Fantastic Trip!!
We had a wonderful stay at the westin. It was off season so it was not crowded. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was good but pricey (which we expected for eating at the resort). We did get a renovated beachfront room so it was great to relax and sit on the balcony and look at the harbour. The beach was manmade so it wasnt as beautiful as the other beaches on st. john but the water was still clear and warm. I would go back but I would not go during peak season because it would be really expensive and there would be a lot of children.

Rhumb Lines was amazing and Jakes had great breakfast! There is also a grocery store(not mango deli) about 5 min walk from the westin were we bought beer, water and snacks!

Must return
The staff was a pleasure. The pool staff was a little stiff. The facility was wonderful. Maybe it was the location of my room. I was able to step out of the room to the pool, beach and restaurant. No hills, but the staff was ready to drive you up the hill. The westin ferry from the airport to expensive. The the public. But the ferry into St. Thomas, very worth it. Have money for cabbing, if you do not rent a car. Will return.

Ask specific questions. Like what does Happy Hour entail. There is a little refreigerator use it. Look a lot in St. John for shopping, make your decision after St. Thomas. Airline from St. Thomas does not charge for Alcohol, but other airports may

Expected more from a four star hotel
We spent two weeks at the Westin. The hotel was beautiful and the grounds well kept. However, when you stay at a four star hotel, you expect four star service. Well, you wont get that with their housekeeping staff. We never had clean towels - one night it took over two hours to get them. Clean drinking glasses and coffee cups in the room was another problem. They provide coffee/tea and the coffee maker, but what good are they without cups. There were days we had no toilet paper - now thats a problem. Towards the last couple days of our stay, I was waking up with welts on my legs. Some say it was sun flies - others thought bed bugs. I doubt we would stay there again.

Just Right
Great hotel for our family. Kids had great pool and beach + access to smoothies at pool bar. Not crowded since so much property. Well equipped exercise center (renovating spa while we were there). Scuba, snorkling, fishing, etc. were all available. One downside is that they close the beach rentals too early (4:00 p.m.) so you cant take out a Catamaran in the late afternoon - should probably leave open until 6pm. Would recommend rental car to get you to/from town for dinner and to beaches for snorkling. Staff was friendly and helpful. Easy direct ferry service between hotel and St. Thomas. Would definitely return.

First Time, not last
Was upgraded to 2 BR w/ loft. Great property. Great pool. Beach was great compared to California, but just okay with other St John beaches.

The wait staff were friendly, accommodating and gave great tips of places to experience!
We loved our stay in St. John. The hotel was beautiful and comfortable. Movies by the pool were a hit with great sound and visibility. The water excursions available were outstanding, and relaxing at the pool/beach was a pleasure.
Take several days to go to the beautiful beaches on St. John. Each one is breathtaking. The snorkeling is outstanding. Food, and bathrooms are available at each one.

Friendly but dirty
Had high hopes, all the guidebooks said this was the place to stay. Upon arrival, room was full of ants -- the sugar-ants on the ceiling, but more frighteningly, the hundreds of regular ants pouring out of the baseboards next to the dresser. Staff seemed unconcerned & unwilling to help until we pressed. After being up 22 hours straight on 2 hours sleep w/3 kids, we headed to dinner as they promised they would spray the room while we were gone & fumes would be gone by the time we returned with our asthmatic kids. Of course 3 hours later nothing had been done. Called desk again they said they were "out" of the ant spray, as we watched hundreds more come in. This time my husband went to front desk in person & asked to be put in another room. They claimed they were booked solid (in low season in bad economy, as we had passed by the empty pool & empty beach?? I think NOT!). After threatening to call Expedia, they suddenly "found" another room. This also had dirty bathroom and sugar ants in the bathroom sink, but at least no regular ants and it wasnt located on the first level. Overall, dirty place. Would not stay there again. Also, no warning signs at beach about jellyfish. Daughter was stung four feet from the edge of the water. No one except other guests seemed to care. Pool is nice, but no lifeguards, not supervised, and people leave their food and garbage there and it sits out all night and is not picked up until morning (gee, I wonder why they have ANTS???).

its ok i guess
The front desk and check in at the airport is incompitent. We stayed in an beachfront room w/double beds (kids) and it was over the kitchen for snorkles so we had huge roaches. The beach is terrible for snorkling. The prices for everything are too steep for the quality except cloes. Nice resort but for a better experiance go to caneel bay. No tv but its 1st class and has 7 beautiful beaches. Stayed at both and I know where Im going next time.
Its a short walk to the store from the hotel. Things are so much cheaper there for snacks etc.

