My stay at the Keio Plaza

If you’re looking for great friendly service and convenience to what Tokyo has to offer this is the place to go. There are restuarants and little store at the bottom level of the hotel which definitely came in handy during my stay. If you exit the hotel from the bottom floor and make a right when you get outside it will take you through a tunnel that leads directly to the shinjuku station.

Traveler's tip

My tips to anyone who is traveling to japan would be pick up some water and a snack befor you head out for the day as you will probably be doing more walking then you normaly do. Try and use the subway system, because once you figure it out it will come very handing. Also dont be afraid to ask for help or where something is. The people of japan are some of the most outgoing people I have ever met to help someone out.

Good sized rooms

The hotel rooms were a good size and the location was good. Most hotel personnel speak English therefore it was easy to ask them for restaurant recommendations, directions etc.

Traveler's tip on dining

The hotel is located in a central place and there were plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance.

A Spacious Comfortable Refuge in Tokyo

We found the Keio Plaza to be all you could want from a Tokyo Hotel; 5 minute walk to Shinjuku Station (which connects you with everything),as well as lovely spacious rooms with amazing views, at reasonable (for Japan) prices. Excellent service, every room amenity including free internet, robes and even pajamas! The pool is a nice amenity after hot and humid days of sightseeing, and is spotlessly maintained. Many restaurants, beautiful and delicious but expensive. Yet the breakfast buffet in the Glass Court was reasonable compared to American hotels, and great start to our day. All the staff in the hotel are helpful and friendly, and many speak English, which turned out to be the exception in our experience. We had two more days to spend in Tokyo at the end of our trip, in which we thought to try another hotel in another area, but we were so happy with the Keio that we returned for our last two nights and very much enjoyed it.

It seems hard to find 2 queen beds in one room in Japan, so instead of adding a cot to a typical 2 single bed arrangement, our family chose to sleep 3 in one king bed. It worked for us, and felt much more spacious.

Wasn’t what I had pictured

I participate in a lot of Study Abroad opportunities for my university, and I get graduate grants to help with my expenses. I usually stay in dorms at the universities and save the money for a 3 day splurge at the end of my trip. I looked up the Keio Plaza hotel, and asked for the best room available. I had the Corner Comfort Room on one of the top floors of the South tower. It was smaller than I pictured, and amenities were minimal. Most staff spoke minimal English, and prices were quite high. There was no wireless internet, only wired. The view was spectacular, and the location was nice. Other than that, the hotel was alright, at best. You definitely pay for location, not to be pampered.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a convenience store located within the hotel that sells small meals, alcohol, and fast food relatively inexpensive. There is also inexpensive food close by.

Great hotel right by the Tocho complex

Overall we had a very nice stay at this hotel. It also helped to get a good deal from Expedia which made this hotel feel like such a great value for the money. The room was as advertised, clean, non-smoking, the king bed (not so standard in Japan) was very comfortable. We had a view directly over the Tocho buildings, one of the landmarks of the city. Wireless internet was free and reliable. The fridge was small but nonetheless convenient to store food and drinks. The room was on the small side but it’s to be expected in such a crowded city as Tokyo. The TV had a decent selection of English channels compared to other places I have been. We even had free complimentary newspaper in English every morning. Other than this, I did not take time to check the gym (a shame since it had been one criteria for selecting the hotel). However, I noticed the use of the business center was for a (small) surcharge which I found a bit stingy for an otherwise very pleasant hotel. In conclusion, I would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I thought I would mention that the Toei Oedo subway line has a stop right under the hotel building (Tochomae stop). It’s not completely obvious to find (check the parking entrance) but depending on your destination, this stop could save you the walk to the Shinjuku station which can take 5/10 minutes and get quite hectic during rush hours.

Solid choice; overwhelming neighborhood

While the hotel itself is great - helpful, English-speaking staff and rooms that are large by Japanese standards - the area itself can be a little confusing. I opted to stay there, since I’d read that nearby Shinjuku Station can take you anywhere in Tokyo (and beyond). What a lot of guidebooks fail to mention is that Shinjuku Station has over 200 exits - so finding the one that leads to Keio Plaza was like searching for a needle in the haystack. Five nights there and by the trips end we’d still only come by the right one by luck. Next time I go to Tokyo, I think I’ll stay in Shibuya - in a lively area and near a much more manageable train/metro station.

