the hotel is on a large acre lot (2-3 acres I think) of green pastures and horses nearby, very scenic. On the other side was a brand new shopping strip which very much reminded me of typical american city, and the hotel itself if very much modeled after american style vs the local culture. The walk to town was about 20 minutes but would be shorter if the hotel created a pass through in the surrounding fence (had to walk quite a ways around the lot to get to the street heading to town). It would be great if the hotel offered a shuttle into town because taxi fares add up at 10 euros a trip. I would stay there again.

Expected a bit more
There are not alot of choices for places to stay in this area. The Days was fine. Fairly new, pretty clean, decent food, etc. The beds were the smallest we saw on our trip. The "doubles" were more like a full size rather than a queen. The level of service was not impressive. They didnt have porters for your bags, but the rate was fairly inexpensive so for a one night stopover it was fine. Next time Id look to stay in another village for more options.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The tour of Kilkenny Castle is worthwhile. The tour guides are enjoyable & thorough. The restoration is very well done also. Tours can be full, so you may want to get tickets earlier the same day.

Fantastic!
This room was wonderful. Every anemity you could ask for. Very comfortable bed, iron and board, safe, insuite coffee, tea and hot chocolate! And a bathtub meant for bubbles!! The food in the hotel is also very nice and the service was 5 stars all the way. With one exception, they did not have the items at the front desk as advertised (forgotten travel anemities, like toothbrush etc.) so dont forget the essentials. Would stay again? YES
