Free Internet: When It’s Not A Good Deal
It’s nice that the Steigenberger (as well as other hotels) provides free internet use, but it unfortunately includes free use by children who monopolize the two available computers to play games. Unless there are also computers that are off limits to children, the prospect of free access can quickly lose whatever appeal it might otherwise have - in which case hotels would do better to charge for time. Internet access is perhaps more important than ever for business travelers and those traveling by air. Check-ins, boarding passes and seat selections are now routinely made online, but boarding passes are not available for printing until 24 hours prior to flight time. This is something that will only grow in importance over time.

Teutonic Excellence
A hotel predomantly frequented by Germans. Conveniently located a stone throws from the Kudam and very pleasenty situated in front of a quiet square - Los Angeles Platz. Refurbished rooms are comfortable, very clean and pleasant, albeit erring on the compact with +- 28sq.m, less than expected for a 4/5 star hotel. Ceilings are on the low side, a bit oppressive as you walk down corridors. Service is adequate but not exactly plentiful in most quarters. Got a fantastic summer special that included full breakfast at a very competive overall rate, through Expedia. Highly recommended if you are looking for an american style hotel

Get an executive room which, for a few pennies more, affords you with breakfast, evening snacks and free drinks.

Peaceful Oasis in West Berlin
The Steigenberger is a wonderful hotel: peaceful, with outstanding service (everyone is friendly, without overdoing it). The food is great -- breakfast is perfect and the snacks provided to those staying in the executive rooms are great. The pool and sauna provide a great space for relaxation -- and the hotel’s proximity to the Zoo is convenient for runners (there are great trails in the park around the zoo). When I need to be in West Berlin, this is by far my favorite hotel.
