What to expect: A Pacific Northwest landmark, this hotel was built in 1909 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Remodeled in 2007, the hotel offers modern conveniences amid historical ambiance. The hotel added a west wing in 1923 to house the Portland Elks Lodge. The west wing takes its architectural cues from the Farnese Palace in Rome. Design incorporates a bell theme, visible in various parts of the building.
Amenity highlights: Complimentary wireless Internet access is available in the lobby and at a business kiosk. A restaurant and bar are on site, with 24-hour room service.
Insider tip: The hotel is directly across the street from the Galleria, which is the new home of the Western Culinary Institute. The institute offers two on-site restaurants operated and staffed by the school. All menu items are created by instructors and students from the school. Bleu, the formal restaurant, serves lunch and dinner, while Café Bleu is an upscale patisserie.
