Wonderful Spot
We stayed at this hotel recently and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We have a 3 year old and while the age profile of guests at this hotel trends toward an older crowd, we felt very comfortable there. You are next door to the ferry station so getting around the lake is easy. We spent most evenings there in dowtown Managgio and had plenty of excellent options for dining.

Not so Grand
We stayed all the way in Menaggio because the reviews on this hotel were so nice. Do not believe the hype. If your over 80 and love 80s decor than its for you, for the rest of us a definite pass. We left some items in the hotel on accident and never receive a call from staff to help return our items. People were nice enough but no modern conveniences. Avoid.

The food at the restaurant was disappointing. We stayed there twice before and this time the food was poorly prepared. We recommend Expedia to re-evaluate their 4.7 star rating.

The Hotel is very well situated with good view, quiet and close to transportation. But, don’t eat there!

Great hotel!
One of the few hotels with balconies. Also-Actually got served eggs, bacon and sausage along with the usual traditional fare of a European breakfast. A terrific way to start the day! Great location with a ferry directly behind the hotel and the bus stop directly opposite. You can walk in to the town center to get your bus tickets and the staff was courteous and friendly. Internet access and hotel safes and hair dryers in every room. Also had a bathtub.

Quiet Place
This hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of most of the tourism. In that regard, it might be what you like or not... Really however, it was a great jumping off point for all of Lake Como due to the fact that the ferry is adjacent to the hotel, and it take less than a 5 minute walk to be in the middle of shopping and restaurants.

Lovely Lake Como Experience
Grand Hotel Menaggio was a wonderful hotel in a great location right on the lake. The staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms comfortable, clean, with amazing views. Free parking with plenty of space. It served a perfect spot for exploring the Lake Como area.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
The ferry terminal is right next door to the hotel. If you get the EUR 11 all-day pass for the short excursions, you can visit Bellagio, Varenna, and other towns without paying for each individual leg of the trip. Ask about the schedule as the printed timetables can get confusing.

Heavenly
What a hotel. What they lack in updated and current accomadations they make up for in freindly staff, great service and location. Situated right in town, overlooking the sparkling lake you have a front row seat to paradise. The staff jump at every request and provide every possible amenity. It is a fun and freindly place to kick off your shoes and maybe even meet a few very nice Europeans.

The restaurants are few but it is just a ferry boat ride away is Bellagio and more towns that offer great dining.

cold pool
Great location, but the "heated pool" was ice cold. Overall it was a very nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful Location
The hotel has a fantastic location on Lake Como. The lovely pool and grounds overlook the lake. However, the hotel is a little tired and needs to be updated. Our room did not have a shower and our friends’ room was small and they could hardly get into the bathroom because it was designed so poorly. We wanted to make a reservation in the main dining room for dinner and we were told that we didn’t need reservations. When we arrived for dinner we were given a table back in a corner not at all close to the open-air part of the room overlooking the lake. The internet system at the hotel was very inadequate and needs to be updated. The hotel is only a block or so from the town center which is a plus and it is next to the ferry so it is easy to get across the lake to other towns.

If you want to shop you should go to Bellagio or Como as the shopping in Menaggio is not very good.

Ohh my God,...we can’t wait to go back!!!
Our hearts are still in Lake Como!!! My husband and I had our 1st trip to Europe in our 16th Anniversary. We married young, so, we are still a young couple. As a part of our trip, we picked Lake Como seeking for a peaceful and romantic atmosphere as many couples. We were stunned by the beauty of the lake views; it was beyond our expectations. The hotel is one of the best places to stay in the area. Its location was kind of far but as soon as we got there all staff let us feel like "Royalty". Our room was lovely, romantic and incredibly comfortable but the room views over the lake were "Ohh my God,... unforgettable." We are planning to return with the whole family hopefully next year!!!

If you rent a car and go by yourself try to get a "good map" of the area to make it easy.

Was not satisfied with the service of the person that takes care of tours & other such services.
The tour guide at the hotel kept on suggesting expensive and not necessary trips that cost about $300 American while they can be done for maybe about $10 American. Expedia did not mention breakfast was included and should have. Also, the hotel recommended a $300 cab ride back to the airport while when asking info center in the town, we were refered for a $230 cab ride. No buses early in the morning or late at night. Other wise the hotel was beautiful but service, not good at all. There is a 2 Euro to use the computer in the hotel, which should have been free. You cannot exchange money at a good rate at hotel but some ridicoulas rip off amount which was not fair to take advantage of tourists. Everyone was okay except for the gentleman who took care of the tours.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Do not exchange money in the hotel, you will loose triple amount of your money. Cab is very expensive from the hotel as well, please see information center for a cheaper cab (Diego)to the airport or other location. Do not take the special boat ride to the villas, they cost $300 American and extra $$$ while you can take the ferry for few dollars and do things on your own rather than your own private boat with extra $$$
