Bad Beds Ruined Our Stay

We were so happy with our room but after 2 nite our backs were killing us. The frame was concrete with a box spring on top....but no mattress. We could not enjoy the pool our surf together because the safe in our room was not bolted down and so we had to carry our passports and money with us. Maids were continuously knocking on door wanting to clean the room after they already cleaned it. The ice machines could not keep up with the volumn. Hotel staff did bring up waffle pads to put on bed but it was still very hard. The employees were very nice and tried to please us and always had wet towels waiting for us at the hotel when we came in all hot and sticky from shopping. Also enjoyed letting the baby turtles go into the surf .The activitie directors were always gone so we could not get anything extra planned,.

Perfect for some quality time with the family

This hotel is one of the first on this beach. The food, pools, beach, and activities for the kids (and overage kids) are very good, but the quality of the service and attention by the staff are what push the overall rating of this resort to "excellent".

Traveler's tip

If you decide to extend your stay (and you probably will) book the additional nights via Expedia and then work with the staff to keep your original rooms if you are comfortable there. Booking additional nights directly with the hotel can be considerably more expensive.

Great for family fun

We dont have any kids at the moment but if we did it would have made life pretty easy. There is a wonderful playground and activities for everyone all day long. Very family friendly hotel.

Very enjoyable and relaxing

The Dorado Pacifico has everything a traveler needs. It is centrally located, the staff is wonderful, there are activities for those who wish to partake, and enough lounge time for all.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Make sure you take at least one tour.

Wonderful

We were very pleased with our time spent at Dorado. The pool area was especially fun for our teenage boys. The hotel service was great. Our bathroom light was broken but shortly after our check-in, the staff stopped by our room to see if everything was ok. We let them know about the light and within 15 minutes there was someone there to fix it. I would definitely stay here the next time we visit Ixtapa!

Great Hotel and Beach

Our family stayed at the Dorado Pacifico the 3rd week of December. Our kids are 6 and 8 years old and they loved the 2 water slides. We all loved the proximity to the beach. We were pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel and the beach. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to extend our stay. We will definitely return to this beautiful site in the near future. A trip to the Isla Grande is a must. We all snorkeled and had a great time.

This hotel is family friendly and we felt very comfortable.

Been there 2 times already and have enjoyed them both.

About the only thing that we had a problem with was the first night the a/c did not work good, but the following day they moved us to a different room. The only problem with the new room was it did NOT have a king size bed, so they put the two full size beds together , it was a little awkward but at the end we had a great time and as always the staff of the hotel was GREAT, and we had a very nice time.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try Rubens Hamburgers which is right across the Dorado Hotel, in a little shopping mall, they are excellent.

Will stay at the Westin

The room (Junior suite) was great if a little ragged around the edges but it was clean. We did take coffee and condiments after reading previous reviews. the beach was nice but the pool was very crowded so we did not use it. It seems to be mainly for families and children. We would probably not stay here again.

Great location, Great value, Great pool!

This is the third time we have stayed at the Dorado Pacifico. This time they upgraded us to the junior suite and it had a fantastic view nice big room. We love the location and the pool is fantastic. We think this is a great hotel, reasonably priced. Great service, too! Buffet breakfast is great, the food in the restaurant is just ok. Would definately stay there again!

A GREAT PLACE TO VACATION.

THIS IS A VERY NICE VACATION SPOT. THE HOTEL STAFF ARE VERY NICE AND THE HOTEL IS KEPT SPOTLESS. THE OCEAN VIEW IS AWESOME. THE FOOD IS PRICEY. I WOULD SUGGEST GOING ACROSS THE STREET TO THE "CHILE BEAN’s" RESTAURANT. VERY GOOD FOOD AND CHEAP PRICES...ENJOY !

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

FOR CERTIFIED DIVERS: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DIVING IN ZIHUA WITH EITHER: CARLOS SCUBA; ZIHUA DIVE CENTER OR IN IXTAPA WITH AQUA PARADISE. THEY ARE ALL GREAT DIVING SHOPS.