Traveler's tip

If you do stay here, definitely look for the Keio Plaza and West Exits out of Shinjuku Station to be anywhere near the hotel. Otherwise, you’ll need to walk above ground, along unnamed streets to find the hotel. NOTE: Even if you find a West exit, it’s not guaranteed (in fact, not even likely) to be the sole one that lets out right next to the hotel.

Good Place to Stay

This hotel is well located on the quieter side of Shinjuku station, giving easy access to all of Tokyo. The hotel rooms are older, but comfortable. The service was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

Great Service and Great Location

This is a first class hotel in a great location, located only a block or two from Shinjuku Station making all of Tokyo within 30 minutes striking distance via a short walk and subway ride. We had a Plaza Premier room on the 35th floor directly across from the Tokyo Municipal Government building. The room was of good size and equipped with all modern electronics including a flat screen TV, DVD player, and power window shades. The hotel has a selection of 13 dining options from Sushi, Shabu Shabu, Tempura, and Classic Japanese to mention a few. We tried the four of he restaurants and the quality and service was excellent in all. The concierge and overall service went above and beyond expectations. I needed a black sports coat and had forgotten to bring one. The concierge loaned me one of his own. All in all, we were extremely pleased with our hotel choice and doubt we could have done better any where else.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Don’t be afraid to explore Tokyo. Familiarize yourself with the city with your guide books, but when you go out into the city neighborhoods, put them away and just see what’s around the next corner. You’ll be pleasantly surprised and if you get lost, the Japanese people are most helpful!

Can’t not ask more than this............

Compare to 5star hotel services in the America and E.U., I just can’t not ask more services than all services available from this hotel. I mean from door man, Bellcaptain, front desk, including the most important part of "cleaness" all around hotel. I must reserve this hotel if I have to go back in the same city............

OK hotel bad service

My family stay there for 3 nights. I thought it would be relatively easy to get off on Shinjuku station and walk to the hotel. But it was a 10 min walk and not easy carry luggage in hot weather. Management is not good. The concierge was not helpful and had a "Don’t care" attitude. The hotel is too big and management simply did not have time to give good service. I am disappointed with the hotel.

Great hotel. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and nice. Even the maids that clean the room are so polite and friendly. I love this hotel.

Love it

The staff was always extremely helpful and courteous.

Traveler's tip

Leave the hotel from the basement side entrance near the coffee shop to catch the Oedo subway line. Also you will see a tunnel which will take you to Shinjuku station and the department stores-convenient when raining. Along this tunnel are stores including a money exchange that gives better rates than the hotel. Just before the money exchange is a great restaurant where they cook the fish on metal skewers angled over a firepit. You can see the pit from the window so it is easy to spot.

Great hotel with horrible management

We stayed in one of the "plaza premier" rooms on the top floor and the view was amazing, especially at night. On clear day/nights, we could see across what seemed like all of Tokyo. The hotel was in the PERFECT location for us to do all of our sightseeing (just three blocks from Shinjuku station where you can access Tokyo Subway, JR Trains, and Keio Line). JTB and a few other tour groups picked up from the hotel for day trips/excursions. The room was very modern and furnished extremely well (most advanced toiled I have ever seen :)). If not for one incident (in which a large amount of cash was taken from our room and management treated us very poorly, despite our paying a lot of money to be in one of their nicest rooms for 13 nights), I would definitely recommend this hotel. Because of the way I was treated by the management, worse then I have been treated at any other hotel I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world (and I have stayed in a good number of "luxury/premium" hotels in Europe and the Caribbean), I will never stay there again when I am in Tokyo ... its the Park Hyatt for me next time!

Upscale, Spacious, and Clean

We loved this hotel, and we are picky people accustomed to staying in nice, upscale hotels. Large, spacious rooms, an unbelievably helpful staff, and a ton of great restaurants -- all in an excellent, central location.

