Ideal location but . . .

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Time Square, the Theatre District, Central Park, and Grand Central Station. We hopped a cab to everywhere else. The room was huge, dark, and sparsely furnished (not to our liking -- it felt moody and sterile), but the bed was very comfy. The shower was horrible -- literally a dribble of water and we froze. Fortunately we Northwesterners are accustomed to conservation so we managed, but it was a challenge for my adult daughter to rinse her long, thick hair. Room service was negligible -- when we called to order, none of our choices were ’available’ so we opted for the bare minimum. Even still, it cost nearly $50 for the two of us! The front desk people were pleasant but not particularly helpful in stearing us to our destinations, even when we procured a map for them to use to help us. There was no ’concierge’ service at all. The business office computers/printers were very helpful to Google-search and print out web tickets, and the computers were available very late and very early. Helpful for someone traveling without a laptop. The only reason I would consider returning to this hotel is because of the price and the location.

Excellent location!

Despite reviews, Flatotel completely exceeded our expectations. Rooms are apartment-style and spacious. Everyone was extremely helpful. Location was great - close to Broadway, 5th Ave. Would definitely stay here again

Nice Hotel - Great Location!

Had a wonderful time at this hotel. They were able to accommodate our party of four with hotel rooms right next to each other. They had fresh fruit and coffee in the lobby every morning for a quick breakfast or snack on the go. Rooms were big, clean and contemporary. Location was absolutely fabulous - centrally located and within walking distance of everything!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Bus tours are very worth it - you can see the city in two days and you get a bonus Circle Line trip around the Statue of Liberty included in the price ($21 value).

Very central -staff very accomodation and obliging

Room needs a handrail in the bathtub. Juccuzzi disconnected. Even the good quality paper cups are not a substitute for glasses.

Nice room, good area

If I had to complain about anything, it would be slow elevators (only two of them for guests). But the room was nice and big, the price was right, and the location was near lots of things including MOMA and the subway lines we needed.

Not impressed

The bathroom had a spa tub but when I tried to take a bath I noticed it was not only disconnected but reeked of mold and mildew. The tub leaked on to the tile floor so although the bathroom appeared to be updated it clearly had issues. The bed and bedding were quite nice so at least that was a redeeming quality.

Some very large rooms

We had two rooms, one of which had a full kitchen with dishes and a dining room. The other room was smaller but had a massive bathroom. Great bellmen who stashed our luggage and got cabs for us, and the location cannot be beat--close to several subway lines and near Times Square but still quiet. One problem: there are 40 floors and two elevators. In the morning, people on the middle floors waited a very long time for an elevator, so request a bottom or top floor.

Very generic euro style hotel

This hotel is very centrally located near most entertainment venues and week-end street fairs which we enjoyed. Also many good delis and restaurants in the area. the hotel has minimal neutral decor and little charm. Very modern.Very clean. The only problem was the show elevator service. My husband waited 35 minutes to get to the lobby from the 22 floor because only 2 elevators were working for this 47 story hotel so we missed a function we were to attend because of that. This could be a real problem in an emergency situation.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Brasserie "Maison" had great european style food very close to hotel.

its ok.

The price for the location was good, but the hotel was just ok. The bathroom was big, the shower was nice - (yes it only has half a door, no that’s not a problem). We booked a king, got a queen. We asked about it, but they said they were "looking in to it and would get back to us." Almost two weeks later and still haven’t heard anything. I try to find hotels with king beds, because we don’t have one at home. so, bummer #1. Bummer #2 was that the air conditioner quit working on our 2nd day of staying there (out of 3 nights). It was decently hot in NY that weekend and it was uncomfortable in the room at all times. I called the front desk, they had an "engineer" come up to fix it right away. He took the air conditioner apart and in about 10 minutes he put it back together and was gone. The a/c worked for about 5 minutes after he left. I didn’t call back. If this is the part of town you want to be in, it’s not bad, but you might encounter some problems. If you’re thinking about other parts of town, consider them a little more.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

blocks away from MoMA, Seagram’s Building, Lever House, Central Park, Rockefeller Plaza Bobby Flay restaurant across the street; Iguana is also very good, a few blocks away.

