Great rooms and Bad rooms

We had a travel agent book our first night here and as he had put us in this hotel we also booked another two nights with Expedia for the following week. The first room was way more expensive and nowhere near the quality of the Expedia booking. First was a small drab twin on 24th floor while Expedia put us in a beautiful new looking double room on 36th with a magnificent view. Great bath/shower, heated toilet seat/bidet. So be warned make sure you get a good room. Shinagawa is a strange area, only saved by the great train access across the street. In fact it does not even appear in the index of Lonely Planet Japan book. They tell me its just a business accom area. Restaurants were quite good at the hotel and the little coffee shop on the corner opp Train Station was great. Staff were very helpful organising a tour, minding luggage, and even helped with gluten-free food at buffet breakfast.

We only had about 5 words of Japanese but found everyone eager to help even to the point of enlisting others if they could not understand - SO just ask for help and alway start with "sumimasen" - "excuse me"

Nice Area - Convenient Location

this is a 3 star japanese hotel and as such is not a comfortable as higher rated units (but this is just life). the restaurants in the hotel are very nice. the immediate area is great (lots of places to eat and shop) and the train station is right accross the street so gettijng around tokyo is very easy. i will try and stay at a better (more expensive) hotel in the future but i booked this hotel on short notice and all of the other hotels were booked on some of the days i stayed. all in all not too bad but they tried to charge me when i want to check out a couple of hours late (not good form).

Awesome location!

You need your own map and plan your trip ahead of time! This hotel is at a good location because you can catch the train to the airport from here, the other bullet trains(shinkansen) to eg.Mt.Fuji, the subway & the JR rail lines. There’s also food in the area. The room is standard at the Annex Tower, nothing to be oOoOolala about but clean.
