What to expect: The main entrance to the hotel is from central Deauville, but there is a smaller entrance from the sea-facing side. The hotel, resembling an outsized Anglo-Norman manor, has sea-green half-timbering against white walls. Fairytale turrets are topped by handcrafted animals, from humpbacked cats to unicorns and monkeys. Inside, well-heeled couples, well-behaved children, celebrities (Michael Caine and Elizabeth Hurley have been guests) and, to a lesser extent, businesspeople can be seen in the soft-carpeted sitting area.
Amenity highlights: The hotel has a heated pool with retractable glass roof. Guests can perfect their tennis game on 10 clay and eight asphalt courts. The fitness center has a Turkish bath, sauna, relaxation room, exercise room, and massage services. The adjoining casino, accessed by a tunnel, has a large game room and a theater-in-the-round.
Insider tip: Designer shops—including Dior, Hermès, and Burberry—are arranged in a cluster just behind the hotel. During the sales, Parisians-in-the-know come to Deauville for bargains.

The Normandy Barriere hotel’s Children's Club (surcharge) with a trained, multilingual staff, is open weekends and during French, Belgian, and British school holidays. Wall coverings in some rooms have patterns resembling the beams of Normandy homes. Other rooms have striped or floral wall coverings. All rooms have satellite TV with a house channel, pay movies, and video games. Some offer balconies with wicker chairs. La Fermette - Charming, barnyard-themed restaurant for children. Child-height chairs and child-sized portions. Adults can accompany children (but not eat with them) or let the multilingual trained staff look after them. Open weekends and also weekdays during the Parisian summer-holiday period.
Bar du Normandie - Wood-paneled bar stocked with 140 whiskeys, along with Calvados, Champagne, aperitifs, teas, snacks, cigars. Paintings of racehorses on the walls. Open daily until late.
L'Avant-bar - Intimate spot with fireplace. Teatime features freshly baked pastries and choice of 40 teas. Live piano music Friday and Saturday evenings, nightly during holiday periods.
