Very Nice Honeymoon Experience

This was a safe and enjoyable honeymoon place. We arrived very late and found champagne in our fridge. We liked the huge bathroom, the bed was a bit hard but practical and in the morning we discovered our beautiful ocean view! That made up for the slightly dated furnishings. We got the Best of Barbados package so we enjoyed free breakfast every day at Lanterns which has a nice selection of decently prepared food and good service. The beach was clean and not too crowded so we always got a good spot. We saw mostly families so we felt safe to leave stuff on our lounges while we swam or stopped at the bar, though don’t make this a habit with all the beach vendors/drug dealers around (who pleasantly go away if you say no to everything). The grounds were lovely and well maintained. The staff was helpful in answering our questions and booking activities with our BoB discounts, thanks Dana! The resort includes a 2nd restaurant, a gym, salon, gift shop, taxis always waiting and a lunch truck parked outside on weekdays - all very convenient. We also really enjoyed the rum punch made by James at the pool bar and now make it at home! You don’t have to leave the resort because they offer a lot to do but while it is a pleasant place, it isn’t the most romantic for newlyweds (few perks, lots of kids). But the Gap is a very nearby and offers some romantic dining and nightlife. That said, we really did enjoy our stay and plan to bring friends back to the Bougainvillea for more adventures.

The Best of Barbados package was very useful to us and recognized everywhere. We had no trouble with our discount book coupons or Gourmet Dining Club savings card. Also plan ahead and convert some money or plan to loose some on the exchange for service. Do not put in extra thinking they will exchange it for you, they will take it as tip money.

Just Right

This resort was just right-not too large, not too small. Not overflowing with people nor a ghost town. My wife and I quickly settled into their vibe. Even on things that didn’t turn out right (like the full size bed-not queen), the overall vibe turned that disappointment into a minor issue. Customer service was excellent. We came in late that afternoon, after the deadline for ordering supplies for our kitchen, yet they still took our order and delivered the next day. This was the first resort where I felt right at home the entire time.

Grand kids loved it

Our Grand children loved going from the beach, to the water, to the pool and then back to the beach. The breakfast was included in our package but it wasn’t too good. The service was poor and it took a long time to get your food. We have been here before and they had a buffet for breakfast and that was better. One day my wife asked for decaf coffee. The waitress said she would have to make it and was back in no time. The next day we again asked for decaf and were told they don’t have decaf. Breakfast was the worst part of the trip but the rest of the resort was fine.

A great place for kids. Right on the beach and 3 different pools. Not to far to the Gap. A short cab ride. Nice restaurants at the Gap.

Exceptional Experience!

In spite of the flight delay which resulted in us losing almost two days of the short vacation the stay at Bougainvillea more than compensated. It was a WOW experience! From the physical environment, the food, the facilities, to the exceptional service - front desk, room service, kid’s club - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I am very pleased to have selected Bougainvillea and will make it my hotel of choice whenever I am in Barbados - especially when I’m travelling with children!

Best choice on the south Barbados

My companion and I were very pleased with Bougainvillea Beach resort. The hotel and its surroundings turned out to be exactly what we had expected. The hotel’s website was very helpful as well. Upon our arrival at Bougainvillea, we were pleasantly surprised by getting a room with the sea view. Although we had paid for a studio, we were given a delux-studio with a full bathtub at no additional charge; we were also given a restaurant gift card. The hotel was very clean, quiet (off-season) and the staff were courteous and helpful. The food was a little expensive; we would suggest getting coffee and bagels from a near by grocery store. The sea was very warm, but with constant high waves. There was a little kitchenette in the room; we would only use a microwave and a coffee-maker. It was nice to have a full-size fridge, so we would stock up on local beer and wine. If you like running, the best time for it is early morning. Early mornings could you find live crab on the beach. Our room was on the fifth floor (we did not notice elevators), so we had some exercise done. We would have coffee in the morning and wine at night on our balcony. The hotel has a very nicely equipped gym; there is a beauty salon as well. There are three pools at the resort. Most restaurants have good local food. We would recommend Pisces. We did not travel much through the island, but did go on a sailing boat. We also went to the capital Bridgetown. We had a really great time on Barbados!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

It is best getting to St. Lawrence Gap by walking along the beach in the day time and taking cabs at night. We rode a local bus one time, it was cheap, but there was no A/C on the bus. You can sign up for a sailing boat right on the beach, look out for captain Ron.

