Close to shopping and tours

I wasn’t sure what we were going to get by booking the hotel online, but I walked into the Savoy and was more than pleasantly surprised. It was clean and modern. The room was large and comfortable and the staff at the front desk were so nice. The hotel is about a block from Kurfurstendam, which is a main shopping street and also where you can catch the hop on hop off tour bus, so it couldn’t have been any more conveniently located. The only minor draw back to the hotel is that there is a smoking bar just next to the lobby, because of that you tend to smell smoke but it didn’t seem to carry all the way up to the fourth floor, which was good. I highly recommend this hotel for a quick weekend trip to Berlin.

Location,location,location

Great location and neighborhood. The room was very comfortable, although the step in the bathtub was quite high. Stayed 6 nights, always clean. Can be a bit noisy if you don’t close the windows at night. Breakfast way too expensive. Drinks at the cigar bar/sidewalk cafe can be too, but worth the atmosphere at least once. (Don’t say yes to a bottle of water with your drinks! Wait until you get to your room for your complimentary water.) Would recommend staying here.

Traveler's tip on dining

Mario’s, a restaurant down the block was wonderful. Coffee at Reinhardts in the evening is great for people watching.

Satisfactory Hotel

Savoy Hotel was a satisfactory hotel. From the photos on-line, it appeared to be a "boutique" hotel with a good rate. I would have preferred to stay closer to the main attractions of the city such as the Brandenburg Gate, but the rates at those hotels were much higher, and some were not available. The Savoy didn’t have a take-out service for coffee in the morning. They only offered an expensive, full-service breakfast. I would have preferred to have the option of a croissant and coffee.

I used the metro system with an all-day pass to get around town which was not that expensive. The walk from the hotel to the station was about two blocks. Berlin requires a lot of walking to see all the sights. Bring comfortable walking shoes.

The Savoy is a comfortable older hotel near attractions

The Savoy is conveniently located on a side street between two major thoroughfares near the Gedaechniskirche and the Zoologicher Garten train station. One can easily and quickly walk to nearby shops, restuarants, and theaters. The fine dining hotel restuarant is rather expensive for daily use. The Superior Room was clean upon arrival and kept immaculate with a surprisingly large bathroom. Received a dark chocolate and a free bottle of mineral water every day of the eight day stay. The room had no air conditioning, but did offer large windows facing the street. Noise was a nusiance on warmer days in July 2009 with the windows open. The Savoy is truthfully a four star hotel worthy of a return stay.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Walk to nearby restaurants and bakeries for meals. The Savoy’s hotel restuarant is excellent, but well beyond the average traveler’s daily food budget. There is a wonderful backery half a block away where a simple breakfast with coffee is quite reasonable. The area has many restaurants which are very good and offer street seating.

Excellent Location

The Savoy was a fine, small, clean hotel that is located near the central transit area by the Berlin Zoo and also within walking distance of a number of attractions. At a good price, we didn’t mind the lack of a view from our room facing an inner courtyard.

Great location, but eat elsewhere!

The room was fine, the service was fine, the price was right. Walk part of a block down Kantstrasse for bus X34 or M49 to Zoologischer Garten, where you can get anywhere else in Berlin.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Except that breakfast was not included and costs 22 Euros! We found BagCo down the street on the corner of Kantstrasse and ate there every morning--great coffee, pastries, fruit and yogurt, etc. There are places to do dinner in the neighborhood too.

Savoy was wonderful

We are return visitors to the Savoy Hotel Berlin and had another very good experience during this latest trip. Upon our early arrival our room was not ready and the front desk staff very politely asked us to wait and offered us tea and coffe, which came promptly. Then, only 10 minutes into the wait we were given our room keys and the luggage was brought up. We had been upgraded to a better room to make sure we won’t have to wait that log. This room was gorgious with views to the garden and a very pretty, big bathroom. The staff, service, and product at the Savoy Hotel is excellent and we would always recommend this conveniently located property to fellow travelers.

Savoy - comfortable but some renovations wouldn’t hurt

Stayed 2 nights Apr09 in a "Junior Suite". Despite appearance of hotel photos, living room of suite is open to bedroom (no wall), so it’s not possible for one person to sleep while the other watches TV in the living room. Also, no TV in bedroom. The beds are very comfortable at least, and a huge bathroom. Everything was very clean. The closets/night stands look outdated and a coat of dark stain would be a huge improvement. The in-room safe was too small to hold my laptop - sigh! They have safetey deposit boxes in the lobby, but I’m not sure if they are big enough to hold a laptop... usually not, so I didn’t even try. The breakfast is too expensive (I think it was per person, so we had a great breakfast at a bakery 1/2 a block down the road for about 3-4 Euros per person. THe restaurante did offer a very reasonable lunch though (Mon-Thu) for 14.50 Euros which included an appetizer, main course, dessert and coffee or soda. The seatee (kind of like a miniture couch) was like a hard wooden bench that had been covered in fabric - can’t sit on that for more than 10minutes. Free internet available if using the 1 PC in the lobby, but the network connection is slow as molasses. Due to that, I decided not to pay for internet access in the room as I can’t deal with such slow speed. The doors to all of the rooms and suites must be the original doors. If they would replace these, the initial impression of the hotel would be much improved.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Shopping: the great KaDeWe department store - the 6th floor food department is a "must see". Even closer: famous memorial church ("Gedachtniskirche"). One block from "Bahnhof Zoo" train station: subways (U-Bahn & S-Bahn) - a major interchange of all lines and very convenient to get anywhere. Also, many bus lines start/stop here. The 100 bus starts here and goes along the most scenic route in Berline and stops at all the sights you may want to see - very convenient!

