An Amsterdam Gem

My wife and I were impressed with the modern comfort of this classic older hotel. The concierge service was especially good and the breakfast buffet quite nice. Our only "knock" would be that the service in the Brasserie grill was not up to the otherwise high standards we experienced. Also, we were surprised to find that black pepper was not available, only white.

great location

hotel staff was very friendly. close to train station/and all other public transportation. close to dam square, red light, jordaan, and many other attractions. room small compared to US but still very comfortable and clean. would definitely stay here again.

Nice and convenient.

Extremely convenient to the central rail station -- which is very convenient to Schipol Amsterdam International Airport.

Great Location

A comfortable, well-located hotel with good service. Rooms were large and pleasant with good lighting. Our group of 9 were all quite pleased with my selection.

Nice hotel in historic center of Amsterdam

This hotel is a reasonable value for the money, but the rooms are rather cramped. The best part about this hotel is its location which is right across from the central train station and walking distance to many places of interest/restaurants.

Plusses and minuses

The comfort of the room is very highly dependent on the room location. First we had an inside room. The plus, it was quiet. The huge negative was it that it was unbearably hot (this on a cool Copenhagen day) and even opening the window would not cool it as it had no outside exposure. It was not possible to sleep in that heat. After the first night we looked for an outside exposure room and the ones in the front had high level of street noise. Finally we got upgraded to an outside exposure room at the back (and nicer) and that was great. Good location of the hotel.

One word Perfect & Great Location

Very nice hotel in the perfect location. Walking distance from just about everything. Staff was super nice and very helpful. Can’t wait to go back.

Centrally located, but not 4 star.

The hotel is very closed to Central Station and city attractions such as Dam Square and Red Light District. The staff is very helpfull and polite especially in reception and concierge services. However the Hotel is very old, the rooms are smelling and the furnitures are need to be renovated. The walls are extremely dirty. These problems can be tolerated in a low star and cheap hotel but not in a 4 star hotel. If you stay just one night in Amsterdam and want to be close to Central Station,it can be preferred but not more than 1 night.

NEVER HESITATE to book at this hotel!!!

Just amazing!! the staff is helpful , friendly and always smily!!!! this hotel in near to everything in amsterdam....perfect location ! the room is always clean. I can never complain! i would definitely book at this hotel again without hesitation!!!!

Location makes up for most of its flaws

This hotel has one of the best locations in Amsterdam. It is located right at the heart of the city center and just a quick walk to Central Station. The hotel itself is nothing spectacular. Rooms were decent and clean, but nothing to write home about. Front desk and concierge were courteous and helpful. Just don’t expect 5 star service. Good choice for a first visit to Amsterdam or for those who have a subsequent destination. Its proximity to the station and other areas of interest makes it good value for your $$$.

Great Location, fancy traditional look

Hotel couldn’t be easier to find. It is visible as you exit the Centraal station. It is a historic building so it gives you a feeling of authenticity as traveling through Europe. The restaurant is great for a dinner. As in many other places, the charge for the bottled water is ridiculous. We had a great stay.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Service on the trams is great. You can buy a ticket for 2.60 euros that will allow you a couple of HOURS of transportation. This means that you can have several rides of 10 minutes each during your stay until this expires.

The Victoria: a great hotel!

The Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam is a great hotel: directly across from the train station, in the heart of the city, close to boat excursions, indoor pool, great service, large comfortablr rooms... A very nice hotel! Food was expensive; eat in town.

Very nice hotel

Excellent location. Friendly staff. Comfortable and spacious room since we have an executive suite. Very quite. Excellent shower. Carpet seems worn out and dirty.

Fantastic!

Our family spent one week at this hotel in August 09. The location is perfect and the staff is excellent, especially the Concierges. We stayed in an executive room on the third floor 329. The room was large, bright and clean. When we booked with Expedia we made sure to include the breakfast. The breakfast is very good and there is plenty of variety. We received an excellent price with Expedia and feel that we got an amazing hotel at a great price.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Do your homework! Compare prices and ask questions. When we booked this hotel we called Expedia on the phone. Expedia called the hotel directly and made sure our reservations were just as we wanted. In this hotel ask for an Executive room and make sure breakfast is included.

Great room - up and down some stairs, and more stairs, and more stairs...

We booked this hotel for a one night stay in between visiting Utrecht and leaving early the next day for our flight to London. The wonderful location of the hotel (directly across from Amsterdam Centraal station), and the great value sold me. We checked in and were beyond thrilled to learn our room was located on the ground floor. Great! We had a ton of luggage and, considering my husband was recovering from a back injury, not having to drag luggage up a bunch of stairs sounded great. Well, we went to find our room. Up a few stairs, then up again. Then down several flights. Up again. Then WAY down, down, down some twisting stairs to a room that felt nearly subterranean. So, while technically the room was "on the first floor", we had to deal with several flights of stairs in order to get there. Other than that issue, the room, while small, was comfortable and, most importantly for Europe, had a full tub with stand-up shower. I would recommend staying at this hotel due to the location, but would suggest avoiding room 135.

nice location, cheaply put together, none of the doors close properly.

