modern hotel at great location

I liked: - the modern decor (stunnung bathroom) and the clean rooms - the great location just next to the Royal Palace and very close to shopping streets and restaurants - the large breakfast buffet - the free wi-fi in the room - the friendly and helpful staff Disliked: Nothing, really. Wasn’t the cheapest place I ever stayed in, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Great Hotel, Great Location

If you are going to Madrid, I totally recommend staying in this hotel. It is centrally located (right near the Opera metro stop), very cool decor and priced perfectly.

Great Place to Stay Next to EVERYTHING

Room Mate Mario is a great place centrally located to a lot of main attractions through out Madrid so you did not need to take a taxi. Plus the metro and subway station is very close by and within walking distance from the hotel. The staff was extremely helpful in assisting us with all of our needs despite our poor Spanish! Would definitely stay there again.

Lovely stay at Room Mate Mario

Wonderful hotel. Quaint and welcoming. It is near the Royal Opera House and not far from the Royal Palace and gardens. The staff is very attentive and willing to give advice. They made us feel at home. Rooms were comfortable, well-appointed, and clean. Breakfast buffet was superb and ample. There was a metro stop down the street, and the hotel is within walking distance of several other stations. We definitely will return for another romantic weekend.

Traveler's tip on dining

Check out the restaurants near the Opera House. It’s a short walk from the hotel. Look for Calles Espejo and Amnistía and explore the area. Genoveva del Barri on Espejo was quaint and delighful. We also liked the Café del Libro on Vergara where you can relax after a long day and sip tea and read books. It is a very low key area with very little bling, and lots of potential for enjoying the real Madrid.

Lovely hotel

Upon arrival we had a bit of trouble finding the hotel but I managed to get the phone number and after calling received direction from the metro Opera. A friendly voice and a warm welcome upon arrival. The stay was magic they even booked us a reservation at the for dinner. The breakfast was fab and kept us going until we indulged in a late lunch. Would definitely recommend to a friend and would go back...

good location and price

My 22 year old daughter and i stayed here for two nights. Great location, helpful staff, great breakfast. The rooms are ultra modern, but very nice. A bit noisy and a funky smell in the lobby, but we’d recommend a stay here. Price was very reasonable.

perfect

I actually booked this hotel for my parents to stay in while they visited me in Madrid for 1 week. I’ve lived in Madrid for 5 years so I can say from experience that the location (Opera) is absolutely perfect! It’s right smack downtown, but the neighborhood is fairly quiet, safe, and clean (as compared to areas like Sol or Gran Via which can get sketchy at night). The Palace is 5 minutes away and most other popular sites are within walking distance. There’s a metro stop 2 minutes away. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and I believe most speak English. The hotel decor is very boutique (loud colors, loungy feel), but it’s clean and comfortable. My parents raved about the breakfast buffet (a rarity in Europe!). There’s a computer in the lobby for free internet access.

Traveler's tip

Ask for an exterior room because you get a nice little balcony that looks onto the street. Otherwise, you will be staring at a cement wall if you get an interior.

Great find!

This hotel was a great find! Fresh, contemporary decor, wonderfully helpfull and friendly staff made this one of our best stays in Spain. Free internet accessable pc in the lobby a big plus. Only negative was the thin walls and doors make for hearing your neighbors pretty easy.

Great Location

Hotel has nice atmosphere, very stylish designs, and very comfortable. The location is great, a couple of blocks from the Royal Palace and 20 minute walk to the Prado Museum. The hotel staff was extremely helpful, friendly and spoke fluent English. I have stayed in many hotels in Europe and this ranks in my top 5.

Great Location and Free Breakfast Bar

We stayed in Europe for 2 weeks all over 1st off no one puts icecubes in anything and I think unless you stay at the Ritz all the beds in europe are just the box spring with a sheet over them.Other than that this hotel was very friendly and in a great location you could walk everywhere there was fast food cafes bakeries and shopping about 5 mins away I traveled with my mother 53 wife 28 niece 10 and me 34 and never felt unsafe. the whole street and all the buildings were lit up like day time all night but don’t worry that don’t affect your rooms every thing was just so beautiful

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

take the metro after you are tired of walking it has a stop about 1 min walk to the hotel. They only cost 1.5 euros and go everywhere and are not hard to figure out.Taxis are so expensive are whole 2 week trip we probably spent 300 euros on them when if I would have been with guys on this trip we would have took metros to and from the airports and saved 290 euros.taxis charge 10 euros extra for luggage All Im saying is when planning your trip consider all the little expenses.

Excellent hotel.

Would defintely stay again. Friendly staff and a wonderful breakfast included which saved money. Conventient to the metro and the Palace, restaurants, shopping, etc. Would highly recommend Hotel Mario.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

All day trip to Valley of the Fallen and Toledo was wonderful and worth the cost. Would not do the Madrid Vision in daytime as it is just as easy to use Metro. Be careful on Metro - had euros and credit card stolen - use fanny pack and keep hand over it at all times.

would definitely go back

Would go back to Mario. Great location.Subway 1 block away.Nice Rooms with granite bathroom.More than adequate breakfast.I wish there was pay per view!! only about 6 channels on TV...only CNN and MTV in english. The only problem I had was that the hotel has central temperature control. There is a thermostat in each room, but it is preset. It was unusually warm in Madrid, but the A/C wasn’t turned on. They told me to open the windows..but no screens, so I didn’t keep them open all night. Overall it was a great choice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

subway 1 block...shopping and restaurants 1 block..perfect location

The perfect hotel

Ideal position, super room, amazing breakfast. So close to Opera Metro Station but we spent 30 minutes looking for it - if only we had known it was behind the Burger King!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Allow a whole day for the Prado - one of the finest art galleries in the world.

privacy

The toilet room only has a partial glass door, so don’t go with another person if you are a super private bathroom person.

room mate mario

This was a quite a nice little hotel and a good value for the money, sleek and comfortable without the price tag usually associated with boutique hotels. Everything you need without being too too. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We had a junior suite which was worth the few extra dollars, the room being quite large. The breakfast was terrific and served until noon for those who like a leisurely vacation. The location is good. You can walk to the museums, and it is just off the Opera Plaza where there is a taxi stand, metro and bus stops.

Traveler's tip on dining

The staff was very helpful in recommending restaurants and tapas bars that are not on the tourist trail.

Fun place to stay in Madrid

Room Mate Mario is a great hotel for a younger crowd. Many chic and new restaurants are located on the same street. It’s within walking distance of both the Plaza Mayor and Puerto del Sol. It’s also close to multiple metro lines. Would definitely stay there again.

Very Pleased

The Hotel couldn’t have had a better location. Right near Puerta del Sol, and 2 minutes from the metro Opera. My room had a full size, private bathroom (204) and balcony facing the street which wasn’t noisy at all. Breakfast was fantastic and served til 12.00, that’s unheard of! Staff was super friendly and even offered to let me check in early. I am extremely pleased with this hotel and would absolutely go back. I’m not sure about the 1st floor rooms, but it seemed like the 2nd floor rooms are the way to go.
