Very Comfortable

We enjoyed our night with the Vista Real. We found that the staff was sadly unaware of the Rotary Club Meeting held weekly at 7:00 am. We were late to the meeting because it was difficult to locate.

Not the best choice in Guatemala City

Beautiful, romantic, hotel. Great breakfast buffet. But...rooms with a view (trees block views of the city and volcanoes) are right over a very busy, noisy, highway. Our "garden view" room had a view of construction cranes (they’re building a high rise on the property) and a big tree. Some garden view rooms overlook beautiful waterfalls and real gardens. There’s nothing to do in the area. They have a shuttle but it ran only at night. So unless you have a car you’re stuck there. Pool was obviously unused - dirty, cold, jacuzzis were unheated. Overpriced for what we got.

Almost perfect

Beautiful hotel, helpful, friendly staff, and excellent price by American standards. I was disappointed by the pool- seemed like an afterthought, closed on a summer day and built over a highway, no food/drink service there anyway. I went for a sauna in the lovely gym...but it didn’t work. sigh. Everything else was lovely, though. Would be a great, relaxing place to unwind if this was a business trip.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The free shuttle to/from the airport will save you money, making the overall cost even cheaper.

Colonial style luxury

The Vista Real Guatemala is a beautiful colonial country house style hotel that makes you fell being back in the 18-19th century. The staff is extremely courteous and professional and everything is stylized to please the eye though you might need to enjoy older and heavier kind of furniture, thick curtains and glamorous candelabra. The restaurant serves also good food and the buffet breakfast offers some very nice options; overall it feels more like a business oriented resort and you will see few tourists there (at least in February). All in all a very pleasant stay

WOW!!!

What a great hotel, what a great country!!! This is my first time in Guatemala, and it will not be my last. There is no better way for a first time visitor than to stay at this wonderful hotel. The instalations are exquisite, the service of the staff oustanding, and the food scrumptious! Beds are a bit on the hard side, but after a long day of exploring the country its just what my body needed. They say that what makes a country are its people, and Guatemalans are the best Ambassadors. Where ever we went they made us feel really welcome in their country. Will definetely be back soon.

I visited with my wife and our 10 year old son. He enjoyed the country and this hotel as much as we did. The hotel offered so many different areas for exploring, and a great gym for him to excersice while watching cartoon network. He loved visitng Chichicastenango, watching a volcano spurt smoke, and riding a horse at beautiful city of Antigua. Great shopping of indigenous art & crafts at Chichicastenango.

Top of the line: clean, quiet, comfortable

I greatly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone who visits Guatemala City. Unlike some modern hotel bunkers that lack character and a unique identity, the Vista Real is integrated into the hillside, offers a spectacular view of a vulcano, and has the feel of a Spanish hacienda.

This hotel is beautiful!

Staying at the Hotel Vista Real was one of the highlights of our trip. Rooms were beautiful and the food, service, and friendliness of the staff outstanding. We highly recomend this hotel. It is about a 20 minute taxi ride to downtown.

Good Hotel

The room was excellente. The bar service was great, they were very friendly. The restaurant had a variety of foods which it make it pleasant to dine. I have a disable child and it was hard to get around because they only had stairs. I would have perfer if the hotel had a ramp. Some employees were helpful in trying to help me lift the wheelchair, put the majority were not. I had room services and it was excellent. The hotel overall was nice but it was not close to any stores to shop.

Did not stand up to the hype or the price - dirty tub

I was excited about staying here after seeing all of the other positive Expedia reviews, but was sadly disappointed. After a long bus ride from Panajachel, I was ready for a nice bubble bath. Unfortunately, the bathtub was dirty and there was a hair from a private body part that wasn’t mine. So, I settled for a shower with luke warm water. I ordered the sea bass from room service, and it and everything else on the plate was dry. The room decor seemed a bit outdated (too late 70ish/early 80ish). This hotel isn’t near anything; so, you have to pay the higher price to eat there or take the shuttle which was too busy when I arrived. The nicest part of this hotel was the lobby, courtyard, and the view of the volcano from the restaurant. They should have carried the Spanish decor throughout the rooms. I must also mention that the staff (receptionist, bellman, and restaurant hostess and waiters) were very friendly. Next time I will stay at a less expensive hotel near the Zona Viva.

Traveler's tip

There are some nicer hotels closer to the Viva Zona, and I’m sure their tubs are cleaner and they’re less expensive.

Pure Luxury!

The hotel was fabulous. When presidents come to visit Guatemala they stay at this hotel. There is a free breakfast and dinner (snacks) all which are included. Guests are also give a cell phone to use while there. Guests also receive one hour of free internet access each day. There is also a free shuttle to take you to and from the airport, a local artesian market, and a shopping mall daily.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Don’t use the travel agency within the hotel - it is overpriced. I used T&T and the prices were half of that of the hotel. I used this agency for a tour to Tikal, Antigua, and around the city of Guatemala. Tikal is a must see site.

Truly a wonderful experience...

From the beauty of the hotel design, architecture and grounds, to the comfort and decor of the room itself... it equals or exceeds in experience many much more exclusive and expensive hotels I have stayed at in Europe. And the staff was exceptional, and lucky for me all very fluent in english since my spanish is not the best.... and the food was also top rate...

Traveler's tip on local attractions

There is not truly many points of interest in Guatemala City... other than the flavor of the city itself.. but if you have the time, avail yourself of the help of the hotel business center to arrange tours of the area...

great hotel

the only thing that they have to improved is the shuttle to the malls or to the city, is dificult and expensive, the hotel is out of the way and if you want to buy something, you have to pay a taxi and they are expensive Q.70.00 per trip one way is an average of 10 dollars each way.

Great Hotel To Visit

Even if you are not staying at this hotel, it is a great place to visit, specially by it’s cuisine, not very vast menu, but great choices you can choose. I had 8 great days in this hotel, treated like if there were just one room, mine. Highly recommended.

would consider staying again

Very polite bellman. Check-in desk a little aloof. Did not receive much talked about champagne welcome cocktail. Over the top but pretty public spaces. Nice bathroom and amentities but jacuzzi didn’t work. Room was freezing cold, the thermostat was strictly decorative. Called twice and was told they were sending up a heater but never received one. Excellent airport transfer with a great driver. Wonderful room service. All staff exceptional except for front desk. Didn’t want to stay in a U.S.-owned chain but we could have since we noticed no difference.
