Business Hotel

The Moevenpick had a good price point for New Year’s Eve (2009-2010), but a couple of things were disappointing. Nobody helped with luggage, the front desk was hit or miss in terms of niceness and the shuttle is not as available as the hotel makes it seem. You must reserve the shuttle to take it to the station and if you expect to see it at the station, that is unlikely unless you make a reservation. However, the hotel is only a 10 minute walk away from central station and tram 25 stops about a 2 minute walk from the hotel. I’d say it’s a great hotel if you don’t need a lot of handholding. We did have a great experience with Remko who we emailed prior to arrival for ideas on what to do for New Y ear’s and was ridiculously helpful. He researched every club, restaurant, bar etc. and responded within 24 hours. He went above and beyond.

Just Overnight

I traveled by train from Dusseldorf to Amsterdam and stayed one night at the Moevenpick prior to flying out of Schipol. Moevenpick was an excellent hotel a short walk from Amsterdam’s Central train station. Very convenient for walking tours of central Amsterdam. Service, food and accommodations were excellent. I will definitely stay at the Moevenpick the next time I’m in Amsterdam.

Best hotel I’d ever been in Europe

Absolutely impressed by this hotel. Facilities, services and staff were just great. For sure I’ll be there for my next trip to Amsterdam and other cities where this chain has presence.

Clean, modern, good service

It’s a very new, modern hotel and not too far (1km?) outside the Centrum. The rooms are small, as you’d expect, but the beds were quite uncomfortable... very thin mattresses and bedding was very very basic. Interested in making the bed a bit more comfortable, I called downstairs to ask about the "A La Carte" pillow and blanket menu that is mentioned in the Hotel Service Guide, but was told that those extras "were not available in my room". Best they could do was an extra duvet. Odd. We had a great view of the harbor from our tower room. Anyway, the service was polite and (mostly) accommodating but if you’re fussy about your bed you might want to look elsewhere. (On that note - we also stayed about a week at the Renaissance Amsterdam - better location, equally good service, and much more comfortable beds.)

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Get a 48 or 72 hour tram pass from the office at Centraal Station. It’ll save you enough for a lunch or two.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED!

This is a fabulous hotel for the money! The amenities are exquisite, the staff is professional, and the location is very nice. It is a few minutes to walk to the city center (although the tram stops right next to the hotel), but the views from the upper rooms are well worth the steps. This is also a perfect place to get a little serenity from the atmosphere of Amsterdam’s city center. We were so very pleased, and we will look for Moevenpick when planning our next European vacation!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get a room on an upper floor to appreciate the fantastic views. Then, take advantage of the hotel’s spa. The saunas are wonderful, and a massage is a great escape.

Nice modern hotel

Very nice hotel, friendly staff. Large modern comfortable rooms. A little out of the way, but have a shuttle service to train station.

Would definitely recommend the hotel

The hotel is right next to the passenger terminal, so if you are going on a cruise it is a great location. We chose it because we were going on a cruise. The bellhop actually rolled our luggage to the passenger terminal!!! While it is a bit out of the way, not right in the center of town, there is a tram right outside that will take you there and runs every 20 minutes. The hotel also has a free shuttle to central station (which is about a 15 minute walk). We never made use of the shuttle. The slight inconvenience of the location was worth it based on the pricefor this clean and comfortable hotel. They have a really nice spa downstairs for hotel guests. I would stay there again.

The only drawback for this hotel is that it is not in the heart of town. If you are a traveler with somewhat of a budget, and don’t mind walking a bit it is worth staying here. The staff was very friendly and nice. The rooms and hotel were unbelievably clean. Overall, we were really happy with the choice.

Would definately go back

Hotel was billed as a bit out of the center but it was only a 10 minute walk to the center of town, or you can take a tram just in front of the hotel. Rooms were clean, comfy and very modern and super quiet. Staff extremely courteous; small but adequate fitness center. Restaurant was high priced so we bought coffee at the bar and ate in town. Great for a family wth one kid, the sleep sofa was very comfy for our daughter.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Go to the FOAM, a photography museum, had some really great pieces, small and very well designed, good cafe too! Buy your tickets for Anne Frank and Van Gogh beforehand to avoid long lines.

Great hotel

We found this hotel exceeded expectations given the price and general quality of hotels in European cities. The view of the harbor was really great, and the rates were very reasonable. The distance to central station and restaurants was a bit of a bother, but easy enough to get around (we generally walked to central station and took only 15-20 minutes). We somehow got free breakfast buffet added to our reservation, which was really nice. The breakfast was quite good, and a huge convenience and savings. We ate dinner at the restaurant one night - it was good for "hotel food", but there are definitely both cheaper and better dining options in the city center. The staff at the restaurants and front desk were very friendly and helpful - all in all it was a really enjoyable stay and I would recommend to anyone.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

We found in late July that it was very crowded with tourists. There were lines at all the museums, but we found they moved reasonably fast. If possible, try early morning. We recommend pancake houses and Indonesian food - both were really great and seem to be local specialties.

Excellent Hotel

My wife and I currently live in Brussels and always stay at the Movenpick when visiting the beautiful city of Amsterdam. The customer service is great, the views from any of the rooms are wonderful, the breakfast is definitely worth checking out (do try and wake up for the buffet versus the in room order), and is conveniently located to Amsterdam’s Central Station for train travellers and for public transportation, about a 5min walk along the water. Overall great hotel, would recommend it to everyone. We will continue to stay there as long as we are still in Europe.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Also conveniently located to the famous Red Light District, 10min walk.

Classy and Well Priced

I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. My room had a beautiful view of the harbor. It was a bit of a walk to downtown, but there was a tram across the street. I liked walking though, so it was perfect for me! It was close enough to the night life so I could go party, but far enough away so I can relax and sleep. Perfect place to stay in Amsterdam.

