Ottawa’s best location for OIAF

Aside from the lack of a vent in the bathroom, these rooms are comfortable and relaxed, and the workout room/pool is nice. But perhaps the best feature is its central location to about EVERYTHING in Ottawa, especially if you’re there for the animation festival. Nothing is more than a 15 minute walk, and many things are right across the street.

Take the bus whenever possible to and from the airport-- the shuttle is $13, a taxi is nearly $40, and the bus, $3.

Great Place

Room smelled wonderful. (Big deal to me. ) Charming, Classic. Room cleaning staff where wonderful. Walking distance to market and all happens of Ottawa. Must visit the Highlanders Pub! Great Food & Drink and wonderful & kind crew working there. Hotel staff was great with suggestions on what to visit. Breakfast was a tad pricey I thought. We stayed a week.

Great hotel for the price

I stayed at the Novatel in downtown Ottawa. The room was clean and large enough. The location was fantastic. The free internet access was great. I will definitely look to stay there on any future visits to Ottawa.

Very Nice

Great Location - parking is a bit of a pain in the butt, but the hotel is very nice. Decent breakfast (not included) at the restaurant located near the front desk. The downtown market and small wonderful reataurants are within blocks of the Novotel. The staff are very kind and very helpful.

Parliament, National Gallery, bridge across the river to Gatineau and the Museum of Civlisation, Rideau Canal, and shopping all very close to Novotel.

good hotel , not good sorrounding .

I enjoyed the stay at tyhis hotel, Lobby can be improved, great service, but the neighbourhood is not great, may be even unsafe after dark, especially if women stay alone here( not in the hotel but the sorrounding).

Perfect Location, Clean and Well Kept

The hotel was perfect in every...Clean, Well kept, Perfect location 500 ft from the Wayward Market where there are over 200 restaurants and clubs in a 3 block area. 400 ft from the Rideau Mall (huge 3 floor modern shopping mall in the heart of Ottawa). 600 ft from the Rideau Canal (Skating) and a few extra feet to the Canadian Parliment Buildings. Be careful of the room placement though...We were first placed into a excruciatingly small 2 twin bed room (family of 4) but a quick call to the front desk got us moved into a "20" series room (Rm220) which had the same modern ammenties but in a room twice the size. Staff was friendly and very accomodating. We will stay there again for Winterlude next time.

What I expected

I travel offen and have had my share of good & bad rooms. I’ve stayed at different Novotel Hotels before and this one was like the others. I was greeted well, parked at the hotel (added cost); the room was well kept with better quality bed, etc... for a good price. I arrived late and left early, so I can’t say anything about the rest of the hotel.

Good Value Good Location

I had a two night business trip in Ottawa. Parking a rental was not included and should be. ($14/per day) Breakfast room service a nice perk. The hotel resturant needs to be reworked. Poor menu selections, over-priced wine bar and felt like an ice rink (not enough heat). Room quality and confort was of quality and worth the price. Mini bar well stocked but as most hotels that offer a mini bar, way over priced. Walk across the street and you can buy a few cans for a fraction the price.

Extremely nice but small room

Room was unusually nicely decorated, but very small. Short walk to canal and many, many restaurants.

Modern and refreshing

While the room seemed to be a bit on the small side, the furniture and fixtures were designed to capitalize on available space. The wall-mounted HDTV and bed with table lights incorporated into the headboard were impressive. The room, though compact, included a king bed, armchair and sofa, and desk that provided an ethernet connection. Nice amenities also included a fully stocked minibar. Be careful though! The hotel immediately charges the room for anything that is removed from the bar (automatic sensors). Snooping through things could become quite expensive as the price for the beer is about $8 per can and snacks range from about $3. Coffee pot and coffee provided were on par with other hotels. The in-room safe was quite nice. The bathroom was a major plus here. Modern french-style doors open into a spacious tile floored room with a glass front shower. While the room is rather short on space, the bathroom is actually larger than most. I found the staff to be helpful and cordial. For the negatives, I must mention that there is no valet and the hotel shares a parking garage with a neighboring hotel. The cost is not included in room price. The 24 hour workout facility is also shared with the same hotel and has rather outdated equipment and is located in a small, dingy room. Chose not to workout there, personally. Overall, one of the best hotels my husband and I have stayed at in Ottawa. We would recommend it to our friends.

I’ll go back

Ottawa is not a big town, but location always matters, and the Novotel is situated at a minutes’ walk from the shopping district and a brief ride from the main office areas. The rooms are tidy and comfy and the wireless service is impeccable. The desk persons are accomodating, so the frequent traveler who likes a reliable place to fall on bed will find this a good place to go to.

Nice hotel for the money, close to almost everything you would want to see in Ottawa. The nearby market is a great place for breakfast.

The hotel was very nice, very professional. No issues whatsoever, and friendly courteous and helpful staff.

Comfortable room, helpful, friendly staff.

Convenient location. Fantastic bed. Delicious breakfast buffet. Lobby internet was very helpful. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Only downside was that the room was a bit cramped since the king sized bed kind of overwhelmed the room. Be careful if you’re trying to squeeze a lot of people into a very small room.

Bad policy

I don’t know if this is a Novotel or Expedia policy. But when I checked out I received no paperwork, receipt, documentation of any type that I had been there. I found this very frustrating. Anytime a business transaction takes place I want documentation of it. Novotel would not even tell me what was being charged to my credit card.

Nice chain-style hotel

Well-located, convenient to walking around in downtown Ottawa. Easy to walk to the market, Art Gallery, Parliament. Hotel has an environmental focus and comfortable minimalist look (e.g., bamboo-lumber floors) but is basically a nice, mid-level chain hotel: nothing special. I’d definitely stay there again.

Nice Hotel, Great Location

The Novotel is a nice hotel, the staff were accommodating and pleasant during my 3-day stay, the bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable. I would stay there again.

Low expectations satisfied

The Novotel is not "at" the Ottawa Congress Centre as some descriptions have it - instead, one must cross a street and go through a shopping mall to get to the Centre. This is a factor to be considered when dragging boxes for exhibits or presentations through the rain. I booked this hotel with low expectations, a clean room for the night. That’s what I got. Other than that the hotel has dreary common spaces, efficient service, small rooms and that’s about all. It has an annoying emphasis on automatic charges for touching things in the minibar or picking up water bottles offered for sale in the room, which are displayed on a shelf in a basket rigged with sensors that charge your account when the bottle is picked up. So don’t pick them up to take a look at what they are! As a place to sleep, fine.

Traveler's tip on dining

I tried dining at the nearby Westin. Avoid the "Caesar" salad as it is the weirdest blend of materials I’ve seen, more like an odd Cobb made with dried Havarti cheese and synthetic bacon bits than a Caesar.

Good location, set up for business, comfortable and clean

Good location in downtown sector close to restaurants and business. Hotel recently renovated and updated. Do not have wireless in rooms, only in lobby, but broadband cable worked ok. Otherwise rooms are comfortable and quiet with updated frunishings, including LCD TV, and amenities.

Good Value in Downtown Ottawa

Novotel provides a nice, comfortable room for a good value in downtown Ottawa. We were able to walk to the Market, Museums and to Parliament Hill. Hotel restaurant provided a very nice breakfast buffet, with excellent pastry. Our only complaint was that our room seemed to be overly warm and we had to open a window to keep it comfortable. (Outside temperatures were 35-45 F)
