nice staff but stinky room (literally)
I liked the staff a lot, they were really super nice, but the room theyd booked me in had no working lights, and after several trips back to reception and being shown a room that was dirty, with unmade bed clearly recently vacated, they found a room that looked clean, but when I went to get into bed this god-awful stink rose off the sheets - it permeated the mattress, pillow & bedding. I was too tired to deal, so I just got in bed without taking a shower, kept my clothes on, and slept fitfully till morning. Other than that the room was fairly comfortable, but it was an unpleasant night. They didnt have it together.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The main campus of Queens University is gorgeous - lovely old gothic buildings, and Belfast is surprisingly close, you could walk it in 10 mins. There is a wonderful old cemetery near the college called Friars Bush Cemetery with a charming elderly guide, full of esoteric stories and myths about the graves. Also I liked the Botanical Gardens in the same area, small but really lovely and peaceful.