Great value & service

This is a nice hotel, I WOULD stay here again. Its beautiful, with a helpful, friendly bilingual staff. Poolside activities and music get a little loud at times. The chair problems seem to be solved. Some folks griped about beds being too hard here, they seemed normal to us. My gripes: 1) No real wireless internet in the hotel rooms. You have to sit outside the room to get it. 2) Piano bar noise. Fri. and Sat nights, music can be heard all the way up from the lobby into your room. Its not loud, but can be annoying if youre trying to sleep. Bring earplugs. 3) The coffeemaker: I brought my own coffee & creamer. The hotel charges 30P for each coffee bag & for bottled water. Skip it, tap water is safe & tasted fine. 4) Storage space. The dresser drawers are small, some rooms have small closets (ours was Ok). Travel light, or you will pay the price for it. 5) We had a major problem with our room. The toilet busted, and poured water (NOT sewage) all over the floor. I tried to switch rooms but the hotel only had a smaller room, which I didnt go for. So we waited until they mopped the floor (with a towel - like I couldnt so that myself!), and turned in for the night. The next day we did get the room next door, so all worked out well. Outside of that, our stay went well. The pool is warm with fun water slides, the ocean wonderful with big waves (but not too rough). Surfers: best waves are at the north end of this beach. We had a great ocean view from the 15th fl.

Traveler's tip on dining

Believe it or not, for cheap, delicious dinners- Carlos & Charlies. I had green enchiladas (70P), my hijas had fajitas & quesadillas. Saw a sunset, walked back to the Dorado on the beach to work off calories. Filet mignon bargain- Italian rest. across the street (Rosellinis?), only 150P. Rubens burgers ($25 for 3 burgers & fries) was tasty. Dorados LaMar- good, but pricey. Try the Negra Modela beer there! Breakfast at Dorado- get French Toast, NOT buffet, only 45P. Avoid Chili Beans (bland).

Can’t wait to go back

Loved the stay. Turns out, it’s the same hotel we stayed in 21 yrs. ago but it is still beautiful. The fishing was awesome and so was the swimming with Dolphins. The beds could have been more comfortable but the activities out by the pool were a treat.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take an insulated bag with you and buy your beer across the street to take out by the pool. Try to book your excursions directly instead of going through the hotel. Eat meals away from hotel as much as possible.

Home away from Home!

In ten trips to Ixtapa, I have yet to find a negative thing to say about the Dorado. Ricardo, the front desk manager, will bend over backwards, to make your stay what you wish it to be. For the best views in the area, upgrade to the Jr. Suite.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

I/Z is the nuber three spot in the world for Sailfish! Our three days fishing produced seven Dorado, two Sailfish, one Blue Marlin, and several species of bait fish. Fishing in the area, is just plain Not To Be Missed! If your a first timer, or an old hand, a day out is well worth the price of admission.

Very nice hotel, very clean and well maintained.

Enjoyed our stay. Lots of activities. Security was very good. Room was comfortable and clean. View of ocean was good, although we were at the back of the hotel and the ocean view was partial. A room at the front would have made our stay more enjoyable. We were told that the hotel was only 40% full? What’s up with that? Also, they charge you for packages of coffee and you can’t hardly use the mini fridge because of all the high cost drinks (beer, liquor, juices, etc.) that fill it. Only complaint is the cost of food is very high, higher than very nice restuarants in the US. We were not all inclusive and felt we could get some lower cost eating at resturants accross the street, but not so. I believe the Mexican people think we have more money than we know what to do with and they’re pricing themselves out of the tourist market. Also the drinks at the hotel are watered down and very pricy. Almost as expensive as Las Vegas. I would recommend an all inclusive drinks option and lower their food prices or have advertised dinner/breakfast specials. We want the old mexico back, good eating, good bargains and their friendly service.

Traveler's tip on shopping

It seems that the Mexican shops are doing the same as the hotels and restuarants. They’re way out of line with prices. Everything we looked at was over priced and bartering didn’t seem to help. Take it or leave it. Save your money and buy their stuff in the US, its as good and cheaper.

Service was the best

The hotel is one of the older hotels in Ixtapa and could stand some renovating. This is at least the tenth time I’ve stayed there and the staff knows me well They attend to every need wonderfully. The food especially the buffet breakfast is wonderful and the staff could not be nicer.

great ixtapa location

Overall, the hotel was a great place to stay at Ixtapa at a reasonable price. The only complaint is that the hotel’s pool closes at 9 pm. The ocean view is pretty but the ocean is kind of rough in front of the hotel. If you would like to swim, you’ll need to walk to the left end of the beach where the Pacifica Hotel is located. The hotel takes newly laid turtle eggs for safe keeping and releases newborns. Really COOL.

Traveler's tip on dining

Hamburgers sign across street are charcoal broiled. Really good. Go to Ixtapa Island by Bus. Really clean and best snorkling. Ask at the restaurants and find Suzi. She will take care of your snorkling and grilled seafood:)
