Excellent Hotel

The hotel was wonderful. The location across from the Nile was beautiful. The staff was helpful, the room was clean and the pool was a wonderful oasis for travelers during the hot summer.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Don’t pay for anything in Egypt without agreeing on a price before.

My Pyramid Trip

I wanted to see the Pyramids and I did. I stayed at the Conrad Hotel in Cairo. The room food and people were great. This is a good choice, close to the Pyramids and Cairo or Egyptian Museum, can walk there in 15 minutes to the Museum. Pretty good choice. Food is expensive but other than that is was great.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Walk straight south to the Cairo Museum about 15 minutes, watch the traffic and get a guide for the Pyramids.

Terrible location for sightseeing, mediocre service.

Booked this hotel b/c we got a good rate with breakfast over a weekend, but was not impressed. You can’t walk to anything substantial and there is so much traffic along the corniche that it took forever to get anywhere. A hotel taxi took us to a friend’s shop instead of taking us where we wanted to, which was annoying b/c the hotel taxis are about 4 times as expensive as the street taxis. Only one restaurant is open so if you want to eat, it’s buffet only. I went up to the pool by myself one afternoon and it was so awkward b/c of the men they have milling around that I left after an hour. They kept coming up and flirting with me or I would catch them staring and I was just wearing a normal bikini. They weren’t staring at the 2 other women with their husbands. The room was nice, not 4 or 5 star though. Our tub had a ring around it so I don’t think it has been cleaned for a long time and that’s just gross considering they come in twice a day. The prices they charge for the internet are atrocious! I brought my laptop so I could check my work email, thinking it was free since it’s a 4 star hotel. It cost nearly $25 for 15 minutes and about $35 maybe for 24 hours b/c the internet is outsourced. However, if you complain you can use one of the 2 computers on the executive floors for free. Overall, the hotel lacked a personality and unless you’re coming for business at a place nearby, stay somewhere else. We went to the Marriott and realized how much the Conrad blows.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Go see the Sufi dancers / whirling dervishes! Free shows on Wed. and Sat. nights near Khan al Khalili. Definitely get there an hour early if you want good seats b/c it gets packed at show time and is well worth the wait.