This was a deluxe room and it certainly deserved the description.

This was a "deluxe" room and it certainly deserved the description. The location was very convenient to Shinjuku Station but was quiet and out of the usual bustle. I was very satisfied.

great hotel, great location

This is an enormous, very nice hotel in a great area. We were just in Japan on a vacation, and we found this hotel very convenient for sightseeing. It is right next (1 block or less) to the Shinjuku station IF you find the right exit. We we arrived, we took the wrong exit and took a cab to the hotel. Needless to say, we were surprised to learn that the hotel is basically sitting on top of a station exit! Our room was immaculate and had a great view. Coffee and tea in the room, and as we are not morning people, we bought pastries every night so we could have a leisurely breakfast in the room. Our one complaint was that the various restaurants in the hotel were VERY expensive. However, the hotel is very near a lively shopping area with many, many inexpensive and delicious restaurants. We recommend this hotel!

Traveler's tip on dining

Many fun and inexpensive restaurants are in a shopping area about 1-2 blocks from the hotel--go out the main entrance, and cross the street. From the hotel, it doesn’t seem close to such a lively area, but it is--trust us!

Good Comfortable Hotel

My wife and I were on vacation and decided on the Keio Plaza. One reason was because that many of the rooms were larger than other hotels in the area. It is close to the trian station. It was safe. There was plenty of help when needed. I got some good rates through Expedia which were better than our travel agency could provide. I would reccomend this hotel and would go back.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If you plan on staying in Tokyo for and extented amout of time, and for leisure...you might want to move around to some of the other districts. Tokyo is so massive that sometimes it pays to chage to another hotel, or another Kieo.

Great location, Good service

Advantages: * The concierge and the bell captain were so helpful and kind! * The hotel itself is very convenient, as it is connected via underground walkway to Shinjuku station, has several restaurants in the building, and has a convenience store attached. * A post office with an ATM that accepts foreign cards is only a short walk away. * The colorful nightlife of Shinjuku is also only about a four minute walk away. * Gorgeous views of a seemingly endless sea of high-rise buildings. Disadvantages: * The mattresses in all our rooms were so very hard and the pillows offered no support. If you cannot handle an extremely firm mattress, I would not recommend these rooms. * The karaoke room closed an hour and a half early with no explanation. We were shown into a room (that was not yet cleaned) and then asked to leave two minutes later and were told they were "closed." When we pointed to the sign that said the closing time, but were just told that it was closed. We could hear others singing in the other rooms. We were not causing any disturbance and did not know why we were even shown into a room if it was closed. It was all very awkward and uncomfortable. * The attached restaurants are very expensive, even for Tokyo. Overall: * Great location, and in general very helpful * Good as a base of operations, but don’t choose for all the attached facilities. Better to go outside the hotel to eat and sing.

Traveler's tip

Be sure to pay attention to which exit you come out of at Shinjuku station! You want the West exit for Keio Plaza. If you take one of the others, construction may force you to make a very long walk around the station.

Expensive but nice hotel in Shinjuku

Very nice hotel with great staff. Narita airport bus drops off/pick up right at the hotel which is nice. Many restaurants to choose from in the hotel but expensive unless you are on a business budget and not paying for it. In-room pay movies are per movie rather than per 24 hours so expensive. Other nice and affordable restaurants and fast food places close by. Better deals can be found close by.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Many in-expensive small restaurants between hotel and Shinjuku station. Large camera and electronics store across the street from the station offering many good deals. I enjoy the area and have visited there several times.

Great place to to go in Tokyo

Definitely stay in a Premier room. Good value compared to other hotels of similar caliber in Tokyo. Great location...about 5 minute walk from Shinjuku Train Station, which is HUGE. The JR Yamanote line runs through the station, which gives you access to very common attractions and destinations in Tokyo. The bathroom in our room was large compared to a traditional Japanese bathrrom. The amenities provided in the Premier room were superb. If you are willing to take 2 hours and enjoy an incredible (though a bit pricey) meal, go to the French Restaurant and enjoy a great view of Tokyo. I recommend getting the 5 course meal.
