great location inside city wall, nice, new property, helpful staff.
The San Luca Palace is a new property, clean, polished and without a trace of wear. Its contemporary with traditional decorative elements. Our room was BIG and beautiful, with nice furnishings. We peeked at several others and they were very small and dark so specify. The windows were tripple glazed. Our room was quiet!!! Easy access for buses the train or the city wall which is the best way to get around Lucca, as streets can be congested with people and saddly, with cars. Two years ago we hardly saw a car inside the walls, now they inch along pushing pedestrians out of the way. So we used the wall alot riding bikes provided by the hotel. There were no time limits on use of the bikes; a real luxury!!! They have 5, new and in good condition but pounce early to get one on sunny days. The seat heights were a problem and the desk had no tools so bring a wrench or befriend a hardware store owner if you want the bikes to work for you. Breakfast is lovely, even lavish and the staff professional and warm, but housekeeping has no regard for the "do not disturb" sign entering at will, even after we complained. There is disability access throughout. The bar is cozy, puts out wonderful treats evenings, but the drinks are top dollar. Wonderful wine shops right across the street and the hotel provided glasses, ice buckets at no cost. We would definately stay at this hotel again!
Traveler's tip on dining
great resturants for every budget.Ristorante Giglio, good food,Bucadisantantonio(La Buca) great food and service, antiques,Gliorti Di Via Elisa (Cafe Elisa)casual, fabulous food. Also Di Leo, cramped outdoor dining, wonderful food.Mom and pop carry-outs, beautifull salumarias, small grocery-produce shops on every block are an alternative to resturants.
