no complaints

This hotel has very up-to-date decor, is clean and had everything in working order. Limited Sky-TV channels, but I didn’t go to NZ to watch TV. No night disturbance at all from either inside or outside the hotel. I would certainly stay there again.

Great hotel for the price

Very nice hotel for the price. Only complaint was that you had to put your room key in a slot in order to turn on the lights, so it was easy for you to leave your key in your room when you left

A Great Buy for Auckalnd

We were THRILLED with our stay at the Auckland City Hotel where we found our spotlessly clean room most satisfactory. The staff, especially Alfonso, the day manager, helped us with all our questions. Each day our room was cleaned, it was perfect. No cutting corners here. The bed was comfortable and there was no street noise though we were on the back of the building. Yes, there is a mission across the street but it posed no problem. It is just a couple blocks, down hill, to the Sky Center bus stop and you can go all over the city from there. Yes, there is a hike UP the hill with your luggage if you take the bus from the airport and this is fine if you have rolling bags or a backpack. If it is a concern for you, you can always take a taxi. This is our second time staying downtown in Auckland and the Auckland City Hotel was the best by far!

Good location, clean rooms.

Note that parking is not free! Its 25$ per night. But the rooms were clean and the location is excellent.

Beautiful, but full of surcharges

Service and amenities were all excellent. Just beware the internet cost per ady and parking fees could be more than your whole room!

Great place, great location, comfortable, and a great deal.

Had a great stay. It was super cheap through Expedia. It had a good location within a short walking distance to the Sky Tower and most of the City Center.

Terrific Auckland Hotel

The Auckland City Hotel was perfect for our trip. It’s location was centrally located. The service was friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We didn’t dine at the hotel, so I can’t comment on that aspect. All in all, terrific hotel for the price.

Small rooms. Bad area of town

We were very disappointed. The rooms are smaller than a Motel 6 and the area is not nice. There’s a homeless shelter and a liquor store across the street.

Neat and beautiful

It was better than expected; not that I expected a low-quality hotel but in the pictures didn’t look as good as it was. The beds were really comfortable, the TV was precisely what I needed and the rest of the amenities were good. Front desk service and overall service was great, and the people helping you out there were from all over the world, a touch which, for me, make it worldwide class.

Great Hotel for Summer

This is a very clean, friendly, nice basic hotel, but it doesn’t have central heat. Space heaters work very well, but I would save this hotel for the summer. It is in a great location.

Great Central Location to tour Auckland

I stayed here prior to a 66 day cruise, so I had lots of four pieces of luggage all maxed out on pounds. When the cab dropped me off, I was put off by the stairs up into the hotel, but a staff person quickly came out and assisted me. There is a ramp over to the other side of the door, but I didn’t see it. The cabbie really had to go slow so we didn’t miss the entrance. Internet price was high. I didn’t like the fact that it was $10 for 2 hours (all in one sitting). At the Sky Tower, people were sitting outside on the street benches with their laptops. They said you had to pay outside too. No free WI-FI in New Zealand. The room was clean, had all amenities I could want. It cost $15NZ to go to the pier due to the one way streets. It is only about 6 blocks walking. Close to lots of restaurants and the Sky Tower which has movies and a casino as well as the revolving restaurant. My luggage was stowed while I killed time between check-out of the hotel and check-in at the pier. Again personnel very pleasant. New Zealanders do not tip. I was amazed when the staff refused tips. Refrigerator was a plus and I was able to borrow a converter plug from the front desk (nominal fee charged to room and then reversed when I returned it). Definitely would use this hotel again should I stay in Auckland.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Purchase the airport bus from Expedia as it was a long way to city. With so much luggage and being a zombie from 2 days of flights, I took the bus to the route end at the ferry terminal & got a taxi parked nearby. I purchased a two-day hop-a-bus ticket from Expedia, but their voucher gave no indication of this. I enjoyed the zoo immensely. The Kiwi nocturnal house had a Kiwi bird there doing his thing. Having been to Antarctica, the Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World was an excellent duplication.

Unbelievable value for this hotel

Hotel is in great location. We were upgraded to a suite room free of charge though we did have some communication problems with the staff (receptionist had poor English). We didn’t realise they were charging us for an early check-in. Food in cafe is delicious! Internet is way too expensive. All in all would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.

Very Nice Hotel

The Auckland City Hotel is clean, modern, and in a great part of Auckland. It is walking distance to restaurants, busses, the casino, and the pier. The restaurant isn’t much to get excited about but there are great restaurants for dinner and Sunday Brunch down at the pier which is a short 10 minute walk away.

Traveler's tip

When you first get to the hotel you notice that is is surrounded by apartments, and it appears to be on the edge of a seedy part of town. I walked all over this part of town and although the neighborhood seems a little scary it really isn’t...it just appears that way. In reality it IS a great place to stay, and I plan on staying there again.

Unbelieveable value

Room was very comfortable and kitchenette offers opportunity to dine in, tho there are excellent restaurants in walking distance. Location couldn’t be better. Shelter across the street presents no threats whatsoever.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try Burger Fuel for quick, cheap snack, or Ravi for great Indian food.

One little complaint...

Hotel has nice modern decor, and is in a fairly good location. The only thing that bothered me was the portable air conditioning unit. It was loud, and took awhile to cool the room down (since it was placed in the middle of the room, the hot air would go into the walls instead of out the window).

Internet service

I am very disapointed with the internet service in the hotel cause i have paid 3 time for 24 hours and I was able to use my internet only for less than 2 hours one time it was only for 17 min they told me they will not charge me for internet but they did they should change that policy that they have about internet cause not many people like me know how much is 100 mb and for that amount to last less than 2 hours over all I was happy with the hotel

A very nice place

This hotel is very nice and clean. The only problem we encounter was a safe that wasn’t working and the staff wasn’t able to fix this problem in 10 days :-) and the Internet rates are just absurd. If you use Internet daily you can pay more than 150$ for a moderate use. Other than these things, a very nice experience and a safe hotel to stay in.

Fantastic!

This is a great place to stay in Auckland’s CBD. The rooms are extremely well appointed and it’s walking distance from major attractions. Also, the hill up from where the airport bus drops you really isn’t bad at all, we walked it with two toddlers and several suitcases. We stayed in a duplex and a kitchen, and got an amazing price on expedia. And even though on expedia the price was only for two adults, when we arrived with four adults and two kids they didn’t charge us extra. I would definitely stay here again!

Good Hotel

Hotel just across the street from Sky Tower. Walking distance to city central. Reasonable price. Clean restaurant inside the hotel. Helpful staff. We left our luggages in hotel storage before checkin & after checkout because of flight schedule. The Window seal of our room probably broken, whistling noises were heard when heavy wind blew at night.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Free shuttle bus run within the city on a fixed route 7-5 daily. Shuttle from airport cost $37 NZD for two and to airport cost $32. Local buses can take you to the beach and to the top of mountain for a panoramic view of the city. only a few dollar per person.
