Sadly, Ho Jo’s is Dead!

I really have a high threshold of tolerance for hotels and motels that are not top of the line but this one really did me in. The room was so dirty and in such disrepair, we had to call someone to come up and clean the bathroom before we even could use it. There was a large brownish/red stain on the wall that we still canit identify and in the middle of the night, someone was banging on the door. It was really bad and I feel badly saying that because Ho Jos is a part of my youth and I have fond memories of the chain.

NO way! Dont’ stay!

I already wrote a previous review. Only stay here if you are really desperate.

Marginal service in a bad situation

We picked this hotel based on its low price and location. Our first day there was fine; the lobby and our room were basic but clean, the free continental breakfast was pretty good, and the wireless internet worked well. Unfortunately, the next afternoon Cincinnati was hit by a hurricane which knocked out electricity to the entire area. Given the extraordinary nature of the situation we knew we’d have to adjust our expectations but finding out that there was no backup power for the emergency lights was a definite disappointment and trying to navigate our way out of the hotel in pitch black corridors was a challenge. After at least four hours without power the management located a generator to power the emergency lights in the hallway but there were no emergency lights in the lobby or rooms. Upon returning from buying ourselves flashlights we found the front door locked and a sign saying the hotel was closed. Eventually someone did come to let us in and after 24 hours the electricity came back on but the front desk was deserted for the remainder of our three day stay. Obviously our experience was not typical but it was surprising that there was no emergency power source in place and that at no time during the subsequent two days did anyone at the hotel make any effort to address, much less improve, the situation.

Not impressed

It was not as clean as it could have been. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we stepped into a big pile of chicken bones. The pool was green and looked disgusting.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE

They gave me a room that already had someone in it.Then gave me a room with no towels and made you go to the front desk and get them your self.

Horrible

This hotel was completely nasty, with trash everywhere, the room was dirty with rags around and the toilet was taken apart. We could not even stay here it was that nasty. Not a good part of town either.

Bring your own utensils and dishware!

Not what we thought. They did not have any cups, plates or napkins for breakfast. We asked for an extra blanket, received two sheets, they didn’t have any clean. We had to call from our cell phone to get someone to come to the front desk - which was a long distance number.

Check out the address before booking. Not a nice neighborhood after dark.

the price is right!!

A variety of resturants close by.The receptionist in front very professional.Grounds decent.The one negative about the hotel was my room was next to employee laundry area employees should not be allowed to smoke in that area.Overall the facillity was worth the short stay.

Poorly maintained

Hotel is understaffed and poorly maintained. The continental breakfast was not replenished sufficiently, requiring us to go out for breakfast. Although our room was designated as non-smoking, the common areas strongly smell of cigarette smoke.

The only redeeming feature of this hotel is the low price.

Will not return to this hotel

Room smelled badly of cigarette smoke. You had to go to the front desk for soap. Did not replace towels with clean ones on the 2nd and 3rd day. When I requested towels I was told I could go down to the laundry room and ask for more. Continental breakfast consisted of prepacked rolls, pop tarts, and muffins. Nothing fresh. The orange juice machine was broken. No butter or jam for the english muffins.

Not impressed either

Cincinatti is a fun town to visit, but this hotel is located in a dumpy part of town and was a let down since you would think a hotel in this price range would have been a little better. I thought i’d try this hotelm because it had a special rate. win some lose some. The service was poor and the employees seemed constantly on smoking breaks. Apr. 2007

try Teller’s in Hyde Park for a drink or they have a fantastic brunch.
