Nice rooms, okay staff, off-putting location (at first)

I’ve never been to Bangkok, so I really had no idea about the neighborhood of this hotel. I picked it because of its location to Khao Sahn Road and other attractions I thought we might visit. We arrived at the hotel late, and felt a little unsettled about the location. We weren’t hassled however, as we made our way inside to check in. The next morning I realized that this was very much a tourist sort of hotel, and felt more at ease. The sunlight on Bangkok’s streets made the area less intimidating. In the morning you realized you were just in a regular Bangkok neighborhood. It was a run-down, dirty neighborhood, but I expected to see this. We were in Bangkok. There were vendors lining the street selling everything from fresh fruit to jeans to power tools. While the front desk staff was helpful, they were not overly friendly. That’s fine. The breakfast staff, however, was very friendly. The breakfast itself was satisfying. Fresh fruit, juice, coffee and eggs and meat choices. The room was great. Clean, comfortable, and spacious. More clean than most American hotels I’ve stayed in. Very pleased with this aspect. I thought the bed was a little hard for my taste, but that was the only problem I had with the room.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Khao San Road is a 5-10 minute walk away, so if you’re looking for more comfortable digs off the beaten path, this would be a good choice. There’s a 7-11 just down the street, so save yourself a few baht and stock up on snacks/beverages there, rather than dig into the minibar.

BUDGET GOES WITH IT

Boonsiri Place is a place to use as a room not as a comfort hotel to idle in since it has no facilities at all but cheap internet connection. Its location beats most of the super famous hotels as major attractions are at walking distance from it. Breakfast is light but enough for a touring morning to start. Local taxis and tuk-tuks can drop you off easily and Khao San is only 10 mins away. So if you are looking for cheap, clean accomodation in a top cultural area, choose Boonsiri and experience the buzz along the little nearby canal and alleys. Male staff kinder than female one.
