We had a great time

This was my second fall trip to mackinac Island staying at Mission Point Resort. Everything was very good, although I was disappointed that they no longer sold gelato at the snack bar.

Great Time

We only stayed at Mission Point one night. We wish we would have spent the entire weekend there. There is a lot to do and see on the island. It was really worth the trip!!

Best value on the Island.

I have visited Mackinac Island a dozen times and this is the first staying at Mission Point. Best value on the island with nice restaurant, bar, store. Check out the Tower, great views. Went in late season so taxis went readily available but the walk is simple to town. I’ll go back and would recommend.

Takes you back to the easy days of long summer vacations

Although the facility is in need of some additional maintenance(ie, carpet in hallways is very worn, the bathroom plumbing "whistles" when the shower above your room is turned on, etc.), the room was clean and large enough for the two of us. The property itself is rather sprawling and we really enjoyed the grounds. The location is also away from the hustle and bustle of the shops, which is nice.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure to take advantage of the various activities that the resort offers to its guests.

Would stay at a diferent hotel next time

Beautiful grounds and impressive main building otherwise it was far enough out of the happenings that it required a 10.00 carriage ride each way. There was noone there to meet us upon arrival and when they were called said it would be twenty minutes or longer.

Lovely slice of the island experience :)

Mission Point is a lovely retreat with a nice ’Mackinaw Island’ flavor. The property is expansive and nicely terraced and landscaped. The inside was a bit dark and had a ’cavernous’ feel but that may have been because we were there on ’off’ days and it was pretty empty. The view of Lake Huron was lovely. The food was absolutely delicious.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure you take the time to explore the whole island; even the more remote areas in the center of the island.

Beautiful Place

The place was beautiful and so were the grounds but they have no air and it was a warm weekend.

Traveler's tip on dining

Ate lunch at the Village Inn, good food and a very good waiter.

Friendly environment

We didn’t eat at the hotel, but dining areas were always "available". Staff was friendly, price was on the high side. Hotel did not have A/C and heat was on. We had to use fans that were in the closet, guessing they were there for that very reason. Heat made sleeping difficult.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Mackinaw Island is one of my favorite places, it’s magical.

Wish we stayed longer

We spent one night at Mission Point and wished we would have stayed at least two. We stayed in one of Mission’s buildings not connected to the main lodge but this was only a minor inconvenience. For the age of the hotel, the rooms were lovely but bathroom very very small. When we arrived we upgraded to a family suite and were happy we did. Fortunately we stayed Aug 31st when the weather was in the upper 60’s so the rooms stayed cool... wouldn’t want to stay here if temps in 80’s or 90’s since no air conditioning just window and ceiling fans. All staff were curteous and helpful. Unlike the B&B’s and other hotels (other than the Grand), we had taxi service and didn’t have to worry about the luggage morning of departure. If you plan to ride bikes, consider bringing your own, we will next time to save huge $$. Our favorite part of the trip was ride bikes around the island and would have done it several times over had we stayed longer. Take a ferry out of St. Ignace to the island (same price as Mackinaw City). It’s worth the extra 10 minutes to cross the bridge if coming north on I-75. The ferry isn’t crowded and the boat docks are easy to find.

Traveler's tip on dining

Dine in town to save $$. The hotel restaurants were overpriced for the quality of food although convenient.

So relaxing

This was my first trip to the island. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The room had a cozy lodge feel, but was an adequate size. The property is beautiful and the views are unbelievable. The main lodge has large fireplaces in every corner. We will book here again.

Building maintenance

The Hotel does not look like the pictures you see online or in the brochures. What you really see is an old Hotel that has been neglected. Though the room was very nice & the front desk staff was excellent, the appearance of the hotel was really bad. With the rates as they are, you do not expect to see a run downed building. Paint chipping, gutters rusting & hanging down & rotted wood. We had to listen to the rain drip onto the deck all night because the gutters were bad (no air - windows open). Pool area also needs some TLC.

Extremely unfriendly staff

The staff was extremely unfriendly. They checked us into a room that already had someone there! The next room had a bat in there and it took several requests and many hours to have come catch it. Overall it’s a very expensive hotel with very subpar staff.

Really Old, expensive, pointless hotel.

