Could be better for the price
Great location-away from main traffic near Magic Mountain. Customer Service were not always present at the desk but were very pleasant when they were there. 2nd floor hallway smelled like smoke and it took 2 days of reporting to the front desk before it actually went away. Get a room facing the pool, NOT Magic Mountain or Newhall Ranch Rd. or near an elevator or vending machine. Walls are pretty thin in this hotel and you can hear traffic, etc. quite easily . . . although this won’t matter because they don’t have quite air-conditioners either! Keep the air-conditioners with the Fan in the on position because it is the start-stop clicking that wakes you up. Also, bring your own pillow . . they use down pillows that are way too soft and their hypoallergenic ones weren’t much better. Also, they need to change their mattresses or boxsprings! We had 2 different rooms and both ended up with squeaky beds. If you can sleep with squeaks everytime you move, then you might be ok, but not for us. Otherwise, a really nice pool and clean facilities!
Traveler's tip on shopping
No need to spend big bucks at their breakfast (although it was decent), just follow Newhall Ranch Road and there are small plazas at almost every corner with more affordable eateries.

A well-located hotel at the end of the Grapevine
We always stay at this hotel when we head south from the Bay Area. Its conveniently located off I-5, a perfect stop after the long drive through the Central Valley. It is clean and comfortable, although it was more lightly staffed this trip than we remember. The breakfast buffet is nice and convenient for travelers who want to get back on the road.

We enjoyed are stay in June 2009. Our room was very clean and the bed was awesome. This is a great hotel.
