A pleasant stay
The hotel is well located in central Dalian. Comfortable room (although the carpet was a bit shabby); nice bathroom. Very good value for money. Good selection for breakfast.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Right across the street from the hotel is a rather run-down looking shopping mall where there is a large number of shops selling Chinese arts and crafts.

Much Better than any Holiday Inn Express in the USA
This hotel is right downtown adjacent to a nice pedestrian mall that has a McDonalds and KFC if you want American fast food. Its also one block from historic Zhongshan Square, and just two blocks from a major department store. Nearby shopping otions include Gucci, Dior, and Louis Vuitton. Dalians intriguing "Russian Street" is just a 5-minute walk away. My non-smoking room had a closet with sliding door, an extra long countertop with built-in curved desk and office chair, climate control, courtesy bar, fridge, room safe, loveseat, and firm queen-size bed. The bathroom had high-end touches like curved opaque glass that let in light by day or provided ambient lighting by night. An electric hot water pot was useful to brew complimentary tea/coffee or the gift package of teas presented upon arrival. Mis-labeled as a "continental breakfast", the free morning meal is actually a splendid full-blown Western+Chinese buffet featuring made-to-order dishes, juices, fresh fruits and more. The evening steak/seafood buffet is very inexpensive, yet includes such goodies as prime rib, abalone, and draft beer. This hotel also has a separate seafood restaurant on site that costs a bit more. Their courteous bi-lingual staff provided me with a customized list of high-end Dalian restaurants, and also arranged a day tour of the area. This thoroughly re-modeled hotel is nothing like the Holiday Inn Express outlets Ive often stayed at in the States. Id give it a big thumbs up.
Traveler's tip on dining
--Some taxi drivers may know this hotel better by its former name (Tianjin Fandian)or "Tian Fan" for short. --The nearby Fishermans Wharf Restaurant offers elegant reservable private dining rooms with a tremendous selection of fine Chinese seafood at moderate (for the U.S.) prices. --For an even more deluxe dining alternative, try the Riviera for great French/Spanish/Italian specialties in a truly Mediterranean atmosphere. Perhaps the best western restaurant in Dalian.