Perfect for anyone joining a cruise.

If you are joining a cruise in Amsterdam, the Mövenpick is hands down the best place to stay. The Passenger Terminal is almost next door, and ships moor at the dock immediately behind the hotel. We awoke the morning of our departure with our ship literally outside our window. We took the train from Schiphol Airport to Centraal Station, because the Mövenpick has a free shuttle bus to and from the station. Once at the station, however, we could actually see the hotel, so we walked. The walk took us about 15 minutes, but a taxi or the hotel shuttle would be less exhausting if you have heavy luggage. The hotel is contemporary and spacious and the hotel staff were courteous and helpful. We booked an "executive" room, which includes free wireless Internet, their excellent buffet breakfast, and use of the Executive Center, with desktop computers, free coffee, tea and snacks. A bonus for us was the mini business center in the lobby, with two desktop computers and a printer, where anyone can access the Internet and check e-mail. Our room was uncluttered, very light and airy, and furnished in an attractive, modern style. Good use was made of the space available, although the room was not huge. The only disappointment was the coffee maker, a sort of mini espresso machine, which delivers espresso sized amounts of coffee; however, they also provide a kettle.

Traveler's tip

The #25 tram terminates just past the hotel, beyond the Passenger Terminal. One stop takes you to Centraal Station, two to Dam Square. Trams leave every 10 to 15 minutes. Amsterdam’s trams are clean and efficient, and fun to ride!

A clean, comfortable, quiet hotel

We loved staying in a hotel so close to the train station, trams and canal rides, making it easy to visit all the places we wanted to. On top of that it was quiet, even though there were giant celebrations going on all over town that night. After a 10 and 1/2 hour plane ride, being able to sleep well is important.

EXCELLENT HOTEL

I loved this hotel. Unlike most European hotels, our room was very spacious. It is a little removed from the central areas, but it was a 10 minute walk to the centraal station and from there, you can catch trams to anywhere. Of course, you can catch a tram from near the hotel to the station too but we found it unnecessary. The also hotel provided complimentary shuttle service to the centraal station. The hotel came equipped with a little refrigerator so we were able to stock our breakfast for the next morning with pastries from Albert Heijn which was not too far from the hotel. Otherwise the restaurant hotel breakfast buffet was around 23 Euros. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely stay there again.

Style and Elegance

This was our first trip to Amsterdam and just happened upon the Movenpick as a choice of where to stay. I would definitely stay there again. It is a destination hotel. Set off on its own next to the main Port Terminal for cruise ships. But even with its isolation it is still nice since the Tram system has a stop right in front of the hotel and the Canal Bus also stops there. Pro: Ultra modern design Excellent staff Free shuttles to Central Station Comfortable Saunas Spacious bathrooms Con: Distance from anything else to do

Modern and comfortable hotel

Located very close to the central railway station and city centre, Movenpick is a clean, modern hotel with friendly staff. Hotel also has ample car parking facility at the basement, though the 24hr parking charge of Euro 35 is definitley on the higher side. Overall, I would opt for this hotel again if I return to Amsterdam.

Fantastic Views

My wife and I really enjoyed this hotel. It is very modern and has all of the amenities you would expect from a high end hotel. It even has a free business center which was unexpected. It is right next to the metro and 5 minuts from Gare Centraal. You can be anywhere in the city in 20 minutes.

Very impressedm modern and clean

I would highly recommend this hotel. It is very modern and close enough to central station. The rooms were very large with a great view of the river. Tram 26 is very convenient to central station. The lobby is beautiful and the people are very acommodating. I would recommend buying the Amsterdam card for two days, that’s enough time to see all the museums and attractions, the buy the striptickets for the rest of your stay.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

You must see the Van Gogh and Ryjtsmusuem and the Heineken Brewery tour. Use the Amsterdam card to get around for the two days. Everything is pretty close and take the free Holland Canal Cruise. We walked a lot and bumped into many attractions along the way.

Fabulous Hotel - Clean, Quiet, Modern, Great Location

The Movenpick is a lovely hotel located on the water. It is in a great location, not too far away from central Amsterdam but far enough away for a quiet stay. The hotel is extremely clean and spacious. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. I will stay here again when I travel to Amsterdam.

Reception is terrible!

When we were checking out, we were hit with an almost 30 Euro city tax. This tax wasn’t covered, apparently, in the package we purchaced on Expedia nor was it mentioned when we checked into the hotel. We checked out early in the morning in order to catch an early train to the airport and were basically threatened into paying the tax less we miss our train. We were bullied. It’s a nice looking hotel and the maids work very hard, but the overall customer service is terrible. Beware!

Traveler's tip

There isn’t a shuttle from the hotel to the airport. So, you will need to make sure that you have a way to get back to the airport.

Lousy deposit policy

On arrival the clerk told me that I had to leave a deposit of 50 dollars for each day that I stayed. In my case that would be 350 dollars to be blocked on my credit card credit. I protested this policy and in the end she went along with a 50 dollar deposit for the whole week. Overall the hotel is good and clean. There is a shuttle bus to the central station every half hour.

Would Certainly Come Again

Our room was spacious with a comfortable sitting area. The view of the canal was lovely. The staff was accommodating and breakfasts were delicious. We would certainly be pleased to return to this hotel when we visit Holland next time.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

We found that once we began using the Trams, we were able to get to most places of interest without any frustrations.

moevenpick is a quality hotel

recieved extremely good price for 5-night stay and it surpassed my hopes!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If other hotels nearer city centre are pricey shoot for the moevenpick. it is not more than a mile or two, and it is on the shipping lane so you see the ships going by constantly! One of the best deals I’ve recieved in europe!
