Just what we were looking for

We picked this hotel for the "atmosphere" and the location in the town of Williams. We found the owners very helpful and friendly. Near the hotel, we located fun bars, country style, and good restaurants. Cruisers 66 was a blast! Good food and fun music....Take Route 66 to Kingman for the ’feel of the road’ if you are heading to Las Vegas.

Historic, quaint, friendly staff, good location.

It’s historic and appears to be owned and maintained by a single owner. The place is clean, neat, but it does have the tell-tale signs of age. It doesn’t have the latest/greatest plumbing or HVAC, but it does have all you need to get some rest and enjoy the town.

Traveler's tip on dining

I was skeptical when the owner recommended the Thai place around the corner, but I tell you what, try the angry princess plate (or something like that) it’s a great curry dish that isn’t as sweet as the stuff I normally get, I thought it was AWESOME. A good Thai place in the middle of Arizona, who knew?

Hotel stay in Williams Arizona

If one wants to stay at more than100 year old hotel I guess it was OK. One cannot expect comfort level that modern hotels provide, but that was not mentioned in ad provided in net description. We did stsy at orher old hotel and were very satisfied with accomodations.

Charming old hotel

It’s an historic hotel, so don’t expect brand new stuff, but otherwise, it’s a charming place to stay. Each room is different. There was no TV in my room, which had a queen-sized bed and private bath (which consisted of a tub only; shower is down the hall and shared), so if that’s important to you, double check before you book. Easy walking distance to several restaurants and the Grand Canyon train. Check in was 3pm and the front door was locked before then.

it’s ok

it’s a family owned hotel in williams, about 1 hour away from the grand canyon. the style is like a bed and breakfast, except without the breakfast. the owners are friendly and helpful. they let you pick a room that suits your taste as each one of them is decorated differently.

pay attention

This is very nice house, but extreamly uncomfortable for the guests unless you’re traveling with the large (I mean LARGE) group. The room (with private bath) was very tiny - no closet, table or chair but with the sink inside... That tiny room has 4 door and window with the fan as a airconditioner substitution (outside was about 90+F). You hear any movement or wisper people next room. All other rooms been open and we checked them - pretty similar. Check-in on 3pm and before that time the door locked... Bottom line: if you’re visiting the Grand Canyon - this hotel is not for you - you easily can find standard room in many motels on your way to Canyon.

unique

Great hotel, each room has a different theme, and decorated in old era. Proprietors are awesome. There is a wonderful welcoming lobby for sitting and visiting, and benches out front for people watching. There is a shared frig and microwave. Parking is where you can find it. This hotel is right in the middle of everything, walking distance to restaurants, shops and bars.

Traveler's tip on dining

Cruisers 66 has great outdoor dining with music. Ribs and steak were great. Relax and enjoy !

Great but quaint

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Canyon Hotel as we were traveling through Arizona for a move from Indiana to California. Since the Grand Canyon was along the way, we decided to stop off for the night and chose this as a place to stay. I knew what to expect from viewing the hotel home page and reading previous reviews, namely, that this was not going to be a luxury hotel experience. That being said, we loved the ambience of the place! Williams is a quaint, safe town where we felt comfortable parking our moving van overnight. The hotel staff were extremely hospitable and warm so that we both felt like we were staying at a friend’s house rather than a hotel. Also, we immensely enjoyed the decor and historical atmosphere. We enjoyed the sitting area downstairs, where we shared some drinks and used the Wi-Fi after our long day of travel. Our single criticism was that our window only had a thin curtain covering it, which would have been fine except that the neon "Hotel Vacancy" sign was hanging just outside and kept our room lit up all night. Fortunately, as we were both very tired, we slept just fine (also, we have learned to carry sleep masks and ear plugs when we travel).

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Grand Canyon Hotel is located on Route 66 in Williams, so it is easy to walk to all of the lovely shops and restaurants in town. We ate at the Thai restaurant just around the corner, which was delicious! We also had some beers down the block at a local micro-brewery in town.

Great old hotel

We spent one night in the Paris room and really were impressed. The owners were terrific. It is a neat old hotel in a neat little town. I wish we’d have had longer to stay.

definitely something different !!!!!!!!

this is the quaintest hotel we have ever stayed in & if "quaint" ain’t your thing, you’d better steer way away from it. it’s the oldest hotel in Arizona & is very reminicent of rooms you’d see in old John Wayne movies (the only thing new is that the rooms now have bathrooms!). when i made the reservation thru Expedia, i thought i was reserving a room @ another hotel. the room was clean & reasonably comfortable & the host & hostess were both gracious & friendly. if you don’t need coffee pots, microwaves, refrigerators, etc. & you love nostalgia, this is the place for you.