One of the Best of the South Coast

I’ve been going to Barbados for over 40 years and decided to try a new place. Bougainvillea was a tremendously pleasant surprise. from the time we were greeted getting out of the taxi from the airport to the time we sadly had to depart, the staff was nothing short of fantastic. The facilities and rooms were immaculate. We decided we wanted to do things, i.e. the ’zip-line’, went to the concierge and it was taken care of in no time. Anyone planning on going to this fantastic island would be remiss if they didn’t consider the Bougainvillea for there stay.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

There are new things to enjoy in Barbados. try the Aerial Trek (zip-line) it was fun and very safe. We had several young children in our group and they were well taken care of. Also for adults, the Mount Gay Rum Distillery is a must, but take a cab...you don’t want to drive after this visit.

Bad price / value

Meanwhile the installations and the service and location of this hotel are more or less ok (not more) its price/value is horribly bad, as far as the price of the rooms and above all the prices in the 2 restaurants are concerned. In every moment of your stay you have the bad feeling that your function as a tourist and guest is to provide profit to the owner. You feel only exploted. As a whole, a really unfriendly hotel.

Wish I Were There

This is a very nice resort with friendly people. It is not in busy Bridgetown, but Bridgetown is only about 6 miles or so away. My wife and I had a great time.

Good Hotel

Stayed here for 3 days and it was very relaxing. Right on to the beach with 2 very well maintained pools. Rooms were HUGE and very well maintained. The best part was the fully stocked kitchen. It was a great money saver. We would make breakfast every morning. Buy meals from the food carts outside at lunch and then take the bus to St. Lawrence Gap at night.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out Harrison caves and go swimming with the turtles.

Would have loved to stay longer

The Bougainvillea was delightful. The staff was always very courteous and helpful. When we wanted anything, like renting a dvd or having it taken out, they were very prompt. The beds were a bit harder than I expect these days when so many hotels have gone to the more luxurious mattresses, but that was minor. Going in the "off" season (during the summer) turned out great..the weather was great and while the resort was busy, it never felt crowded, either on the beach, in the pools, or in the restaurants. As with all resorts, they had an "orientation" that told you about activities and packages, but it was shorter and lower key than most -- much less pressure to sign up for stuff, but very helpful when we. I came with my husband and my two college-age daughters for a week, and we all had a great time -- we all were sad to leave. I would readily recommend the resort.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Buy food to eat breakfast or lunch at your room, restaurants are 2x more expensive than in the U.S. Don’t rent a car, most activities provide a shuttle.

Very Pleasant Hotel

We stayed at the Bougainvillea the 1st week in June. The hotel is very pleasant- directly on the beach with a nice pool. Our room had an ocean view. We had the Best of Barbados plan which included breakfast- we realized half way through that we could have room service for a nominal charge- so we ate on our balcony. The room is equipped with a kitchen- so we made our own coffee and drinks, and oftentimes had a light lunch on the beach. This was a significant cost savings. The hotel is close the GAP and Oistens.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

You should definitely go to Oistens on Friday night!!! For a romantic evening out with good food- go to Josephs in the GAP. We rented a car which was convenient. To save money- rent for a week and make your reservation in advance- its probably the same price as a 2-3 day rental at a higher rate. I recommend Bajan Car Rentals Ltd. They are very reputable and deliver to the hotel. Also- definitely go on the Catamaran Snorkeling Cruise and swim with the sea turtles. I recommend the Tiami.

Not impressed

ME& MY HUSBAND FOUND THE HOTEL STAFF WASN’T VERY FRIENDLY & HOUSEKEEPING DID NOT CHANGE MY SHEETS DURING MY 10 DAY SAY! I HAD TO CONSTANLY REQUEST TOWELS. DRINKS AT THE BAR WERE VERY EXPENSIVE & HAPPY HOUR SUCKED BIG TIME! TOO MANY PEOPLE SELLING DRUGS AND OTHER THINGS ON THE BEACH SO I COULDNT RELAX.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

