What to expect: Located on the city's West Side between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, the Sofitel is across from the Beverly Center, anchored by Bloomingdale's and Macy's. Robertson Boulevard, two blocks west, is lined with ultra-chic shops such as Les Habitudes, Lisa Kline, and Ghost, as well as celebrity-magnet cafés, including The Ivy and Michel Richard Patisserie. The hotel caters to a high-profile clientele.
Amenity highlights: The Simon LA restaurant showcases modern American cuisine prepared in an exhibition kitchen. TV's 2005 Iron Chef winner, Kerry Simon, presides. Beneath a red glow, guests can also enjoy the hotel's trendy lounge, Stone Rose, which features private cabanas for an intimate dining experience. Celebrities have been spotted at the polished, newly remodeled gym, SO Fit, which encompasses more than 2,500 square feet of state-of-the-art equipment. Insider tip: Two of the city's most treasured movie houses are within a short drive. The Silent Movie Theater, 1.25 miles from the hotel, screens vintage silent movies with live musical accompaniment Wednesday through Sunday evenings. About four miles from the hotel, the Arclight features the geodesic Cinerama Dome, a retro-cool, fully restored and updated theater built in 1963.

All rooms offer signature SO beds: thick mattresses covered by featherbeds, lightweight down comforters, and an abundance of overstuffed pillows.