The Westin - Needs Some TLC
Upon checking in we could immediately hear our neighbors, who had also just checked in, trying the door between the rooms over and over and over. Then they were yelling at each other. We went to the front desk and were told there were no rooms until the next night. As the resort was deserted, I found this hard to believe. The room was shabby. The carpet had bleach stains, I am guessing from the bathroom cleaner and the rooms were very outdated. The staff was indifferent to rude. The front concierge was arrogant. Prior to arriving we had received information on rental cars and the information we were given was very different. When I questioned this, he got very snotty and rude. On our last night a waiter talked at us for 30 minutes about economic issues with his family, insulting the work ethics of women in general, not exactly how we wanted to spend our last night at the bar. He was not picking up hints, so we eventually just asked for the check. The people at the Cruz Bay Sports shop were great to work with but we had to wait 3 days to go on our first Scuba Dive trip as they had chartered a boat to a large group, with no back up option for their guests. That was disappointing. The diving was fun and the crew great, once we got to go. They really need to work on their staff, the personalities. They seemed annoyed by the tourists, not great at a resort. Overall, they need to work on their customer service and do some updates.

Great Place to Stay
The Westin at St. John was a excellent place to stay. We had an oceanview room and never had a problem with maid service. The Heavenly beds felt great after a long day. There were plenty of golf carts carrying pepole from place to place. We chose to walk around the property. The staff was very friendly and courteous and always made time for conversation. I recommend this hotel and will return again.

Take the full day snorkeling trip to the Baths at Virgin Gorda and Caves at Normand Island. Cruz Bay Tours offers the excursion on Wednesdays and Fridays and theyre located on the Westin Property.

Tired think about Caneel Bay
Room had a ocean view but window which di dnot open and no balcony This property is in a nice location but getting old.....

Housekeeping was terrible
If you expect clean towels daily as well as your room cleaned by 4:00 p.m. dont stay here.

The St. John Westin Was Incredible!
The St. John Westin was a great place to stay. I stayed in a villa with my two teen-age kids; there was almost always a ride down to the main building and pool from the hillside villas and we got a real kick out of the golf cart rides. The pool and gas grill located by our villa was convenient and wonderful for dinner. Our full kitchen had everything we needed and the washer/dryer was an added bonus. The staff were wonderful; we have an incredible time and will likely go back again!

Perfect Getaway
Great place to go to just get away from the world. Friendly staff with everything you need right there. Just a short trip from pretty much anything you want to do. Definitely recommended.

Take the taxi ride into town to eat. Definitely worth the short trip and the food is better and more reasonably priced.

ONE OF THE WORST TRAVEL EXPERIENCES
I was locked out of my room for over 10hours. It took the hotel over 12hours to move my bags from one room to another. Hotel offered no late check out OR hospitality suite. Multiple roaches within room. Rude and useless frontdesk staff. Broken a/c unit in room never fixed. Internet connection was down. Made service was incomplete on multiple days. this is my short list.....contact me for the full details!

Inconsistent
Considering the price point, this is the worst hotel we have ever visited. We opted to cut our stay short and return to the Ritz in St. Thomas.

Go somewhere else unless you like the location and are ok with spotty customer service at the rates this property charges. Some employees were great and others were horrible.

What a disappointment!
We went to the Westin for our 20th anniversary. What a disappointment!!! You will not get what you are paying for. We had a beachfront from, which the location was great, walk out your door and the beach is right there. That was about it that was good about the stay. We had to call 3 times in order to get our air conditioning to work and it took a day and a half. The bedding and pillows were terrible. There were tiles falling off the wall in the bathroom. All the furniture and accessories are outdated. The hotel ferry to St Thomas is a rip off. When you land in St Thomas they charge you a $100/person to use the ferry during your stay. What they dont tell you is the ferry only runs a few times a day and ends around 5. So no dinner in St Thomas. The restaurants at the hotel are overpriced and not worth the money. The main restaurant is outside so you cannot get a relaxing air conditioned meal. Eating the breakfast buffet they cover the food with napkins because of all the birds flying in trying to eat the food. How nasty is that. And the hotel staff....unbelieveable, the front desk was never helpful. They wouldnt even change a $100 bill for me. What kind of hotel wont make change for you? Very unhelpful and inconvienced when you asked for anything. Would NEVER stay here again.

