Location was great.

Super views. Breakfast and dining room food were very good. Common areas could use some sprucing up.

Nice, Semi-Secluded Hotel Near Moville

I ended up selecting this hotel because it looked like a decent hotel in the upper portion of County Donegal. For all intents and purposes, it seemed to live up to it’s reviews. A nice quiet location far enough from the hustle-and-bustle but close enough to the attractions that make Cty Donegal special. The service was pretty good and the staff at the front desk were helpful with information about local attractions. The only problem I had was more of an irritant than anything. The heater worked oddly and made the room too hot. I had to open the front windows to air it out (but inside of room was easily visible since I was facing the parking lot). A temporary trade off of privacy for comfort. The dinner offered by the in-house restaurant was among the best I ate on my stay in Ireland but somewhat pricey for those on a budget. Overall a good place to stay!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Be sure to head up to Malin’s Head and check out the farthest point north in Ireland. Also be sure to swing by the free public beaches on your way (one just past Greencastle). And speaking of Greencastle, if you’re interested in checking out the Giant’s Causeway, just catch the ferry there, which runs on the hour during normal business hours (approx 12.50 Euros I believe). I regret not having more time to check out the pubs in Moville. People seemed really nice there.

Breathtaking...

I had first been to this hotel as a child, when it was a family run hotel in an old manor home, overlooking Lough Foyle. I had attended many reltives wedding receptions at the old hotel and have warm memories of the charm and atmosphere the old manor house gave to the hotel. I was not quite sure how I would feel staying here after the renovations and new management took palce a few years ago. I can say with assurance, that they have exceeded every expectation! I stay in hotels around the world for business and pleasure on the average of 200 nights a year. The Carlton Redcastle Hotel ranks in my top 10 in the world today. The scenery provides a wonderful backdrop to the smiles, service, food, personal attention to every detail, the comfortable rooms, the warm pub, the gracious restaurant... the accolades will not stop when you experience this hotel. i stay at hotels as small as the charming Hotel Nelligan in Old Montreal to oppulant The Pennisula in Kowloon (Hong Kong)... the Carlton Redcastle Hotel is a wonderful find in the status of these world class hotels.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

* The outdoor deck, just off the restaurant, provides sweeping views of Lough Foyle and Northern Ireland that is a wonderful place to enjoy a coffee after breakfast, lunch or dinner. * Be sure to get back to hotel before 1am (the pubs close at 1am in Donegal) as the front door is locked... and getting back in may take a few minutes as the night porter needs to open it for you
