Nice Hotel - Not Sure If I’d Return

Spent a couple of days and evenings at the Hilton for my wife’s 50th birthday. The property is a little worn and a little dated. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly all except maybe the bellman and the initial greeting we received upon driving up to the front entrance. The proximity to the beach was nice although since the hotel sits off a bit from the beach the ocean view from the room was limited even after booking a upgrade room. Not the ideal hotel for a romantic getaway. Restaurant was a little pricey but the food was good. Probably a nice property to stay if you were visiting to spend some time golfing as that seems to be the major attraction to the area. The grounds were clean but once again could use a little updating beyond just a coat of fresh paint on everything.

Beach was clean and nice even for October. Although when we did ventured off the hotel property you had the feeling that the residents and seasonal visitors really didn’t care for tourist. Rude service at a couple of establishments and points of interest along with a surprising amount of inconsiderate drivers from the moment we hit the island. Maybe it just was a bad time of year :)

Not impressed.

This is a hotel for those who have no objection in paying for all you´ll have. Of course the rooms are spacious and very well decorated (but the mattresses are not the most comfy as they are not so firm) and the hotel is a bit sophisticated. But I had no warm welcome when I asked for a shuttle to collect my baggage from another hotel and was said it was out of the service area, although the following days I could see the same shuttle taking people everywhere much more distant anyway. I requested an early check-in and was also denied. The wireless connection in the room is paid and not having the best impression at the reception I started guessing anything else should be paid as well (I didn´t mean to check). Anyway, I mean sometimes you feel better in a 2 or 3 star hotel where you´re welcomed with a big smile and they try to please you solving little discomforts it can happen when you´re a traveler out of home. I can´t say I don´t recommend the hotel. But I had better stays elsewhere, considering luxury is superfluous when you don´t feel cosy.

Great Offseason Destination

Got a great oceanfront room for a great price. The view was beautiful and very romantic and we made great use of the bicycles as well as the beach. The room was impecable and we look forward to our next visit. The only down side was that we ate outside one evening and the beautiful trees pelted us with nuts falling! No complaints, we just moved inside.

The suite was extremely nice oceanfront. The hotel was really nice and the atmoshere was tropically and 4 starr. dogs allowed thats really a good ideal as well. Resturant had very good food. the resturant service was not so good. Hostess was no where in sight.

Our experience at this hotel was a bit mixed. Overall, we enjoyed the stay - but, we were a bit underwhelmed by several different things: - We paid extra for an Ocean View - but, when we checked in they put us in a room overlooking the parking lot with a limited view of the ocean. When I expressed my displeasure they quickly relocated us to a room with a much better view. - The family pool was relatively small and being a family oriented hotel the pool was packed every single day - lot’s of screaming kids(Except the day we arrived - because it was closed) - The rooms were nice - but, not incredibly fancy - There was no service at the pool or the beach - if you wanted something to eat or drink you had to go to the Buoy bar. - The staff was OK - but, not super friendly On the posistives: - The hotel is conveniently located to everything that you would want to do on the island - beach, restaurants, golf, outdoor activities, etc. - The grounds are pleasant and well maintained - The remodeled restaurant, bar and market are very nice. As a whole, we enjoyed our stay - if you are a family looking for a relaxing, fairly nice place to stay in Hilton Head I would recommend this spot. If you are looking for a first-class hotel with lots of amenities - this is not the place.

Very Nice Resort

Our room was very nice, my family had a good time at the pool and in the ocean.... Next time we will go when the temp, is below 100....At least our room was a comfortable 69 degrees...

Not happy

I cannot believe this is a "four star" hotel. I would call it a 3 star at best. Parking is expensive and hard to find. No free wi-fi, I mean step into the new decade. The beds are terrible, so soft and bounsy, no back support. The elevator lights were burned out so you did not know what floor you were at. We also called one elevator the "smellevator". It smelled horrible inside. We have learned one thing from our trip. We are a Westin family. Hilton has really let itself go. (best food, Catch 22 or black marlin)

Decent place to stay

The Hilton is a decent place to stay. The rooms are huge (most seem to have pull out sofa beds in addition to a king or two double beds) complete with a small kitchenette area. The kitchenette has a toaster, microwave, refigerator, plates, and silverware, which is nice. You can definitely stop by the Piggly Wiggly supermarket (free shuttle from the hotel) to pick up some bagels, fruit, etc to save some money by eating in for some meals. Amenities are nice, but many you have to pay extra for (renting beach chairs, umbrella, etc). Overall, I was happy with the experience, mostly because I managed to get a great rate from expedia (half of the "full" price). I would not have stayed here if I had to pay the "full" price.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you are going to rent bikes, don’t rent from the hotel (they completely rip you off). Walk to the Palmetto Dunes Outfitters (only 1/2 mile away or so) and rent bikes at the 3 day rate (or longer). Renting for 3 days is not much more than renting a bike for one day.