It’s conveniently located across from the metro station, and shops and restaurants are all within walking distance. The biggest problem is the beds, they are all concave in like a banana. We couldn’t get a good night sleep. Our backs (all four of us in two rooms) were all hurting by the third day. The other problem was, to our surprise, the doors didn’t shut properly. They look like an afterthought. The concierge and people at the front desk are very professional. But if the beds are not replaced, we will not recommend the hotel, since good sleep is essential to travelers. Otherwise it’s a nice place.

Very nice location

The best part of these hotel is the location, it is walking distance of many restaurants, red light district, and central station, you just cross the street and you can take the boat for the canal tours. If you take the breakfast buffet is very expensive 60 euros per person, it is good but no that good, but you can order in the cafeteria of the hotel a good breakfast for abut 10 euros and if you go out and walk 20 steps there is a nice cafeteria with english breakfast for 8 euros. The only things I didn’t like is that you can take the room until 2 pm, also the room (415) I got was very small and for some time because the building of the new metro the access in car is very difficult. Other than that is and excellent choice I would stay in the same hotel next time I go to Amsterdam.

Around the corner there is a shop that sales cheese, they have a tour to the cheese factory that is very good, there is several stores in these place one of the first ones they sale very nice gifts to bring home, so make sure you give it at least 30 minutes of your time to look around and buy some nice things at a very good prices.

Can’t wait to go back

Amsterdam is beautiful, and this hotel is in a very good place as a start point for AMS, and also for other destinations - Centraal Station is just over the street. Red Light District, Dam Square, canal excursions, city bus tour, a LOT of restaurants are just at your hand

Extremely nice and helpful staff

I stayed at the Plaza Victoria twice on business in July 2009. The staff, without exception, is extremely friendly, helpful, gracious. They allow you to leave your bags if you arrive early, and they serve delicious coffee in their cafe, and a breakfast that is large (sliced meats, an egg, good breads, fresh orange juice, strong and hot coffee). The strengths here are service, cleanliness and location. The two rooms in which I have stayed were interior rooms without much natural light, but good quality older furnishings, a small picture tube-style television, white-tiled bath with deep tub and plenty of hot water. The bedlinens are pressed and of good quality, with 4 large European square pillows and a fifth in the closet. This is a sprawling older hotel in a superconvenient location. I travel often and I was genuinely impressed by the kindness and efficiency of the employees at the Hotel Victoria. It’s a very calm, pleasant hotel made stronger by the training and professionalism of its personnel.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

You can walk to the the cruise ship terminal in about 10 minutes if your luggage is not too heavy. You can buy morning sandwiches and coffee in the food kiosks facing Centraal Station for a good, inexpensive breakfast. Internet access is quite reasonable in the cybercafes in the shopping area behind the hotel. Plan your route around the City and purchase a tram pass for 2.6 euros instead of cabs. It’s an easy system.

Great Hotel

Right in the middle of the action. Ever place u want to go is close. Central train Station, Dam Square, Red Light Square and shopping. Overall great hotel. Breakfast is great but get it at ck-in time, u will get a discount. Have Fun.

good location -Amsterdam

The rooms were large for european sizes. We had a triple room with three individual bed and room for a small couch. the air conditioning worked and the only unconfortable aspect was that the rooms are not sound prouf so you could hear other guests if they had their TV loud or when coming and going in the hallways. Breakfast was very good but kind of expensive as ours was not included in the room rate. The hotel restaurant for lunch and dinner is expensive and not that good but there are many other restaurants in both streets of the hotel. It is across the train station and thus very convinient if traveling in train.

You can walk from the hotel to the main plaza and from there to many museums and historical landmarks. Everything is at walking distance.

Fantastic Hotel close to Train Station

We were on the 1st Floor overlooking the main street. I had concerns about noise, but the room was extremely quiet. The breakfast was wonderful, and all staff extremely helpful. The concierge was friendly and able to suggest many ideas for interesting things to do. I would definitely stay here if I return to Amsterdam.

Somewhat average

Hotel staff were very friendly and courteous. I paid extra for a room upgrade but it still seemed a little on the small side and not a luxurious as I had hoped. Also my room was down a series of hallways which is hell trying to find when youve been drinking all night. Overall the hotel staff made it worthwile but I will probably try to find another hotel to stay at next time.