I had to stay here only because I was attending a wedding. However this hotel was worse than I thought. It is really old. There is really nothing there... Hotel itself is really expensive...

Our second romantic weekend at Mission Point

We have stayed there twice to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It’s a very nice resort. I would like to take my kids too because they have a lot to offer to families.

The transport of our luggage from the ferry to the hotel is so easy. We arrived to our room and our luggage was brought to us within 30 minutes. When we checked out, they took our luggage to the ferry so we could do some shopping in town. When we arrived to Mackinaw City, our car and luggage were waiting for us when we got off the boat. It’s nice to know you don’t have to carry your luggage with you to and from the resort!

Not that impressed.

The hotels’ lobby is very nice but once you leave that area things start to go down hill. The hotel looks run down and not kept up very well. The carpet is torn, the walls need paint and are paper thin so you can hear EVERYTHING!! All night long we heard pounding and talking. The window blinds were broken and the hair dryer didn’t work. I was not that happy with our stay and will look to stay at a diferent hotel next time.

Had a memorable time

It is my second time at Mission Point and will always stay there when I go to the island. I brought my kids this time and they commented several times on how everyone at the hotel (employees)treated them so kindly. The food was wonderful.......the kids even liked it!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Mission Point offers nearly free ($1.50)breakfast, lunch, and dinner to kids with the purchase of an adult meal(very reasonable priced too). This saved me about $75.00 per day for 2 kids. The food was good, nutritous, and came with dessert and a beverage!

I would never go back.

The maintenance was very poor. My toilet did not work. There was no cold water at the vanity sink. The handle for hot water in the shower had to be pushed in. When I arrived there was no screen in one window which was needed with no air conditioning. Toilet was fixed once yet broke down again the next day. The staff did not seem concerned about my complaint. The hotel itself is not clean in the hallways and stairs. I have certainly stayed in older rustic properties that were better maintained than this one. I would never go back there.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

There are better more affordable places to stay that are more maintained on the Island

Relaxing vacation

We enjoyed this hotel, although if you go in the summer, be aware there is no air conditioning. Fans available in the rooms were adequate. You can rent bikes directly at the hotel. There’s a great place to eat dinner outside just across the street and there are lots of areas to sit outside and relax. We would definitely stay here again.

Very Disappointed

The hotel was not terribly clean. There was thick coating of dust on some of the furniture. Walls paper thin. Could hear guests in the next room talking & using the bathroom facilities. Exterior buildings had paint peeling from the siding. Though we were given a 20 min. to be seated in the dining room/in actuality the wait was over an hour, though there at least three empty tables. The hostess did not seem to know her duties & was extremely scattered. When we complained to the front desk, we were ignored. VERY DISAPPOINTED, to say the least!

If you don’t have kids, this might not be the place to stay...

The hotel is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a great location, and you cannot beat staying on the island! However, while I thought Mission Point resort was a very nice resort, I was not aware that they cater to families. There were MANY children running around with their parents lazily watching them be noisy and destructive. Because of the focus on families and small children my husband and I will find other accommodations in the future.

Very Very Very Nice

We stayed at such an unbelievable price through Expedia. It was lovely and we enjoyed it tremendously. I would go here again in a heartbeat. Lots of things to do and you could stay onsite for days and have a great time. Moonlight golf, reduced drink prices, a movie theatre, shopping, gorgeous views, on and on and on. Would definitely recommend.

Good bargain, but not perfect.

When we went to Mission Point it was raining, so we went to the restaurant there, and we waited for an hour and a half to be seated, and we were never were. It was our Anniversary while we were there, so we were going to go to the Epicurean, which is their high scale restaurant, but, without notice, the restaurant was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday because they were updating the menu, so we had to try and make quick dinner plans. We contacted the front desk, which set us up to have a carriage ride to another upscale restaurant on the island, but it was closed when we got there! The concierge did not even bother to call and check to see if the restaurant was open! We ended up just having our Anniversary dinner at a local place. For the price, it was a nice resort, but it was by no means the type of service that we’re used to. We would probably stay there again because of convenience and price. They did offer some fun activities like glow-in-the-dark golf. Overall, we had a good time, but we were not completely satisfied.

Mission Point Resort - Ok

Friendly, clean plenty of amenities. Carriage rides to golf courses got to be a little expensive. 2 days on Mackinac would be plenty
