Clean, Comfortable and Convenient in Sorrento

Our experience at the Ulisse was excellent. We discovered it in Rick Steves’ guidebook, who described it as "more of an elegant four-star hotel than a hostel" and a "flat-out incredible value." We traded personable and helpful emails with the English-speaking desk staff. Once there, I saw the staff and duty-manager go out of their way to assist guests with questions, directions, excursions, etc. We took advantage of the optional breakfast (which was more like brunch), including a few meats and cheeses, a variety of cereals, fresh and prepared fruits, cakes and breads, good juices and delicious coffee and hot milk. The spacious dining room was uncrowded, relaxed and quiet -- a good way to start a day. The Ulisse is an immaculate, upscale hotel with spacious common areas and many amenities. We especially liked the airy foyer, where we occasionally carried our glass of good but inexpensive wine from the bar to sit and people-watch (and smoke). Our room was the largest and most modern of all the moderately-priced hotel rooms we stayed in on the Amalfi Coast. The private bath was particularly larger. The room’s large balcony (with table and chairs) gave a great view and sounds of a waterfall after a rain. The Ulisse is located just a 15-minute walk from Sorrento’s train station, and you’ll walk right through Sorrento’s central plaza, with occasional signage for the Ulisse. We heartily recommend Ulisse Deluxe Hostel, and hope we can stay there again.

Fantastic deal

The only thing "hostel" about this place is the price! My private room was lovely. It’s like a 4-star hotel with marble floors, nice decor, professional staff, and sizeable bed/bathrooms (even by American standards). I highly recommend this place, but note--there is no ocean view and it’s a 5-10 minute walk (mostly level, slight incline) between the hotel & town center.

Much, much nicer than your average hostel

Highly recommend Ulisse Deluxe Hostel if you’re looking for a very nice place to stay in Sorrento at a reasonable price and are willing to walk five minutes to get to the center of town. Our room did not have a view, but it was new, clean, with a comfortable bed and a large bathroom with all the amenities. Inner garage parking space is limited. We needed a clerk to move other cars before we could get our car out of the garage. We did not try parking at the Ulisse Car Park next door; that may have been a more convenient self-park option.

Traveler's tip

Driving directions: From the main road, look for signs for Ulisse Parking or Ulisse Car Park, not Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. Coming from the east, take a right turn off the main road, Via degli Arani, when you see the Ulisse sign, then bear right almost immediately to get to Via del Mare and the hotel.
