Better than most....
This is the 6th hotel I have stayed at in 8 visits to Moscow. I have yet to find a hotel that really rates well and universally they are very costly in relation to what they offer. This is relatively convenient though a few blocks to walk to a metro and the street can feel a little insecure at night for a woman alone. The hotel does not charge you excessively high rates for extras nor does it play the unfair currency games that the Meridian indulges in, at the expense of their guests. The room pricing was reasonable by Moscow standards. The shower was tiny, the room lighting inadequate and the hotel had temporarily lost their liquor license when I was there. The evening dining room director was unpleasant and the business center closed during the hours I was at the hotel, but otherwise this was an OK stay and that is actually a good review for a Moscow hotel. Staff was generally pleasant and if you asked them to, they could open up the business center. On balance I can recommend this hotel.
It is intimidating at first, but the Moscow Metro system is incredible and the easiest way to get around after you get used to it. Trains come every few minutes and whisk you from one station to the next quickly. When you leave a Metro station it can be very confusing because of the many exits. Try getting directions from Google that have the Russian names of the exits. (I also bring along a compass to figure out which way is North once I get up on the street. After that I can find my way around.) Taxis are very expensive if you need an English speaking driver and otherwise difficult to find in Moscow.