Flatotel falls flat!

This is just another sub par hotel trying to pass itself off as a quality boutique hotel. Don’t let the pictures fool you. My room was horrible; chipped paint, stale cigarette smell, wall plugs that you needed tape just to keep the plug in the wall. If I was going to be in NYC longer than two days I would have checked out of this hotel and gone somewhere else.

no real coffee in rooms

had a good stay, but disappointed that no coffeepot in room or room service to bring us any. Good location, close to things we wanted to see. Clean and quiet.

Devil in the details

Overall the place was nice. It was a decent size and it seemed to be updated. As my title suggests there were a few things missing. For our mid Aug trip, NYC was hot and humid. Going back to this hotel was less than refreshing. It seemed they only had air conditioning in the lobby. Our AC was pumped to the max in the room and it never really got cooler than 77 degrees. When you are sweating from a good walk on 5th ave, coming back to a warm rooms was disappointing. The shower was fine but there were no washcloths in sight. We ended up using the mid sized towels as washcloths. The hotel has 40+ floors and only 2 very slow elevators in service. This caused us to wait in the hot, no AC hallways a few times. I would think a place with that many floors and rooms would have more than 2 elevators in service. A pretty big problem was when we came to check in, the room was not ready (granted it was 11AM). The bellboy said he would store the bags for us so we could go walk the strip. When we came back to check in, the bellhop had left our bags (suitcase and laptop bag with laptop inside) in the hall next to the elevators with nothing more than a red velvet rope standing guard.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you don’t mind the warm rooms, this hotel was very close to Times Square and Radio City Music Hall. A small walk got you to most places nearby.

Great location

Basic, adequate hotel with a wonderful location. Within walking distance to Times Square and Lincoln Center. It has just what you need and nothing more, which was perfect. Loved having a refrigerator and in room safe.

Very dissappointing.

Room smelled like smoking was previously allowed, noisy air conditioner, uncomfortable flat bed, worn carpet, no full-length mirror, one wash cloth for 2 adults, cramped quarters, unexplained noises.

Very good stay

It was a very comfortable large room, great location, with a small fridge and microwave. We had no problems with the elevators, but the shower curtain is not designed to keep the all the water in the tub, this was a very minor problem, however. I would recommend it to tourists for it’s proximity to Times Square, Central Park, theatres, museums, and most of the attractions visitors want to see.

A great value in midtown

I was traveling last minute for an interview and wanted to be walking distance from my destination. It was great -- arrived late - room was ready - although no room service - a great relationship with a restaurant that delivered.

Great value for the theater district

We stayed at Flatotel for an extended weekend, and loved it. It’s not super fancy, but it was clean, updated, comfortable, and extraordinarily convenient to Times Square and Broadway. Even though it rained most of the weekend, we walked everywhere, and probably never spent more than 10 or 15 minutes to get to the farthest destination. Next time we go back to NYC, I’ll definitely be looking up Flatotel again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Buy tickets to go see "Wicked" - it’s amazing. The theater is probably 5 minutes away from the hotel. We got great seats, and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Alli Mauzey and Nicole Parker were incredible. A MUST see.

Perfect

Flatotel exceeded my expectations. The room was large and the bed was great. The bathroom was large and the robe and slippers were a nice touch. I was in NYC for one week and this room almost felt like a small apartment. The hotel staff was helpful and very friendly and responsive. The tech support was excellent. The location was perfect. There was a constant stream of cabs passing in front of the hotel and I never had to wait. I highly recommend this hotel for business travel.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Great central location. Close to MOMA, Times Square, and Penn Station. There were several great restaurants nearby and great places to stop into for a quick sandwich and coffee.
