NIckel and Dime Trip
There are three words that best describe my stay here-"nickel and dime". They most certainly nickel and dimed me for everything from overnight parking to outrageous charges for simple WiFi internet access. Telephone charges were equally extravagantly expensive. They "forgot" to clean my room one day and when I mentioned it to the front desk, they neglected to address my concerns. In fact, they somehow "charged" me for overnight parking 3 nights when in fact I had gotten smart and decided to use the street parking adjacent to the hotel from 2000-0800 for free. Overall cleanliness was satisfactory. Food prices are, again, outrageous. For a simple ham and cheese sandwich delivered to your room, it would cost the same as a meal at a midscale restaurant in the US. The restaurant/lounge is filled with inconsiderate smokers, making any relaxation with a child or alone for that matter near impossible. Local teens having a party charged alcohol to various rooms instead of paying for it (this happened to a friend who was also staying at the hotel). The staff were friendly, warm and courteous. The room was OK, the local TV was limited to music videos, football reviews and kids shows. Access to the local Manchester activities was excellent, in that I could take my son to the movies or to find a pay phone or a McDonalds for lunch. All in all, the only redeeming qualities this hotel has is its location and its warm and friendly staff.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Dont use their parking overnight. Park in the street between the hours listed on the placard. Bring some easy food, especially if you have kids, like PB and jelly, crackers, juice boxes, etc. Dont access the internet unless you have to, and then try using the local internet cafes as their rates are much less expensive. If you need to take the Virgin "Fast train" get the 1 year family pass instead of a daily or one-time ticket. Search around for the best rate on currency exchange.
Comment from the hotel's management
Posted: 24-Oct-08Thank you for your comments, we can assure you that we have utilised them fully to ensure that our service retains its very high standard. With regards to pricing, at Marriott we offer a "fair rate policy", which means we make every effort to find out rates and prices to ensure that our guests receive a good all round package deal, current charges are in line with the City trend and in certain areas of the business our rates and charges are very competitive including the car parking charge and we are sorry that you had found them to be rather high. Smoking was not permitted in the Restaurant before the ban, however it was allowed in the bar/lounge area which also served food to accommodate all our guests individual needs, as was the case in most places before the non-smoking ban came into effect on the 1st July 2007. If you have any queries relating to charges on your account please make our receptionists aware as they are happy to assist with your queries and ensure that your bill is correct on departure.

Watch out!!
There are three words that best describe my stay here-"nickel and dime". They most certainly nickel and dimed me for everything from overnight parking to outrageous charges for simple WiFi internet access. Telephone charges were equally disgusting, with a single phone call running at 40 US dollars. They "forgot" to clean my room one day and when I mentioned it to the front desk, they STILL neglected to address my concerns. In fact, they somehow "charged" me for overnight parking 3 nights when in fact I had gotten smart and decided to use the street parking adjacent to the hotel from 2000-0800 for free. Overall cleanliness was satisfactory. Food prices are, again, outrageous. For a simple ham and cheese sandwich delivered to your room, it would cost approximately 18-20 US dollars. The restaurant/lounge is filled with inconsiderate smokers, making any relaxation with a child or alone for that matter near impossible.