Best italian is Cafe Roma, it is around the corner from Woodys Bar. It is upstairs and you will miss it if you are not looking for it. Great food!!

Westin St John is a nice place to stay
The Westin in St John is a beautiful resort. The beach is really nice, the pools are nice, the resort is well maintained, the rooms are clean and the boat service provided by the Westin for a fee was very nice. We stayed in a hillside villa which had a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Both came in handy. The service at times was slow at the restaurant and since we were in a hillside villa we needed to rely on the shuttle service. Some of the shuttle drivers were really good and others acted like you were bothering them by requesting a ride. The gym was good and overall we had a really good time and would go back. Also our kids loved the water trampoline and the water bikes. The kayaks were fun too, all were included at no additional fee.

St. Johns best resort
My wife and I and two kids stayed at the Westin. We enjoyed our two week stay. Service was excellent, grounds were well maintained, accommodations were first class and views were spectacular. Lots of activities for the kids. All water toys (except motorized equipment) are complimentary. Ask for an upgrade!!! Rent a car for a few days and see the island--you wont get lost. Rent a dingi and see the island from the water. Snorkeling is excellent at Trunk Bay, Francis Bay, Watermelon kay, Cinnamon Bay. Youll go back to Trunk Bay again and again. Also take the half day snorkeling trip on the catamaran. Best money ever spent. Iguanas everywhere!!! The kids loved them. Feeding time is at 3PM everyday. Say hi to Sandy--she is the iguana that visits everyone on the beach. Food on the island is expensive so dont be shocked.

Definitely will go back
Nice ferry ride from St. Thomas to St. John. The grounds were beautiful, oceanview room with balcony was very nice, pool area and beach very nice, grocery store within walking distance, taxis to downtown area with many nice restaurants with good food. Went on nice snorkling trip. Not much in the way of shopping. We should have gone back to St. Thomas for that. Dont wait until youre on your way to the airport to shop - when you exit the ferry, you either get on a taxi to go shopping or to the airport. I cant wait to go back!

Cant Wait to Go Back!
Absolutely fantastic. Rooms were clean and well appointed, the resort staff was friendly and helpful...just terrific. Prices were a bit on the high side, and we had some service issues at the restaurant, but small quibbles really in the grand scheme of things. Wed go again in a heartbeat.

Honeymoon Relaxation
We had a beachfront room and it was centrally located - worth the extra cost in my opinion. The restaurants were a little pricey, but there are taxis available to take you into Cruz Bay for $5/per person each way, so add that into your dinner budget for venturing off-resort. Theres not a lot to do at the resort outside of the purchased excursions or just relaxing on the beach or poolside, so I wouldnt recommend if you are looking for an busy on-resort vacation. The island is worth exploring though - very lush and the most beautiful beaches are not at the resort. Nice shopping at Mongoose Junction and Wharfside. I would still go back as we really enjoyed relaxing after our busy wedding.

Take a short walk on the main road toward Cruz Bay from the resort and stop at the new grocery store for essentials for your room.

Wonderful service at the Westin!
We just got back from our stay at the Westin St. John and it was wonderful! We had problems with our flights and getting our luggage to the island, and the Westin took care of everything for us. They worked with the airline to retrieve our baggage and delivered it to our room. We didnt have to waste any of our vacation checking on the status or making trips back to St. Thomas airport. The restaurants, pool, and beach were great! Their ferry was so convenient - we were so glad we didnt have to hassle with the public ferry. We will definitely stay here again!
The Westin has their own ferry that will bring you right to the resort - they even handle your luggage for you and deliver it right to your room.

Great Resort
We had a great time at the Westin. Our beachfront room was exactly what we wanted. We were 15 feet from the beach. I would go back to the Westin in a heartbeat.