Nickel and dimed!

The hotel was nice but could use a little face-lift. The beach is awesome. The problem with this resort is that there are charges for EVERYTHING. $10/day to park (and had to cirle the lot over and over to find an available spot). $10/day for wi-fi. A 1 min 43 sec phone call to Bluffton (a local call) was over $5.00. I’m not a cheap person, but I’d rather this be included in the room rate so that I don’t feel stabbed in the back when I check out! Also, the family pool is way undersized. My kids kept getting hit in the head by random balls and pool toys. Stay somewhere else!

The Crazy Crab in Sea Pines was my favorite place to eat. Don’t miss the fireworks in Shelter Cove on Tuesday nights.

One of Hilton Head’s Best

We thought this hotel was superb. It was the best place ever to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary.

We love this hotel.

This is our second time staying at the Hilton Oceanfront. We had upgraded our room to ocean view, but when we checked in, we had a view of the parking lot. We called down to the front desk and they immediately sent up a bell hop to take us to a different room which had a full ocean front view. Rooms are very clean, the staff are extremely friendly and the beach is fantastic. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Have dinner at Eat, a new restaurant owned by Robert Irvine from the Food Network. He is extremely friendly and the food was wonderful.

A true family vacation!!!

This is our second stay at this hotel. This time we came with the family and they had a wonderful time. If you are unable to get a room with a beach view, I would recommend getting a room on the first floor which will allow you quick access to the beach and other areas. They also make it a point to have more than enough amenities (gifts, deli store, restaurants, baby sitting and entertainment) for you on site for all your needs.

Traveler's tip

Stay away from the timeshare shares outside of the restaurants. The free trips they promise will also require a sit down with another timeshare company.

Not Satisfied

My wife and I were not satisfied with our stay at all. They added charges for every little thing that was not mentioned when we booked. They charged us each day to park our own car, for internet, and other random stuff that other resorts include. We will not stay there again.

Great Getaway!

Great location with nice pool, grounds, and beach. Service very good. Restaurants nice, but could use another choice for variety. Would stay again.

It was okay.

Rather worn, but not too bad. Nice to have microwave and kitchenware in room. Two small pools - one just for adults which was nice. Bar closes early. Very, very nice beach.

We had a suite with a great balcony overlooking the ocean. Very pleased with the room and it’s amenities. A little agitated that we had to pay for parking.

Wonderful Hotel!

I enjoyed every minute of my stay. My room was spacious and very clean, hotel staff was very pleasant, the grounds were gorgeous and well-maintained and the beach a wonderful treat - the property had everything I needed on site, no need to leave! Would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone...

Palmetto Dunes Hilton on Hilton Head

Was actually more like a suite. Very large with everything needed. Great views and location right on beach. Will return there.

Very Happy with Location and Accommodations!

This was a wonderful hotel with a variety of activities and services. We have stayed in Hilton Head in the past, but this was by far the best accommodations we’ve stayed in so far. As older adults, we found the accommodations very peaceful and relaxing. The hotel provided options that would suit everyone’s needs; such as an Adult pool and a family pool.

Enjoyable accomadations

My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at the Hilton Oceanfront Resort and were quite satisfied. The staff was courteous and friendly. They handled our modest requests easily. Our room was clean and quite spacious. We really enjoyed the location of the hotel. It was well situated for walking on the beach or biking around the resort. It was also convenient to the golf courses on the resort.

Not impressed

The hotel only had one restuarant and it was a bit on the high end side which is fine for one night but there is not another place within walking distance so if staying for multiple days and planning to not have a car this is not the place to stay as the variety is not great enough to warrent eating in the same place over and over. The rooms all have kitchens, if you are more of a shop and eat in type of family otherwise you need to take a short drive to find a good family friendly restuarant. The hotel is right on the beach which was great for the view and the sand but everything else was at least a mile away.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This was a good location to use as a base for visting/exploring both Savannah and Charleston if you have a car to travel with. Lots of great seafood choices in both Savannah and Charleston. Recommend the Swamp Fox in Charleston for the she-crab soup and shrimp poorboy and both the Salty Dog and Truffles in multiple locations.

Can’t wait to return in warmer weather!

Hotel grounds were lovely - felt like a real resort. Suite had a fabulous view of pools and the ocean. Front desk personnel were very helpful - gave us a great recommendation for dinner with our teenagers (’Frankie Bones’ had something for all of us, including Sam ores made right at our table). Hope to go back when we can take full advantage of the activities (too cold to swim in this weekend in late December, though the pool was heated).
