Beautiful jungle hotel
We had a deluxe room on the second floor and were so pleased by the whole experience. The room was lovely, with a terrific view of the ocean. The grounds and the pool were fabulous and there were monkeys all around us, right in the trees. The food was good and not too expensive, plus the included breakfasts were very tasty. The management was so friendly and accomodating, giving the hotel a really cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Overall, we were SO pleased by the whole experience. Also, the towel animals in the bathroom on the first day were adorable!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Although you can pay for Manuel Antonio National Park, there is a public beach that is nicer, less crowded, and has beach chairs and cabanas to rent. It was worth it to go to the park for one afternoon, but we spent most of the time at the free public beach and it was fantastic. Also, the restaurants across the street from the beach are cheap and tasty.

It was a good choice, It was clean and comfortable. Everything around is very nice.

Hotel Byblos - not the best option
Our group of four was trying to save some bucks during our stay in Manuel Antonio and were looking for a good rate. Byblos had a decent rate (for the area), but did not have the value we’d seen at other locations in Costa Rica. The standard room was drab, damp, and had some of the ugliest artwork. The grounds themselves were fairly nice, and the pool and restaurant were decent. We saw monkeys from the lobby area and pool, but we just couldn’t get over the feeling we would have enjoyed our stay more somewhere else. Gated parking was a nice touch, but again you can get a better value elsewhere.
Renting a car was a great option for our group of four. However, know the insurance requirements as they are fairly expensive and the service people will try to get you to pay for all of them, where most of the time you don’t need them all.
