Not a 4 Star Hotel
Great location & the service was fine, yet the rooms & quality of food was not up to par. To be honest, the rooms are outdated, the beds are made of stone, the hot water is not constant. I had the feeling i was back inthe 70s. Food was not up to par Quality and assortment was lacking all in all its just not a 4 star hotel. Useful tip: If you book via Expedia and you get a complimentary pick-up service - make sure you email the hotel in advance about time of pick up, as the hotel will not contact you for your information.

Elegant, comfortable and convenient.
This architecture of this hotel is what Id call French Colonial and has a certain charm of its own. Teak wood is everywhere. It has all the modern conveniences and the staff is very helpful. My very reasonably priced, upgraded, room included a buffet breakfast that was quite varied and very good. I was able to hire a cab to see Angkor Wat and other, older, temples at the hotel and charge it to my room. US dollars are preferred because the local currency (Khymer Real)is so volatile.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Use the guides at the various temples. They are cheap and very good. Be prepared to wade through seas of young kids and adults who are trying, sometimes aggressively, (annoying, but not frightening) to make a buck by selling pamphlets or local products. They kids are so cute, it is hard to turn them down. Do not promise to buy something from them AFTER you come back out of a temple, because they will be all over you to keep your promise.

Prince D Angkor Hotel and Spa
More old fashioned, traditional, dark wooden decoration, but nice. Overall it was a nice hotel, it is clean and people are very friendly. If you need information they try to help, sometimes its easier to check those local travel guides or the internet. WiFi in my room wasnt very stable, so it wasnt always working. If you dont mind sleeping on a very hard bed with very hard pillows its a nice solution to stay for a few days over there (I stayed for 8 nights). Very nice outdoor pool, rooms are pretty big, food is quite good.

Prince DAngkor Hotel was gorgeous
The hotel was a little haven that was a 10 minute leisurely stroll to the city center. Beautiful decor, lovely pool, spotless wooden floor in the rooms, friendly staff - all made for a perfect stay. The spa looked lovely, but charged 4 times more than any other place ($20/hr for a massage compared to $5/hr elsewhere). Definitely worth a visit.
Traveler's tip on dining
Try the Dead Fish Tower. Excellent food and entertainment. Quite a different setup within. They have a croccodile pit in the corner of the restaurant.

Happy to recommend
Great hotel in the center of Siem Reap. Convenient location for everything (i.e. city or temples). Free wifi throughout hotel (get vouchers from front desk). Extensive buffet breakfast with both Asian and Western selections. Beautiful large pool. Quiet location (hotel has its own courtyard so does not open directly on the street). Good value for money. Very friendly staff.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Of course you are there for the temples. But try Pyramids disco if you like clubbing and want some fun. Its brand new (2008 I think), great live and Dj music, friendly people, no cover.

Great overall experience
My husband and I hadnt planned on going to Siem Reap too far in advance so we went in blind. We chose this hotel purely based on the description. We were very impressed with the service and area in general. The people were wonderful, and complimentary breakfast, including the service, was really great. Its pretty close to downtown, within walking distance, for sure, although all the tuk-tuk drivers want you to get in their tuk-tuk. The room cleanliness and style were great, but the walls seemed thin. We could hear one of our neighbors hacking and doors slamming. We were also close to the casino, although it stopped around 10 PM. Overall, great experience at the hotel and in Siem Reap.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
We ended up renting a tuk-tuk for a day and the driver was very well versed on which temples to take us in the Angkor region. Go outside the hotel and negotiate one on your own - they all speak English and its USD. We got ours for $12/day. Get the Lonely Planet Siem Reap tour book - it tells you all you need to know.
