Great Little Gem of a Resort
I have always wanted to stay at this hotel. It has a lovely pool and great view of the beach. The place is beautiful and the was not overcrowded. I had a surprise when I checked in and was asked to sign a $300.00 authorization on my credit card. The front desk person could not adequately explain why, since I had already pre-paid for my week stay. I am use to hotels wanting a credit card but I have never had them automatically charge $300.00 to my account which they said would be refunded upon my discharge. It was but that took me by surprise and was very annoying. The rooms were nicely appointed and when I requested my room to be clean they came right away. The pool was closed in the middle of my last day as I believe one of the kids had an accident and it had to be cleaned. Another day for almost the full day we were trying to get some R&R by the beautiful pool, and the crane and workman were painting on side of the building as the landscaping people were mowing and weed whacking. This was no conducive to a restful time out by the pool. The spa on site is clean and peaceful and the staff very polite. The staff that drives the golf carts are prompt and extremely polite. The front desk people need some polishing and customer service training. I would still go back even with the minor annoyances. It is perfectly located, having a reasonable priced spa right down stairs and the beach out your door is worth any small inconviences.

The Sheraton is far better.
Hotel & rooms are very clean and the pools and hot tubs are great. But, dont expect to get a good view of the beach because the room views dont face east. They arent even slanted towards the beach, but are facing North/South and directly at the opposing building across the courtyard. The buildings are very close so youre basically looking into other guests rooms. You need to stay vigilent in making sure that youre not exposing yourself to the guests across the way; either that or keep your blinds drawn at all times. Parking lot is far from rooms, they have a golf cart & driver (when they can be found) to bring you from lot to the hotel, not a great deal in bad weather. Avoid the free breakfast/lunch sales pitch.
Traveler's tip on dining
Great choices for eating. Weve been going to SPI for 17 years as a family and have found a number of good places to eat. Try Blackbeards, Pirates Landing and Tom & Jerrys for lunch; Sea Ranch and Daddys for dinner. The Grapevine serves a great breakfast reasonably priced. Others Jesses cantina and Amberjacks are also good.
