Good downtown hotel

For living near the touristy spots in Mumbai, this is a decent hotel. Service is good and hotel staff is very helpful. Recommended.

Efficient business hotel

I had chosen the President because of two reasons - one because of its proximity to where I had a meeting and price points. I found that the taj president is a very efficient business hotel. It has the right amount of attention that you would like in a hotel. Generally i have found that taj hotels tend to over-wait on you. What i mean is that you would have a man or lady with a plastic smile and stiff namaskar at every pillar and around every corner of the house. The rooms were quietly comfortable, clean and practical. The small touches of a fruit basket, good quality toiletries made the stay very pleasant. The breakfast was well spread out with a selection that would cater to almost all tastes. Overall I found Taj to be excellent value for money and its unobtrusive service and would definitely recommend it.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Do not order the limo from the hotel to pick you up from the airport. It would be far cheaper to order a limo from a local travel agent a day before. The price for the limo from the hotel for a airport pickup is more than the day charge for a limo with chauffeur for a complete day (8hrs).

Nice place, but check your bill twice

Nice hotel with great location (minutes away from Colaba, Gateway to India, etc.). Rooms were tastefully furnished, very clean & modern. The hotel restaurants, while pricey, serve excellent food. Breakfast buffet is very complete (amazing bread!) and staff was friendly throughout. Big letdown at the checkout as lots of people in our group of 15 had some extra item on their bill (e.g. overcharged for breakfast buffet that was supposed to be included, etc.). Front desk somewhat grudingly removed an incorrect $30 charge for two breakfast buffets from my bill.

Good but signs of being dated

Great for a short stay and the service levels are incredible. Food quality (ordered room service) is exceptional even late at night. However the television channels and quality of reception are so-so and due to ongoing construction there is some noise to contend with. The plastic strips on the shower door were also peeling which was a big surprise in a hotel of this class. First class response by the hotel once I mentioned this issues.

Great Value 5 Star

My wife and i stayed at the President on a recent trip and were very pleased with the stay. As a once-local Bombayite, i have often eaten at the restaurants but never spent a night at the hotel. Like all Taj-run hotels, the level of service was excellent and almost faultless - everyone from the check-in desk, to the bellboys, to the room service staff were incredibly polite and helpful. The tighter security levels, a necessary new reality, was somewhat reassuring and never too intrusive or annoying. The room service food was excellent, although we were disappointed that they did not offer an "all inclusive" English or American Breakfast. In addition, there was some work going on in the hotel, although they kept any noise and disturbance down to the minimum. While the recently refurbished room was well decorated with all the appropriate bells & whistles, we would have preferred just a bit more space. Overall, though, we thought it was a great value 5 star hotel and would go back to stay.

Very good choice in Mumbai

Everything about this hotel was very desirable. The rooms were very comfortable and modern. The shower was excellent. And we ordered room service at 2.30am when we got to the hotel. I have to say that was the best meal we had in Mumbai! Fantastic food! Overall a great value for Mumbai, which has become so expensive lately.

Traveler's tip on dining

Excellent meal...I would normally never go out of my way to refer someone to room service, but their meal was just amazing! We ordered Indian, chinese, and their menu was so extensive!

Best 5 star for the price

They’ve just renovated the top floors so it’s definitely worth paying the extra to get upgraded to exec floor. Really nice rooms with views over the ocean. Good restaurants and the new Cocktail bar makes unreal drinks (but pretty expensive).

Great Hotel

Everything was perfect. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great restaurants. Small but nice gym. Only downside was there wasn’t much in the way of nightlife in the immediate area but it was only a short taxi ride to most anything you’d want.

Traveler's tip on dining

Hotel had an Indian, a Thai and an Italian restaurant and a sweet shop. Plan on having a least a few meals in the hote.

Five star plus at 3-4 star prices prevailing in Bombay

This hotel has had a facelift. I stayed there for 90 days in 1983, and it has three facelifts since. Completely redone now, and a pleasant stay. I extended my stay by a day, as you know.

One of the best Taj Hotel...

Staff very nice, whether at reception, concierge, beauty parlour as well as staff in restaurants. Extremely caring and attention to details, very good food. Stayed at the Taj Mahal (Colaba) previously but nothing compared to the President, latter definitely better. In brief, best value for money.

Traveler's tip on dining

Very good coffee shop, breakfast, Konkan resto for Indian food, best Thai resto in India... and the Winkitini!

Make sure you get the renovated rooms!

I’ve stayed at this hotel twice in the last 6 months. The first time i loved it, great room, service, etc. This time I booked the lowest class of room and got put in one of their old unrenovated rooms. While Taj’s service is impeccable and it had all the amenities (32 inch LCD, Forest Essentials bathroom products, even free wine!), the room was clearly old and badly needed to be refurbished. The bathroom was excellent but if you’re paying that much money, make sure the hotel books you on one of the new rooms. Makes the entire experience SO much better!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask the jotel for rooms on Floors 3 to 8 where the New Deluxe Rooms are or on Floors 14 to 16 where new Deluxe Premium rooms are.

Great Location

A great hotel, very centrally located, within walking distance from the shops and Gate of India. Although service in main cafeteria was a little slow, but the food and overall experience at this beautiful hotel was very recommendable.

Taj President vs Taj Land’s End

Had just checked out of Tja Land’s End to the other side into Taj President assuming that the service and standard would be the same par excellence as was at Land’s End. Was disappointed. Though the staff is very nice and curteous there is only so much they can do with the facility at hand. It was Anticlimatic to say the least. Needs a complete over hauling of the rooms and well the whole place.