THE ST. LAWRENCE GAP WAS FULL OF NICE & FUN BARS & CLUBS. GOOD MIX OF MUSIC & PEOPLE

Beautiful Hotel! Nice Vacation

We stayed 7 nts/8 days in Christ Church, Barbados at the Bougainvillea Resort. The resort is beautiful and the grounds are well manicured. The hotel staff arranged for a room upgrade for a small mishap that occurred in our original room. We were pleasantly surprised and pleased with the helpfullness and willingness of the staff to resolve our concerns. The island of Barbados is beautiful the view of the beach from the hotel jumps right off of a post card! My only critiques are: *The hotel caters to families (in room kitchenettes) so the pool area may be filled with splish splashing children all day *The hotel’s beach could be cleaner. In defense of the hotel, guests specifically cigarette smokers and beer drinkers dispose of their butts and bottle caps in the sand so we had to ignore this in order to enjoy the paradise. The hotel should address this issue in some way. I hate a dirty beach!!! The Food: Bouganvillea has 2 restaurants (1 high end and one moderate). Laterns on the Sea (moderate) serves breakfast/lunch/dinner and the food is good. However The Water’s Edge rest (high end) met and exceeded our expectations we both had lobster and the works and loved it!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Barbados is an expensive isle charging tax + 10%svc-chrg on everything. From 5/14-5/22 the $USD=2 ea $1BDS.Overall,Bajan food’s very good based mostly fish.Go to Oistins on Fri for a mash up outdoor party w/vendors selling dinners. You can go to Oistins everyday & get a good hot meal for $20BDs pp. Take a Reggae Van @ $1.50BDS pp or the bus to save cab fare which starts @ $20BDS. Great trip;could’ve stayed 2 more days;would recommend to anyone!

Paradise

My husband and I arrived at the Bougainvellea Beach Resort on Saturday, June 6th and were impressed immediately with the beautiful landscape and cleanliness of this Resort. The staff were very helpful as was the Expedia Customer Service Agent who came to explain all the activities available in Barbados. Our room was a suite with living room, very well equipped kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. The restaurants in the Resort are quite expensive so we availed ourselves to the small store a short distance from the Resort and prepared breakfast and lunch in our suite. The beach area is beautiful and can be enjoyed whether you enjoy the sun or are looking for a relaxing spot in the shade.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

One of the suggestions from our Expedia CS Agent was going to Plantation. This is a short distance from the Resort and is a very interesting array of dance and music on the island. The price includes a buffet dinner and all you can drink. The Rum Punch is very potent, so be careful!

Spend our Honeymoon there and loved it. Food at hotel is a bit pricey. Try the food vendors on the street to save some dollars and try the local eatables.

Nice Hotel A Little Too Far Away...

This was a very pretty, nicely maintained property. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The pools and beach were perfect. Unfortunately, the two on-site restaurants shut down at 9:30 PM and everything pretty much comes to a halt on the property. The nearest restaurants and night life is a US$15+ cab drive away. If you are coming to enjoy the pool and the beach and don’t care about shopping, restaurants and nightlife, this is the place for you. All the rooms have nice little kitchenettes, but if you are not staying for more than a week, you won’t likely use it because the grocery stores are too far away to get supplies to stock it. The best things about Barbados are the weather and the people. The are one of the nicest, politest and most respectful people we have ever met.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Oistens on Friday night was a true local experience. The St. Lawrence Gap was fun. Recommend the Ship’s Inn. Don’t eat at Aquapisces. Horrible food and poor service. The best souvenir shopping was actually at the airport. Took a nice, private island tour. Taxi drivers charge about US$30/hr. Can see most of the island in 5 hrs. El Tigre catamaran boat/snorkel tour was the highlight of the trip. Our excursion had only 10 people on a 60’ boat. Snorkeled with the turtles and by the sunken boats.

Great family winter escape

Excellent resort on the south coast (Maxwell Beach) with a fantastic beach. The employees were helpful and friendly. Rooms have full kitchens (studios have kitchenettes). Service in the two restaurants is not great and menu variety is somewhat limited (especially for vegetarians and others with special diets). Towels, umbrellas, and beach toys are provided. Would definitely stay there again.

The resort is extremely family friendly. Recommend eating breakfast and lunch in room to maximize beach and pool time and save a lot of money. Sun is extremely strong so bring lots of sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses.

Great Stay

My wife and I just returned from a two week stay at this hotel. Before going I read other reviews, all were good. The hotel was great, the room was very clean, and overlooked the very nice beach. The staff was very friendly. We will visit again in the future.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Eat away from the hotel. And take the buses around town. Lots of fun.

Excellent Vaca!

We rented a one BR suite and it was great! The facilities were excellent and grounds were well maintained. The staff was great and very accommodating. The only drawback was construction going on next to our wing of the hotel. We woke up at 8:30 every morning to the sound of jack hammers. I really can’t hold the hotel responsible seeing how there was construction going on everywhere on the island but I’d request a room away from any construction site next time.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Spend the extra $$ on a suite for the full kitchen. We planned on buying food there and making breakfast and lunch during the day and ended up saving a ton of $$ that way. Rent a Moke and drive around the coast lines. It’s the best way to get to know the island.
