Good hotel, but a noise problem
We liked the location and view of the sea. Castelammare del Golfo is a town in a good location, with wonderful restaurants with good local seafood. The one problem we had with the hotel was that it fronted on a piazza that is a gathering place for young people, who zip in and out on their motorscooters and motorcycles until late at night. Saturday night was the worst, with the blasting music from a dance-club on the piazza going until 4:30 a.m. Nevertheless, we liked the town and hotel well enough to recommend staying at Al Madarig.
Traveler's tip on dining
Although there are very good restaurants down at the jharbor, there are also some very good smaller places on side streets that cater to locals rather than tourists. We found these more satisfying and cheaper.
