Unsanitary, repulsive and very dirty conditions

I was most bothered that we paid a premier price for staying in a place without indoor plumbing. The restroom was unusable because we had to pump out the urine and pump in water every time we used the tiny toilet. The kitchen was filthy. The draws were full of junk left by previous visitors. There were zero amenities: no water, no soap, and no flush toilets. It was expensive camping; a premier price for an outhouse, middle of the night walks to the drunk-haunted public restroom one block away, and a miserable experience. Basically, we rented a dirty kitchen and very smelly and unusable restrooms in the middle of busy pier filled with drunken people and loud music throughout the night.

A unique experiance

The boat is positivily relaxing...however, you only have the sounds of the bay and a radio. Not for the more pampered lifesttyles because you are far from that. I.E. no shower or tv. But the sails are beatiful and there is always something going on throughout the day in the marina. The crew was absolutly polite and we are thankful that they made our experiance very pleasant.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

do know that there is not a real shower on the boat. Be prepared to shower in the public showers on the dock. There is also no television so do not expect to watch any shows while you are there as well.

Key West Sailing Adventures

Had a fantastic weekend in Key West aboard "Obsession", our private 37ft O’Day sailboat in Key West harbor. The location is great, everything within walking distance to the boat, great food, shopping and of course Duvall Street. Slept like a baby with the cool ocean brezzes and the gentle rockin’ of the boat at night. The people in the marina are very nice and you actually get to feel like a local while enjoyin’ "the best" of Key West. Thanks Captain Albert, we will definately be back!

Traveler's tip on dining

Cafe Soleil, best Lobster bisque and conch carpaccio I’ve ever had. Pepe’s has the best baked oysters!

Great experience!

I would recommend this hotel if you are looking to relax and spending some time on the water. The boat was very comfortable with acceptable amenities. The location was awesome with everything within walking distance. Parking was somewhat an issue, but what do you expect when you are on a tiny island. Try it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent Key West Experience

Having been to the Keys numerous times over the years, I can say without a doubt that our stay here was the best. The marina is in a great location, with a good market and several good restaurants nearby. There are some inconveniences, like space, that go along with staying on a boat. But the overall experience is worth it. Waking up in the morning, walking over the docks, grabbing a coffee, and chatting with other boaters makes for an excellent start to the day that can’t be had at other lodgings.

Traveler's tip on dining

B.O.’s has excellent burgers and good conch fritters. They close early, though.

Very enjoyable

This was perfect for us. Staying at a major chain hotel gives you the sense that you could be anywhere. I looked forward to sailing and the 1/2 day sail was very relaxing. I think the captain wanted to cut it short but when I told him I wanted to stay out for the sunset there was no hesitation. It is a boat. It is not an expansive suit. For what it was, it was great. I would do this again without hesitation. I am one who also would rather seek a B&B than a chain hotel. A public shower was available. restricted to marina occupants was clean and very satisfactory.

Great location but worn out

Fun to stay on a boat with a great location and nice to go on a sailing trip, but the boat is worn out and to many things aren’t working. Futhermore the complimentary items weren’t provided. To expensive for what you get.

Life as a local!

We enjoyed our stay, but be careful and do not leave the boat unlocked. We learned the hard way that it only took a few minutes for someone to steal from us. Having owned boats in the past, it was fun to "camp" out again & let the water rock us to sleep.

Traveler's tip on dining

Mangia,Mangia was about 4 blocks away & worth every penny. The servings are huge, so you can share!

Would have more comfortable in a hotel room

For the cost, we could have been much more comfortable in one of the local hotel rooms. The main attraction for us was the sailing trip, which was included in the price of our stay. There were reports of lightening in the area, so our evening sail was cancelled, so we never took the boat out of the harbor. The captain was aplogetic, but our disappointment could have been slightened if he would have come with a small token, say, a bottle of wine or something.

Living with the locals

This was just the kind of experience we prefer when traveling. The location of the boat put us right in the middle of the "real" Key West, and away from the tourists--yet within walking distance to everything. The first mate, Kenny, went above and beyond by introducing us to local eateries and pubs, and making sure we were having the best time. One very nice amenity that was not described on the website was access to the private laundry, showers and restrooms just steps away, available only to tenants of the marina. We are already planning a return visit.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Go to Alonzo’s for half-price appetizers between 4 and 6:30 everyday--it’s plenty for an entire meal, and you can try many different seafoods.

Reminded me of camping

It was like camping actually had to go to seperate building for showers and rest room facilities.Bedding never was changed during our stay.Only had 1 washcloth and had to use same towels to bath with during stay. Sailing was fun but never got to reef to snorkel or swim.

Not your regular hotel

We stayed on the boat for 4 days and were really pleased by the location and the service that comes with it. Overall, you have to compromise on cleanliness, size of your room, common bathroom ( if you want a real one and not the marine one), etc .... But you live on a boat (it is really relaxing) and with the afternoon excursion that is included in the package, it is definitively a winner. We will go back there if we have the opportunity.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

KW is about sailing and fishing .. So live on boat ..

A fun getaway spot that we’ll do again!

This was a great vacation. We had never slept on a sailboat and it was quite relaxing. The location is perfect as we were able to walk just about everywhere on the island. Our weather wasn’t the best but despite that we loved it. The day sail was a blast and the crew made it a memorable trip.
