General Information

What to expect: The palatial lobby of this 11-story Magnificent Mile hotel features a neoclassical decor with carved molding, crystal chandeliers, and jacquard-rose curtains. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 1920 hotel has hosted royalty, including Queen Elizabeth, heads of state, and celebrities.

Amenity highlights: The Palm Court hosts a traditional English tea each afternoon. The hotel's Cape Cod Room features a wood bar where Joe DiMaggio carved Marilyn Monroe’s initials. This downtown Chicago hotel offers 30,000 square feet of event space. One of the two ballrooms is the signature Gold Coast Room, a sought-after venue for weddings and receptions. A shopping arcade houses an art gallery, jeweler, florist, gift shop, and Chanel boutique.

Insider tip: The Drake Hotel's highly connected team of six concierges (four are members of the prestigious Clefs d’Or) can secure premier seats to concerts, symphonies, operas, and theater performances—including those that are sold out—and arrange for tables at restaurants, even when no reservations are otherwise available.
