Great location, great room, great service @ not a bad price
Of the three hotels I stayed while in the Baltics this was my favorite. Start with the location. It is very easy walking distance from the main bus station, even with luggage. The bus to the airport is even closer. (a savings of about $20 each way). Better yet the hotel is located on a side street in the old town. Again easy walks to anything I wanted to see, lots of places to eat. Because it was on a side street it was very quiet at night, The room is very nicely decorated as is the hotel. The breakfast was excellent, fresh with many choices. Both the young ladies at the desk some some English and were very helpful (they provides a map and explained where the sites were and what bus to take to the airport). If I ever make it back to Riga, I will try and stay at the Boutique Hotel Viesturs.

Riga - Stockholm of the East
This hotel is centrally located and reasonably priced. During my stay, water from upstairs was dripping into my bathroom. When I asked the reception, they told me this was going to take more time to fix. But then I did not know why they put me there. The front desk staff was ok, quite Soviet. Helpful yes, warm, cordial no. Room was however quite nice, not at all what you would expect in a hotel in this price category. Breakfast was fairly good. I recommend staying in this hotel, nevertheless, I am sure there are even better ones. Having said that, the location, near the old city center (Unesco World Heritage Site) was superb.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The near by park is beautiful. Walking around the center of the city is fantastic. It pays off to take a bus tour, tickets are valid for two days. The war museum is very interesting but almost all the items have descriptions only in Lithuanian. Call in advance and get a tour guide, they are reasonably priced. There is a restaurant called Hospital which is funny and tasty. Everybody is dressed like a doctor or nurse.
