The Wickaninnish Inn

Situated on a rocky outcropping in Tofino- on the West Coast of Vancouver Island- the Wickaninnish Inn is blessed with a fabulous panoramic view. The hotel stands between the Pacific Ocean- Chesterman beach and a forest of giant evergreens. The design of its two buildings was entrusted to several artists- including the celebrated wood carver Henry Nolla- with the aim of blending art- nature and culture. The rooms with their cedar wood paneling- stone fireplaces and big bay windows- offer grandiose views of the waves breaking on the shore. After a plant or marine-based treatment and an initiation to sea kayaking- you could even set off to see schools of whales just a few miles offshore.

Wickaninnish Inn August 2007
Very nice hotel with very pleasant staff. This is a spectacular location. However, our room had no air conditioning and was an uncomfortable 26C/79F, even though the slider to the porch was always open, the outside temps were between 16-18C and we had two fans. Very relaxing place but could use a pool.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
The Pointe Restaurant is incredible, but dont go if you are going to worry about what you are spending. Nice scotch and wine selection. Be sure to plan your activities ahead of arrival, particularly kayaking which is dependent upon the tides and in high demand. If you have young children who want to bike, bring their own bikes as small bike rentals are extremely limited. As of August 2007 the road from Nanaimo to the Tofino was under construction, causing delays.
