Recommended for Family

We stayed at the Novotel Waterloo over Thanksgiving; we have all good things to say about it. The rooms were small but very comfortable. No funky smells, very quiet hallways and tight windows kept noise out, clean in rooms and in the common areas, IKEA-like furnishings, comfortable bed, great tea kettle and tea in the room and small fridge for milk. Staff at the front desk were very good to us and helped us with maps, getting around with public transportation, restaurants, etc. Free internet in the lobby. Nice people everywhere. Located walking distance to Lambert North tube station, the London Eye, and Westminister Abby. A good launching pad for all of Central London.

I just looked at my credit card charges from our trip to London and can say that you can enjoy London on a budget. We took Greyline advice and used a private car for transportation to and from the airport. At Westminster Abbey try a Verger-led tour; the behind the scenes access and extra information learned was worth it. Check to see if the Royal Opera House is hosting any student performances called FIRSTS for edgy but affordable and high quality entertainment. The British Museum is incredible for families but would have been so much better if we had planned a private tour guide ahead of time. A visit to the Victoria & Albert Museum is another must. And of course, go to a play or a musical while in London. We saw Wicked when we have not been able to get affordable tix in NYC for years. Yes, you can enjoy London with a family on a budget!

Clean, comforable, great location

This hotel is in a great location for visiting London -- walk across Lambeth Bridge and there are the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, and Westminster Abbey just a short walk away. Stay on the South Bank and walk along the Thames to the London Eye and theatres and music. The room was very clean and comfortable. An electric kettle and all the makings for tea and coffee were provided, along with cookies! A very good (although a bit pricy) breakfast buffet gives you a good start to the day (not included in room price) and room service dinner was delivered quickly and arrived hot and fresh. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I was really pleased with my choice of hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Just across the street is the Garden History Museum, which has an excellent vegetarian cafe that is open for lunch and tea. I highly recommend it. You don’t have to pay to enter the museum to go to the cafe. The museum itself is quirky and interesting if you like gardening.
