Old Howard Johnson’s

I thought I had booked at the one on Lucky Lane, but found myself on Route 66 next to the train tracks that are active day and all through the night. They wanted to charge me an additional $10 for the second floor. No breakfast included. They charge higher than the newer, nicest Howard Johnson’s

Traveling with Pets

One of the few places with a restuarant attached - front desk polite and helpful. Cat and dog liked it fine (for an extra $10/each)

Do not go there - overpriced for the quality of the room.

Absolutely not worth it. The walls are as thin as wallpaper, you can hear everything around. The rooms were not clean, even the sheets had stains. Not worth it. Go to the other Howard Johnson in town.

One sentence only. Go to the other Howard Johnson in town.

what they don’t say in the description...

1. It’s next to a very active railroad line. Train whistles and rumbles all night long. 2. It’s next to a country music bar. Steel guitar and drumbeats all night long. I guess it was a place to crash for the night - but my back is killing me today from the bed. Dead springs and no padding. Front desk lady was very nice, but this really wasn’t a place I’d stay again. For the price, there are 10 other places on the same street that are probably better.

Of two minds

On the one hand, it’s the Howard Johnson’s in Flagstaff, AZ. On the other hand, it’s the Howard Johnson’s in Flagstaff, AZ. We never saw anyone working there, other than a brief exchange with the woman who checked us in. Depending on your attitude toward utter neglect, this can be considered a positive or negative experience. I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant. It should be noted that the windows in the restrooms are frosted glass -- but if you open that window you’re basically looking into some guy’s back yard. His dog seemed nice, though.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

There is none. You are in Arizona. Get out of there!

Not impressed

When I arrived to the hotel they gave me my room key. Upon arrival I noticed a do not distrub sign on my door, but I figured the maid must have forgotten to remove it. Well when I opened the door, I realized that was not the case. The room already belonged to someone else and I walked in on them. I went to the front desk and they gave me a new room. I decided to check out the bathroom and found that the toilet did not flush, they did eventually get it fixed though. Also there was about a 1/2 in gap between my door and the outside. There were beer bottles and food under the bed and small ants int he floor. The bottom of the shower was about to give out, there was a bubble of water between the plastic and the ??? who knows. When I stood in it, it felt like standing on a ball, while trying to keep my balance.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The hotel is located less than a mile from the Mall

The people running it were great as well as the retaurant. THE PROBLEM IS IT’S TOO CLOSE TO THE RAILROAD TRAKES. A LOUD TRAIN EVERY HOUR ALL NIGHT LONG......NEVER AGAIN!

Train every 10 minutes!

The exterior was in great shape. Our deadbolt didn’t work.(which was kina scary) The room was clean. The bathroom was very old and needed maintenence and updating. Check in and check out was very quick. If you can’t sleep you can always count the trains instead of sheep. Because you have one going by every 10 min., not only the rumble but a long, loud horn.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Buy some ear plugs.