Very Impressive, Friendly, Atypical Hotel

The hotel is located in the center of Williams, Arizona and is the oldest hotel still in operation in that state. Each room has a theme which reflects the period right around the First World War in time. The rooms are the original size, but that is fine - there are larger rooms available when travelling with children. It has the comfort of being at home. My wife and I adored it and will definitely stay there when we are back in the area.

Friendly small town atmosphere

Our hosts were welcoming & helpful. The hotel is vintage looking throughout-like stepping back in time.We chose the nautical room which had a bath with shower. Room was small, the bed was wonderfully comfortable & the shower was strong & hot. We parked on the street next to the hotel, no meters. We stayed Sun/Mon nights & there was music downtown, shops open late, a horse & wagon parked at a nearby bar/restaurant. We ate a block from the hotel - Pine Country- the food was very good and fast service. We would stay again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Safeway store nearby is good place for breakfast bagels, bakery cookies & fresh fruit. Several competitive gas stations. Pine Country Restaurant is good food - we saw several larger families eating out there. Fast food restaurants within easy driving distance of the hotel. Free morning coffee & free internet at hotel.

Pleasent

The rooms are very neat and clean. But very small. The wooden floors and Ma Baker portrait at the top of the stairs gives it a horror movie feel. Each room has it’s own theme. I’d recommend you go for one with it’s own bathroom.

A Charming, Antique Hotel

If you like antiques, you’ll love this hotel. It opened in 1891 and every room is filled with antiques to keep that feel. The wooden floor isn’t level, the doors creak, there aren’t any in-room phones or TVs. The rooms are tiny. My wife and I usually stay in 4-5 star hotels, but I took a chance on this little gem for our trip to the Grand Canyon. I’m glad I did. We loved the quaint character and the location was good for doing a variety of things in Northern Arizona. The owners run it like a bed & breakfast (without the meals). They are both super friendly and like to talk. This hotel is also a work in progress as they are not yet finished renovating it.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If this is your first time in Northern Arizona, be sure to visit Sedona as well. It’s a reasonable day-trip from your home base in Williams and the views are AMAZING. We also recommend the Deer Farm petting zoo and the grand canyon Jeep Tours. Too much fun!

right where i needed to be

the hotel was great. i almost never used the rental car cause everywhere i needed to be was within a blocks walk from the hotel. everything was great from the neat rooms to the cozy lobby. staff like the hotel was small and personal. felt more like home and not like ’hotel.’ i would recommend this place to all grand canyon visitors.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

the strip is small like the town so you should be able to walk to most destinations.

Classic Choice

Its a nice decent hotel accomodation, not an high - fi though. Still maintaining the old historic heritage. Its in the Route 66 and Williams Downdown. Service too is very good and personal attention is taken care of.

An experience I will NEVER forget.

My wife & I stayed at this hotel because of the reviews we saw on this website. I am happy to say that we were VERY pleased with our selection. If you go there not expecting much, you will be pleasantly surprised. If you go there with VERY high expectations, this is not the place for you. This place is for people who want to have a pleasant place to stay and take in a little history as well. The staff was EXTREMELY helpful in making our stay a memorable one.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The train is a VERY nice way to add to the experience of the Grand Canyon. We also enjoyed the "painted desert" & the "Petrified Forest". Also, the Red Raven restaurant is a WONDERFUL place to eat. Excellent food and great service.

A Pleasant Surprise--and enjoyable location

We arrived in Williams and took a look at the outside of the hotel--sort of so-so. But from the time we stepped inside we were entralled with the charm of the place and the friendliness of the hosts. In fact the current owner’s young grandson was visiting and acting as one of the hosts. His ambition, he told us is to go to college in a few years and eventually take over running the hotel. After getting settled we enjoyed walking around town--Grand Canyon Hotel is within walking distance of many interesting tourist shops and several tasty restaurants. I have been telling my friends about our pleasant experience at Grand Canyon Hotel, and would go back in a heartbeat.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

You might want to stay at the hotel and board the train for Grand Canyon, since the trains leave right across the street from the hotel.
