Very nice little place

Nothing fancy, but clean. Friendly, helpful staff. Well kept pool and grounds. Full breakfast included. Great ocean view from the balcony or pool area. Occasionally had to let shower run a looong time to get hot water. Said they had Wi-fi although we couldn’t connect. We would gladly spend more time there.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Somewhat remote location involves considerable driving. If you plan to spend a lot of time in San Juan, stay there and don’t get a car. Getting around PR can be an adventure, drivers are crazy and road signage is spotty.

Relaxation and Comfort

Costa Del Mar is a beautiful and cozy parador, conveniently located close to the relatively untouched beaches of Maunabo and Patillas, and situated along the road known as the Panoramic Route. It is also close to the somewhat larger city of Humacao, which is not that far from the rain forest. The view is stunning, situated on a hill overlooking the sea. At night you can hear the peaceful sounds of the coqui frogs, and be greeted by roosters in the morning, on the hill across the street where you might also see horses. The breakfast room is part of your stay, and they actually serve at no charge full size breakfasts, complete with eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The rooms were cool and clean, with nice porches, and even a mini fridge and microwave. The staff was also friendly. We would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Enjoy the drive towards Maunabo and Patillas loaded with breath taking ocean views.

Very nice...

Rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and they serve a nice breakfast as well. The only down side is that it is pretty much in the middle of no-where (all though some might see that as a bonus). The satellite TV went out the last two days I was there but other than that my stay was perfect and would stay again anytime.

What a great place

Great location, beautiful view of ocean and island. Staff very helpful and speak English. Lots of things to see in area, good food, and simply beautiful weather. A great place to relax and unwind in the hammocks or in the pool. Paradors in PR are state regulated and family owned.

The Paradors of Puerto Rico offer stays with complete meals or just breakfast. You should price your stay both ways.

Very impressed.....

Pros - The staff was great. The views were spectular. The pool was small, but adequately maintained. Lastly, its location was ideal considering it is just far enough from San Juan to feel some genuine island vibes yet not so far as to be isolated from metropolitan attractions. Cons - There are not many bad aspects of this hotel. Sure, it doesn’t have room service, a huge pool, or a lazy river. Instead, it has just what it claims to have - an ideal atmosphere to relax and take some time to enjoy what the Southeastern coast has to offer. If you are looking for a 5 star resort, you may not be happy here. But if you are looking for a great place to relax and explore a more authentic Puerto Rico, then I believe your money would be well spent at Parador Costa Del Mar.

Traveler's tip

When getting a rental car, remember that having a larger car may actually be a liability on some of the smaller island roads. Some roads (particularly in the smaller towns) were barely large enough for our full size car, so consider getting a compact or economy if possible.

Great place to stay

Very nice and clean little hotel. We enjoyed or stay. The personel was helpfull, although you have to speak spanish to communicate with them better. Next time I am in Yabucoa, I’ll stay there again. I wish by than that they have ESPN on the their cable system.

Low price, not a bad hotel

Okay, so it wasn’t exactly a four star resort. But it was clean, cheap, and had a wonderful balcony view. High points: friendly service, they speak English, the rooms are clean and fairly spacious with a little balcony overlooking a nice bay. Full breakfast is included. Low points: It’s in a residential neighborhood that gets quite busy with Saturday and Sunday afternoon street-bar goers. The hot water pressure was awful when someone else was taking a hot water shower. And here’s the clincher- it’s not open 24 hours, so when you may be ready to check in (think 2AM after a full day of traveling)- *they* might not be ready to check you in- quite the travel nightmare! My guess, though, is that if you call ahead and make arrangements with their office, they’ll work to accomodate your travel plans. They were quite helpful. Despite its low points, as a traveler who’d rather spend my money *doing* things than on a ritzy hotel I’ll only see when I’m studying the backs of my eyelids, I’d definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip

Call ahead to be certain the hotel office will be open when you arrive. They are not open 24 hours! There seem to be no real street addresses in P.R. that I could find. Everyone gives directions based on the milemarkers (which are actually kilometer-markers) on the side of the road. The hotel is at 5.6km, just around a bend on the left if you’re coming from Yabucoa proper.

Quiet, modest hotel highly recommended

If you are a resort type of traveler, this is not the stay for you. But if you like to experience the local feel of the island in a quiet, secluded, clean hotel with incredible views of the Carribean, give Costa Del Mar a try. There are no restaurants in walking distance but the rooms have a fridge and microwave to store snacks. Grocery stores are close and cheap. The breakfast is good and the location is ideal for exploring the southern parts of the island. It’s worth the stay, just for the view.

Good for the price

This guesthouse was O.K. The view was great, for the price, it’s worth it if you don’t require any amenities. Only one restaurant in the area to go to, T.V. had very limited channels and the rooms were very small.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Enjoy the view. Stop at Wal Mart and grab some soda and snacks for your room because there is nothing at the guesthouse.