Great location, nice hotel, good vaule

I stayed at the Savoy for 4 nights in April’09. I found the accommodation comfortable, clean and large for European standard. I traveled alone and had requested a larger bed and higher floor. I got queen bed on the top floor. The sheets were luxurious, though the room could use a good reading lamp by the bed side. I wish the spa would have wet sauna. The location is superb, close to major train and bus stations, and only 2 blocks from Kurfurstendamm. I highly recommend this hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Berlin is a great city to stroll its street and parks, take in history, visit museums(there are more museums than days in a year, it seems). Cruising the river Spree is relaxing, and they sell unlimited warm beer on the boat. Getting around is so easy, Berlin has one of the best public transportation systems in Europe. Buying a welcome pass is the way to go with unlimited public transportation and discounts on lots of activities.

Cute European Hotel in a Great Location

Pros: Fantastic location within a five minute walk of the Zoologischer Garten bus/train terminal and a five minute walk to the Ku’damm. Rooms are small, but clean and tidy with a nice marble bathroom. Cons: Hotel does smell faintly of smoke from the cigar bar. Proximity to the metro tracks and a main street means a fair amount of noise if you open the windows.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Catch the 100 bus from the Zoologischer Garten terminal to make a city loop that stops at many of Berlin’s main attractions - the zoo, victory tower, the Brandenburg Gate, Unter der Linden, and Musuem Island.

Good overall

Staff were helpfull. Room was a Jr. Suite. Large & comfy. Could use a few minor repairs eg. tile in bathroom. Girlfriend spilled on carpet and I made a "Clean Spot" getting it up. Carpet in woeful need of steam cleaning. Overall had a very enjoyable stay.

Gracious service

The manager was extremely gracious after not being able to give us 2 single beds the first night. He ungraded us the second night and gave us a complimentary breakfast.

Nice hotel

The Hotel is a pretty solid but not perfect choice of hotels. The location is very good, since it is a 5 minute walk to the S-bahn and U-bahn. It is also close to the Kudamm and its shopping. The hotel itself has a certain non-Marriott charm to it but it is well-maintained and in good shape. The 19 euro breakfast was good but you can do a lot cheaper at the train station. Luxurious but small lobby with a handy internet terminal which has a printer. The room itself was fine although the blanket on the bed was too short. The bathroom was updated although there were mysterious dials on the wall which I am not sure went anywhere. My room was shower only (be careful when you step out). The room itself was plainly decorated (you dont travel to stay in the room) with a couple of Chinese prints on the wall. The room was quiet and there was no cigar bar smell. The neighborhood itself is quiet...if you are looking for wild nightlife (East Berlin), this is not the choice. For kids it is good as it is close to the Zoo. The Sbahn is faster than the Ubahn when you are looking to see the major sites. (Dont get lulled into thinking you dont have to pay for the Sbahn or Ubahn because there are no turnstiles...I was stopped by an undercover officer who demanded my ticket and did not speak good English.) Berlin is a great city not only to learn about German history but American history and the Cold War as well. You will be better for the experience.

A solid choice in West Berlin

This hotel was in a great location- nice part of town -close to Metro, great shopping on K’udamm. Rooms were nice- spacious, nice amenities. Mattresses were horrible though- very uncomfortable, springs popping out in weird places. Time to spend some $ on new ones Savoy. Very helpful staff.

Excellent Location

The Berlin Savoy was really a nice place to stay for a leisure trip to Berlin. Train station is just blocks away as is the starting point for the city tour buses. Shopping and great restaurants are also just a couple of blocks from the hotel. Rooms are immacualte and very comfortable. Only thing missing is the coffee maker in the room but I guess they don’t do that in Europe. I highly recommend the Savoy and will rebook next time I visit Berlin

Very nice hotel

The hotel was in a great neighborhood and location, near to the U-Bahn and S-Bahn and to the KuDam. We particularly loved the retaurants along the Kantstrasse that were within easy walking distance from the hotel. The hotel personnel were efficient and pleasant. I would definitely recommend staying at the Savoy.

The Savoy has good value and location

The Savoy was reasonably priced for the quality, cleanliness, and excellent location of the hotel. It’s only a five minute walk from the Zoo Garten Metro Station, which easily connects to everywhere in Berlin.

Traveler's tip

Buy a Welcome Card at the BVG Desk in the Airport and ride all over Berlin for free. Take the X9 Bus from the airport to the Zoo Garten in 20 minutes.
