Umaid Mahal Hotel, Jaipur
This is a great little hotel that deserves more than its 3 star rating by far. It was better than many 4 star hotels we stayed in. Beautiful decor, excellent, friendly service and good food. Not located near anything of interest but close enough to all the attractions by taxi.

Better than expected
A very clean, well maintained hotel with an impressive and India-style welcoming fasade. The manager and restaurant staff were all very helpful, although they guy in the reception wasnt the fastest one on earth...picking up the phone several times when talking to you, etc. Food in the restaurant is excellent! And so cheap. Try out the roof-toop restaurant, very nice to have some air and relax from the noice and traffic in town. However, service and comfort clearly above what price indicates, and the rickshaw drive to the old city just takes 10 min. Recommeded!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Tips for Jaipur: Take your time when exploring this crazy and interesting Indian city! Amber Fort with taxi outside town, Hawad Mahel, City Temple, and just walking around (again, take your time) in the old city called Pink City. People everywhere of course, so dont try to rush, you will just get annoyed. India as you imagine it. 2-3 days stay.

A Gem in Jaipur
The Umaid Mahal in Jaipur is located in an older building that has been reconstructed as a traditional palace. The feeling conveyed to the visitor is that of being a guest in an Indian palace. This hotel is not for one that wants to an International hotel. Unlike an International hotel, the price is midrange, the staff friendly, courteous and helpful and charges (such as internet access, breakfast) included in the one nightly price. The hotel can arrange for drivers who will provide the best of service at fixed city rates. I highly recommend this gem of Jaipur to those who want to partake of the best of Indian ambiance.
