Charming Hotel
Alex Hotel is a small family-owned hotel located just outside one of the gates to the old city. It is 10-15 minutes walk to all of the historic attraction. Rooms were very clean and not too small, service is great (not all of them speak English, but they do tend to do their best to help you). The hotel itself is very charming. Small, tastefully decorated, and intimate. They have a beautiful balcony that has a nice Tuscany view, and its great sitting there in the evening. Breakfast was very good. The pastries were especially great. All in all, a great deal for a very good price.
Traveler's tip on dining
We were recommended by a hotel staff to go to "Gano", a near-by trattoria. Although its the closest trattoria to the hotel that is in the old city, dont go there! The food is mediocre, at best. In fact, for good food, go outside the old city. All the restaurants inside the old quarter are simple tourist traps that serve banal, worst kind of Italian food.
