would not go back
I found it could have been cleaner particularly my room, the furniture, I was afraid to use the coffee pot. when I went down to the coffee shop of the hotel i was ignored. I was also suprised to find that after i parked my car in a parking space out front they wanted to charge me extra for parking. if you ask me it is already overpriced compared to other hotels in the same area.

Its ok
The room was comfortable, good espresso bar in the lobby. The hotel is looking tired- particularly hallways with stains on the carpet and dinged walls. and the lobby has a peculiar smell. Having mandatory valet parking is annoying because it takes 10 minutes to get your car. Convenient location but wouldnt want to walk alone at night.

Good place to stay
York the Hotel is an older, centrally located place to stay while in Winnipeg. The rooms are nice but could use an update to the heating/cooling systems. We were on the 12th floor and slept with our balcony door open all night in order to stay cool. The best part of the stay was the dining in the hotel. We were treated to the absolute best French onion soup. Everyone in our group raved about it and agreed that it was the finest they had ever eaten. I would stay again while in Winnipeg and recommend this establishment.
Traveler's tip on dining
Dine at the restuarant in the hotel-youll be very surprised and pleased.

Not what I expected
Overall I would rate this hotel poorly. The rooms (I stayed in a club room) were all taken care of quite nicely and promptly but it was the overall speed of everything else that was poor. A lot of waiting, at the coffee shop, at the restaurant (really poor), at the main desk and the valet. Speaking of, I dont believe that you should have to pay for valet parking at a downtown hotel. I guess my expectations were high because for what I paid for I expected a lot more class and service. I would not say the club room is worth the extra expense. Also, a conceirge would be nice; I tried to find a golf course and got no help other than giving me some names. Again, for that price ....
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Dont eat at the restaurant that is attached to the hotel.

Customer Service Is A Big Deal To Me
The hotel itself is beautiful, extremely satisfied with the rooms and housekeeping. But I have to say the level of customer service is not even close to what you would expect for the price and appearance of this hotel. Twice I have stayed here and both times I have experienced the same thing. I have to say whoever the head of housekeeping is, he/she could teach the rest of the staff a thing or two. Her department seems to be the cream rising to the top at this hotel.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
We stayed over Easter weekend and found most shoppig closed on Good Friday and Easter Day. We were a little surprised by Good Friday, since we are American (we stayed in Winnipeg, Canada). The restaurants were open both days though.

Great place!
Very comfortable; friendly staff; valet parking; easy walking distance to skywalk system and The Forks; restaurant is expensive but food is good.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Must see - Manitoba Museum (within summer walking distance). The Forks and shopping at Portage Place are easy walks.

Satisfied overall
The pool & hot tub were out of service durring our 3 night stay. Restaurant Service is a bit slow, but food is good. Very clean and friendly staff. We were in a club room and very nice size rooms, plenty of room for 4 people.
