Excellent Location

This hotel is centrally located in Florence. It is only a few blocks from the Duomo Cathedral and a number of musuems. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. Finally, this is one of the few hotels in Italy where scrambled eggs and bacon are part of the buffet breakfast.

Not impressed, but great location

The location of the hotel is excellent, and the facilities are adequate for the most part. On the other hand, front desk service was irregular, ranging from downright unhelpful to moderately nice. During winter, they turn off the cooling in the air conditioning, which means the rooms get uncomfortably warm eventually. Unfortunately, the hot water pressure in the shower wasn’t even high enough to keep the shower head on. Internet access is not free, and you don’t get to use your own equipment; you use their laptop (just one) at the bar.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

A block away from the Duomo, two blocks away from the Palazzo Vecchio, and within half an hour’s walk from just about everything you’d want to see in Florence.

Great location, helpful front desk

Hotel was in great location just 1-2 blocks away from the museums, river, Duomo, shopping, etc. Staff was very helpful in arranging dinners, lunches, taxis, and drivers. Good breakfast buffet (free) Bathrooms a bit small but certainly doable Internet service not free, and sporadic All in all would highly recommend this hotel!

Great Location, Front Desk staff needs improvement

The best thing about this hotel is the location. it’s close to the Dome, Piazza della Signoria and Piazza Republica. Breakfast was nice. They have a computer you can use for internet but have to pay. The bad thing about this hotel is the staff. The breakfast staff was great but the front desk was not friendly at all. When we checked-in, we did not feel welcome. The front desk clerk spoke to the bellman the whole time he was checking us in. He talked to us twice and that’s to sign-in and to tell us the bellman would show us to our room. One of them did set up a tour for us and they called a taxi for us during check out. But overall, service needs improvement.

great hotel

very nice, clean and quiet hotel. Large room/we had 3 adults in 2 beds + 1 side-bed/large bathroom and quiet upper 4th floor room. Excellent breakfast included. Great location just a few blocks from the Duomo. Highly recommend but a bit pricey.

Best Location

The location, on a busy walk street in the middle of everything, makes this hotel a winner for me. Our room, although small, was at the back of the hotel and thus avoided the sometimes joyous noise of the street at night. Easy walk to all sights, many shops and excellent restaurants.

Location is good...that’s about it.

My stay at the Calzaiuoli was a disappointment. The location is great but that’s about it. None of the check-in receptionists even smiled. They also never looked at you when talking to you. It’s like they don’t even want to acknowledge you as a guest. I felt like I was talking to a robot. I can handle that...I’ve seen my fair share of "service-oriented" receptionists. The room is small, that is fine...most European hotels have small rooms....but the bathroom is absolutely tiny. In my 20 years of travel, this has to be the smallest bathroom i have ever been in...it beats even the Japanese hotels’ bathrooms. We had to climb over the toilet to get to the shower. I’m not kidding. The thing with tiny bathrooms, it is very hard for the chamber maids to clean the bathroom well. It’s not their fault, its just had to maneuver in there! Unfriendly receptionist and tiny bathroom are bearable. What really upset me was that the in-room safe didn’t work (out of battery) and also the lightbulb on the desk was burnt out. The worst is, the fee-based wi-fi internet connection is very buggy! You can log on for a while, then get disconnected. It happened repeatedly! I was going to call the front desk about all these problems...but with the ’great service’ i got checking in and when asking for directions, i decided it wasn’t worth it.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

There is a mini-mart around the corner...from the front door, turn left and turn left again. Get bottle water and snacks there.

Great location

This hotel is in the best location. Our room was a little small, but very clean. The staff was wonderfully helpful, and the breakfast was good. I walk with a cane, and was able to walk to many sites from the hotel. Taxi’s came within minutes, when called. I would stay there again, and recommend to my friends.

Superb downtown location

We were given a corner room overlooking the two main streets. The staff was consistently gracious and attentive. Nothing was overlooked. The location is superb. As in superb plus. --- except --- the streets are stone, the buildings are stone, and these are walking streets. Lots of noise. So we had difficulty sleeping if we kept the windows open for ventilation, or had difficulty sleeping if the windows were shut and the room got warmer and warmer and warmer until we were sweating, and had to get up and open the windows for awhile. The air conditioner was wisely shut off (February) but the hotel was kept much warmer than we are used to.

Great hotel in the heart of Florence

We just got home from a 7 day trip to Florence, and we stayed at the Calzaiuoli Hotel. This hotel has one of the best locations in Florence. It’s within walking distance to all of the main sites. There is great shopping and good restaurants nearby -- and don’t forget to check out the gelato shops. :) The staff was professional and courteous. They spoke good English and were very helpful in arranging tours, etc. The rooms are a little small, but that’s typical with hotels in Europe. They were quiet, clean and well maintained. Breakfast was great -- there was a good selection of both cold and hot food. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to others and will stay here again if I return to Florence.

Great Location

Stayed in hotel for 5 days and had great time. Can’t ask for a better location. Everything is a 5 min walk. Had a great view of the Duomo from our room. Staff was nice but could be better. Overall I would stay here again.

OK Hotel, but for the price...

As with many hotels in Europe you pay more tahn you get, but at least this hotel gives you a good location, a clean room, and a good place to sleep. It should be considered a good place to rest at night, that’s it. JF

Excellent location on main street in Florence

We were upgraded to a suite after checking in to nonsmoking room and receiving smoking room. Had an excellant view with windows opening out into main walking area in Florence. Bathroom was nicely sized, but had no shower door or curtain to prevent water from getting on to floor. Breakfast was so busy that you had to wait for a table and replenishment of the food. After the first day, we decided to skip their breakfast and grab something elsewhere.

Great location and quiet too!

This is a walking city. You can see everything on foot (flats or wedge heels recommended for the ladies). Much that you will want to see is located on the n. side of the Arno-river that runs through it. This hotel is situated near the Piazza della Rupubblica which is just about in the middle of everywhere you need to go. We had a nice sized, clean, comfortable and quiet room in the back. Nice staff. Tip: Call ahead for ticket reservations for museums such as the Uffizzi or Museo Nazional-you don’t want to wait in those lines. The hotel staff will help you with this. Also, don’t miss the outdoor market located the Mercato Centrale, just n. of San Lorenzo.

Perfect Location

The perfect location for visiting the Duomo, Uffizi, Baghello and most other Florence sites. It is on a pedestrian-only street with lots of shopping and other attractions. Delivery trucks are allowed in the morning, but the double-pane windows did a good job of blocking the noise. Breakfast and service were very good. I liked the high ceilings in the rooms, it made them seem larger.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out the maze of side streets off Calzaiuoli. Lots of shops, restaurants and interesting architecture.

Good hotel in good location near main attractions and shopping.

I don’t have any complaints about this hotel. Room was a very nice size with excellent air conditioning (the outside temperature was hot while we were there). We were on the 4th floor facing the Duomo and we had a good view of its dome. Front desk was courteous. Room was clean. Breakfast was ok. If you like the little things such as chocolates on your pillow at night, they did not do this. The hotel is a block from Piazza Repubblica and just a few short blocks to the Duomo. Good location as well as safe since it was well lit and central.

Traveler's tip on dining

Piazza Repubblica - go to Pazkowski’s for breakfast pastries. Away from the main piazzas and across the river we had a wonderful dinner with excellent steak at Trattoria Celestino. The service here was excellent also.

Great stay for first time in florence

My friend and I had a great stay here for our first trip to Florence. The location was excellent...two blocks from the Duomo and really in a central location to most hot tourist spots. We were able to book a day trip to Pisa through the hotel very easily, which was helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay there again.
