Not As Good As It Looks Online
Stayed in the older rooms first (Terrible!) had plug-in heater!?? Road noise from street, Small!, Creaky Floors, Over-Priced!!! Switched to newer rooms on ground level, newer, cleaner, larger, more comfortable. Location is good. Parking can get full - small. Front-desk clerk useless and lied and said there were no other rooms to change to when there were (Found out next day!) Porters were excellent!

Ask for newer area of hotel. Go to York Abbey!!!! Fantastic! Drive to Malham Cove - Beautiful! Can see it in the Remake of Wuthering Heights w/Ralph Fiennes & Juliette Binoche. Unusual rocks in beautiful area. Unforgettable views!

Lovely , convenient and comfortable
This was my first trip to York and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Royal York is connected to the train station. It is conveniently located with in walking distance of everything. The facility itself is beautiful and the room was quite large, especially by UK standards and the beds were comfortable. We stayed during the off-season (early April) and got a great rate.

Bad experience
Prepaid via Master card for room, tax and service charge. Not allowed to charge any additional items as classified on key card as " CASH ONLY" Consequently we had dinner at Betty’s in York and Breakfast at the Rail Road Station. Room overlooked Station Platforms - smell of diesel fumes all night from passing trains.
